After owning the iPad, gen 2, I felt i needed the smaller version for ease of portability. The iPad Mini 3 fit the bill perfectly. I looked at other mini pads but the 8 inch size for me was the best combination of screen size and portability. The new fingerprint ID is really convenient and is, I believe, the wave of the future for all mobile devices for ease of access and upgraded security. Don't forget to put some type of identifying number to call if lost, possibly as the screen saver. I was somewhat irritated with apple for the minor upgrade to the mini while the iPad got a true upgrade for the same upgrade price of $100. However, when BB put on sale it made the choice slightly easier. Functionality, of the mini is excellent, with the new integration aspects of iOS 8 that allow me to share so much with my other mobile devices, including reading a book with my mini then picking up where I left off with my iPhone when my mini is not around. While clunky, you can have a mini and a droid phone with some integration, but you have to be a geek level savant to really share. I have some friends that have learned to live in both cultures, apple and droid. Overall, i am really enjoying my mini and am able to use it more than the regular pad while out and about.

ipad has worked well for my sons school work. Small enough but not to large. Definitely buy a case. It has been dropped several times with case, and still works great.

For an ipad, I think a storage of 32gb or higher is necessary. I got this in a flash sale. I know a new generation is coming but I'm satisfied with this one.

I bought this iPad mini to replace my iPad mini 2 16GB that we are giving to our daughter and we wanted more storage. Like the iPad mini 2, this is a fantastic product and we are very happy with it. In hindsight, we probably should have purchased the 128GB as we have several movies from Disney already downloaded and will probably get more.

bought it for wife as mohters day gift. there is not much difference between this and ipad mini 2 other than finger print scanner. So, if you are on a budget,,get mini2...otherwise this will help you earn some bonus points with whoever you purchasing it for.

this is exactly the same thing as the ipad mini 2, only difference is the Fingerprint and the Gold color on the mini 3, if you don't care about this two things, save yourself $100 and get a mini 2.
