He is mostly just into watching videos right now and playing a few games and he loves it because the screen isn't tiny. Overall a great purchase he is satisfied so we are as well.

First was either a Nook or a Fire, but neither runs the apps my wife has accumulated over time. The iPad Mini is a little heavier than the other reader, but runs everything on the iPhone. Now my wife is using it for everything she does on her phone except make calls. A little pricey, but excellent in every way.
