Great Travel Laptop, Not For Performance

I primarily purchased this laptop as a travel laptop. Since I travel quite a bit and have to carry both my work and personal laptops, I wanted something more portable. At 2 lbs, this is definitely the best, lightest full-functioning computer for the Apple enthusiast. However, the processing power is not as great as an i5, let alone an i7, so I will be keeping my heavier personal laptop for more rigorous tasks. For basic needs, such as browsing, checking e-mail, etc., this laptop works just fine. I am a gamer and though I have not yet gamed on this laptop, I doubt it will perform as well as my heavier personal laptop. The other limiting factor is the absence of ports and disk drives, which also hinders any gaming ability. The most important drive to me was the SD card slot, which this does not have. If you want any USB functionality, you have to purchase a USB-C to USB adapter. In addition to that, I had to purchase a USB SD card reader to use with this laptop. Because of the lack of ports, there are additional costs to using this laptop if you want to use USB ports at all. I would still recommend this laptop as a good travel laptop, as it is light (even lighter than the MacBook Air) and can perform all the basic functions that most users would want.

I was slightly skeptical buying the new macbook gold, but it has exceeded my expectations so far. The screen is gorgeous, the processor is fast for what its designed for. It is not built for gaming for high power processing programs. USB C is little inconvenient but thats where the future is.

The Macbook with 12in. display fits my needs to a tee. I bought it on sale for $999.00 and the lowest price I found. With the 256GB Flash Storage, the unit speeds through tasks. Even though this has the "slower" mobile processor, it still speeds through processes while having a great battery life. I recently purchased the $79 media (usb-a, hdmi, usb-c charging port) dongle that plugs into the usb-c port on the Macbook using my Best Buy points/cash. All in all, the unit is very light, quick, has a great battery life and seems very sturdy for being extremely slim. It is a great addition to my Apple product family and I highly recommend it

I would like to say that this was a tough decision to make considering the tradeoffs versus a MBA. The size is great, lightweight, screen is beautiful, the keyboard is something to get used to, and wireless capability. The downside would be the one and only USB-C port and the 480p quality FT cam. So far I've gotten used to it, not using this laptop to charge anything. I had to buy a USB-C hub to connect it to the macbook and charge the laptop as well as use the other ports on the hub. If you plan to use itunes and sync with this laptop, you will need to sync it with the cable, once. Battery life varies greatly depending on what apps you're running so be aware of the 5-10hr battery life window. Streaming takes up most of the battery life and cuts it in half from my experience. FT cam could've been at least 720p for the price but apple didn't want to just make this device "great" right away. As a college student, this would be ideal for day to day use. Just be wary of the battery life and the programs you use. Ideally, get an adaptor if you wish to make this your everyday laptop, you never know when you'll get an micro/SD/USB situation that can't be handled wirelessly right away.

I can't believe Apple can make a fully-functional computer this thin and small. It's really light too. The screen is fantastic, and I really like the keyboard. Battery life is very good. I thought having a single USB-C port might be a hassle, but we bought the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport dongle with pass-through USB-C power, HDMI, and USB. It works very well. A great Macbook at a really great price!

Except for not having a USB port and having to spend $79 to buy the adapter for the USB which is also for firewire and HDMI its a really cool MAC. Very light and really nice screen. Works well so far. Space Gray is a really nice color different from the other MACs.

So this is a really cool Macbook. I love the gold color and the new type of keyboard takes some getting used to but overall I now prefer this keyboard to my wife's macbook Pro. The battery lasts about 1 day. If you do a lot on your mac the battery drains really fast so I am dissapointed with that. I guess since its low powered, if you do much with it the book has to use all of its processing power and that really drains the battery. The size is not bad at all. I really wanted the keyboard and track pad features combined with the gold color on a 13 inch macbook pro but that does not exist. So I was nervous about the 12 inch screen. It hasn't been an issue and I'm used to working on dual 27in monitors. the C-usb plug is the other weird/annoying thing. You have have to a usb adapter for it, which apple will gladly sell you for $25 or so. I bought the single usb and plug a port into it. I should have bought the $75 adapter that has usb, HDMI, and I think VGA. The super thinness of the book is cool but at the same time its so slim that it's not sturdy enough to handle you moving a hand on or off it. With my 13in MacBook Pro, it has more weight so you can move your hands around without having the computer sway and move around. Overall I like it. It fills my need which was to replace my aging iPad 2 with something I could take to class, and a keyboard. If you live in a super wifi world, which I do, you still need NAS storage and bluetooth everything because you don't have the ports or the space for much.

I was a bit hesitant getting a macbook because of the price tag. But picked it up because my tablet broke, and the macbook was on sale. Screen resolution is great, and clear. Keyboard in my opinion is awesome. Key presses are shallow but responsive, and quiet (perfect for taking notes in class without making too much noise.) It's so light, I take it everywhere with me and I often forget it's on me. The only downside is it has only one USB-C port. You'll have to buy an adapter if you want to use a standard thumb drive (although those are not too expensive if you do some searching.)

I bought the Gold Macbook and it looks like a piece of art. I use it for email, web browsing, word processing and videos. The speed is much better than I expected and it replaced my Macbook Air --non Retina which I really liked--but my new Macbook is so light and versatile and fast with beautiful graphics. There may be some PC's that come remotely-only remotely close to the sleekness of the Macbook--but remember, they are still a PC. The new Macbook is the REAL deal.

Super portable lightweight laptop, excellent for daily commute or travel. I now leave my heavy macbook pro 15" at home. My only criticism is a big one, hence the 4 star review, which is why did apple only provide one USB C port instead of two? This makes it much harder to charge when using the one and only usb-c port with other adaptors. The 12" screen size seems perfect no issues there, I was concerned at first about it not being 13" thinking that was the sweet spot. I'm currently running the El Capitan Public Beta OS and it has definitely improved performance.

Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. The sleek and lightweight design is beautiful. The hard aluminum body adds class and elegance. The screen resolution is amazing. The screen dimensions are executed perfectly to maximize visibility with a minimalist approach. The only negative, if it can be called that, is that the inlayed keypad can take some getting used to. The single port has not been an issue for me, although I was concerned about it before my purchase. Purchase the adaptor and you're good. Last point to mention is the great batter life.

Apple's new 12" Macbook strikes the perfect balance in what I was looking for in a new laptop. I am a grad student and needed a new computer that was highly mobile and powerful enough to get my work done in an efficient manner. I run some applications that are farily system intensive at times, but not total resource hogs (I would be hesitant to rely on the Macbook if my primary work was rendering HD video all the time). The new key design takes a little getting used to at first, but ultimately I find it to be pleasurable and it hasn't caused me problems. Where the new Macbook really shines is in the overall form factor. At just 2 lbs. you can put this in your backpack, briefcase, etc. and barely know it's there. We have a 13" Retina Macbook Pro in our house as well and it feel incredibly heavy by comparison. The fanless Macbook is quiet, light, and many of the physical barriers between you and your work begin to disappear when using it. A solid buy.

I purchased this Mac Book for my granddaughter for doing her school assignments at home. Everything about this Mac Book is great, from it's easy setup and use to the the weight and size. What swayed me in the direction of the Mac Book was the technical assistance we received from the Apple representative at Best Buy. Thank you!

Great design and extremely lightweight. Typical apple craftsmanship. Superb screen. Very portable. I think it is bit slower than my regular Macbook Air but only marginally so. Miss regular USB connection. Has only one port. which is USB C and you will need to buy adapters to use any attachment/disc drive etc. But Still love it
