Small laptop but has all capability of my MacBook Pro. The one thing I wasn't crazy about is the trackpad doesn't click but thats really just a personal pref.

The Macbook is thin and light, maybe too much so. The build quality is good, but the lack of ports is concerning once you decide to hook it to other devices. This great for students, but not for business if you want to connect a monitor, ethernet, mouse, and/or keyboard

I recently purchased the MacBook 12" gold 256gb, and for the most part I was very pleased. My prior computer was the MacBook pro with Retina display and I traded some computing power for portability and style, however it wasn't that vast of a difference. Overall good buy.

Great ultra portable macbook with higher resolution screen than the macbook air 13 inch, only wish it had more than 1 port or better accessories from Apple.

I'll start by saying that I'm very happy with my MacBook, I wanted a Mac and didn't have the budget to get my dream MacBook Pro, but I throughly researched the MacBook and was very aware of the limitations I may face. I am an AV professional and tend to push the MacBook to it's limits, but I know that when I hit them it's more an indication of my lack of budget than a shortcoming of the MacBook. I got mine on a great sale so I don't feel I overpaid for what I got. In time I will upgrade to a full blown MacBook Pro, but until then I will be very happy with this.

I wouldn't recommend you buy as an open box if you're looking for a fresh product. It was 'geek-squad certified,' but it still had the previous owners information. I had to reset the whole thing. Outside of that, it's a great laptop. Light and efficient.

The idea of this machine isn't power, it's maximum portability with an excellent screen and decent performance. I can deal with one port, slower processor and bad web cam, everything else is great with the exception of the keyboard. I need to be able to type fluently on this device and the keyboard is just so shallow that I would miss keystroke after keystroke. Deal breaker. Hopefully v2 or v3 addresses this, but Apple's quest for thinness is taking them in a different direction.

    Excellent Machine...online reviewer as harsh

So, I had my eyes set on the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. The capabilities of the stylus and keyboard seemed that Microsoft had gotten things right. Unfortunately, after 6 Surface Pro 4's with hardware issues, I gave up and returned to a Mac. When I was looking for a new machine, I was intrigued at the size and the screen on the 12" Macbook. I did my research and the online reviews all seemed to be really harsh stating that the computer was under powered and overpriced. They would criticize that it only had one port. This is not an issue for me since I live in the cloud. Then at Apple, they would say that this was for those that just wanted to surf the web and do menial tasks. I argued that I would get a $250 Chromebook if that was the case. I knew I did not want another Macbook Pro because I wanted something small and lightweight. I liked the capabilities of the Air, but the screen was not a retina. So, I bit the bullet and gave the 12" Macbook a try. To my surprise, this was a very capable device. While I am not cutting the latest version of StarWars in Final Cut Pro, this device can handle video editing quite easily. I use Photoshop daily and use VMware Fusion for running Windows and Linux. I also use it with MatLab and code in Swift. Sure, it is not a Macbook Pro, but I have an iMac and PC for the big stuff. Honestly, those who had reviewed this device seemed to have expectations that would not be satisfied. I am a power user and I use different technologies depending on the task. In my opinion, I think most online reviewers can be out of touch making judgements without understanding the intended user. So, who is this computer for? I would say anyone. It is a great machine with some nice specs. The Core-M in this device shows that with the right OS, it can function quite well. It has an amazing screen and the 8GB/256GB is great. The Macbook is small and great for travel and is my driver for business and travel. If you keep an eye out, you can find this device around 1099-1149. While not the cheapest computer, you will get your money out of it when you upgrade. Apple's keep their value. If you are looking seriously at this machine, I would recommend spending some time at the store playing with it. While not for everyone, this Macbook is a really great machine and it can do much more than what the press and super geeks think is acceptable.
