Best looking piece of hardware Apple has made.

The new MacBook is an impressive laptop and an impressive piece of hardware. I have been looking forward to getting one ever since it was announced a month ago. This little computer is plain impressive. It is super quick even with the base configuration. The display is to die for and the 12" screen seems larger than it is. That may be due to the fact that the display is closer to the cover glass and the bezels have been reduced dramatically. I still can't get over how thin and light this new MacBook is! It is the perfect laptop for a student in my opinion. The Space Grey color option looks SO gorgeous in person! It really complements the iPhone 6 Plus well. I'm very impressed with the new MacBook, even with some of its compromises.

This Mac exceeds my expectations. The retina display is absolutely gorgeous. The battery performs very well, easily giving you a full day of heavy usage without a problem. I am particularly impressed with the speaker quality on videos and movies. Truly awesome sound! Overall, another fantastic product from Apple.

It's been a few days since the purchase, and I have to report I am completely thrilled with the Macbook. I typically use Mail, Safari (with lots of tabs), Photos and iTunes. All open super fast and no lag whatsoever when surfing, listening to music/videos or navigating the OS. Acts just like my maxed out 2015 iMac 5k for these tasks. This is probably the best tech purchase I have made since my first iPhone purchase!

    Amazing Space Gray Macbook

I love my new Macbook, is very thin and light, I went for the space gray color. Before I bought it I watched a lot of videos and reviews about this Macbook on youtube and I was concerned about the processor speed that everyone was talking about, but in real world this Macbook runs perfect for my daily activities like surfing web, checkin email, working on MS Office suite and no issues about slowing down, etc. and for the price (999) I'm very happy with it. Also I purchased the adapter for working as a desktop.I would recommend this Macbook to everyone excepto for video editing and that stuff...

Firstly, I am not an apple fanboy. I am not one of those people who rate every apple product 5 stars simply because it is an apple product. That being said, I LOVE THIS LAPTOP. I won't go into details because other reviews here have done just that. I will just note that it is a bit overpriced for its specs but it is arguably the best looking laptop on the market. If you are looking for something lightweight, this would be perfect. If you are looking for a gaming laptop, look elsewhere.

** DO NOT BUY THIS MacBook **

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

There are MANY serious problems with this MacBook (MB). I'm only going to list a FEW. 1. Apple bet the farm on the ** SINGLE ** (as in ONLY) USB-C port architecture which ALL OTHER ports / adapters MUST be connected. This means there is a single point of failure for the ENTIRE MB! 2. To use ANY external device you MUST use either the $80 overpriced Apple AV multi-port (Apple 3 port hub) and plug it into the USB-C port. The problem is the USB-A line of the Apple 3 port hub does NOT get enough power to power ALL devices. For example, $80 overpriced USB-A SuperDrive does NOT work! Not enough power. Also, some of my external HDDs did NOT work. 3. To solve the power problem with the Apple 3-port hub, you MUST ALSO buy ANOTHER POWERED USB hub to plug into the device so you can run external devices. This means you MUST have a hub plugged into a POWERED (with AC Adapter!) hub. When you are done, you have wires and hubs and lines everywhere which defeats the purpose of a portable device! 3. Apple does NOT sell a 3 port hub with DVI out. This means if you have a DVI monitor you MUST ALSO buy a HDMI to DVI cable and you MUST buy the 3 port hub with HDMI as you have no other choice other than the Apple VGA 3 port hub. Why would Apple make a VGA hub and an HDMI hub but NOT a hub with a DVI port? Why use a RETINA (!!!) based display unit with a VGA out? Come on Apple!!! Oh and let me accent that this generic hub cost $80. 4. Since the unit doesn't include a CD / DVD drive you must buy one. I bought the Apple "SuperDrive" which (see my other review) does NOT work plugged into the Apple 3 port hub! Amazing but true. Not enough power. Incompatible. This FORCES you to buy ANOTHER Apple USB-A / USB-C adapter for $19. Apple should bundle BOTH adapters with the unit at NO extra cost OR they should sell them at a reduced price. Instead they force you to buy an $19 adapter, a $80 hub ** AND ** a $80 SuperDrive JUST to run BASIC tasks. And in the end, you CANNOT get the SuperDrive to work simultaneously with other devices like an external HDD as the 3 port hub only has ONE USB-A port. 5. To solve the single USB-A port problem with the $80 Apple hub, you must buy a NON-Apple (they don't make one) AC POWERED 4 port USB-A hub for MORE money. In the end, NOT ALL devices worked. This means you CANNOT get certain HDD's to pull enough power from the 3 port hub OR the 4 port hub plugged into the Apple 3 port hub. For example I could NOT get my USB-A Logitech headphones to work in ANY combination of ports as the USB-C line does NOT push enough power. I also could NOT get certain external HDD's to run even though they work perfectly with my 2008 MacBook and my 2009 iMac. ** Be prepared to throw out HDD's, Headphones, old Apple AC Adapters, Apple SuperDrives and other devices as they just do NOT work with this unit. 6. Though the Retina Screen, weight and design are great the keyboard stinks. It has a VERY long learning curve and even after a few weeks I was still making 35% more typing errors. 7. Cost. Add $1,300 to $80 (SuperDrive) to $80 (Apply hub) to $19 (Apple hub) to $250 (AppleCare) to $50 (for various car adapters, USB-A/USB-C plugs, etc.) to $30 (skin cover) and you will see the VERY high cost of ownership. Be prepared to pay an EXTRA $400 ON TOP OF THE $1,300 base price! In the end, this will be AT LEAST a $1,700 device and you STILL will NOT be able to use ALL of your legacy devices with it. ** Summary ** - Apple placed ALL bets on a SINGLE USB-C port and lost. This unit is a pain in the rear to use and is incompatible with MANY devices. Heck, it's even incompatible with Apple's OWN devices (Like the Apple SuperDrive). Do NOT buy this unit as it is VERY disappointing. I just sent mine back. Don't make the same mistake as me. Don't buy this unit.

Many people who are quick to write off the new Macbook point to its Core M processor and inclusion of a single USB-C port, but in reality, it's similar to when Apple first introduced the Macbook Air in 2008 and people quickly criticized the device for being simply an overpriced web browser. Here we are almost ten years later and it's their most popular laptop. I bought the Macbook because, as a grad student, I didn't need anything too powerful and heavy like a Pro, but I wanted the retina display which is still lacking in the Air series. I've had the laptop for nearly three months and I absolutely love it! The keyboard took getting use to, but the omission of all ports wasn't that bad since virtually everything these days has a wireless option. My only real issue with the product is battery life. When Apple made the announcement and showed just how small the motherboard was which allowed them to fill all the extra space with batteries, I assumed it would be on par with the 13' Macbook Air, but it's actually closer to the 13' Macbook Pro. It gets me through a full day, barely, with a few tabs open in the browser and a word document. I would definitely not recommend this for anyone who engages in extensive photo/video editing, gaming, and heavy multi-tasking. It's not meant for you! At its current price, it's quite the deal.

    Awesome Computer

I got my new macbook about 6 hours, and let me just say, I am LOVING it. I'd been wanting a new laptop for a while, and after hours of research I decided that this babe would suit my needs perfectly. I got just about everything I expected out of this wonder of a laptop. The packaging was simple and elegant in total apple form, and the box contained the computer, the usb-c cable and wall port, and the apple papers. The laptop itself booted up fast and the setup went by like a breeze, leaving me with a beautiful laptop that has not failed to impress. It's speedy and the graphics are amazing, and as much as I was expecting to hate the keyboard at first, it's actually really nice. The action isn't very high, but you get used to it fast and it responds to your touch really well. The trackpad is also really cool. I like the force touch a lot, and I would have no idea that the glass of the pad wasn't actually moving if I hadn't read a million and a half reviews before I bought it. Coming from a 15" screen, the sheer tininess of the whole thing is a little but jarring, but I'm adjusting to it the best that I can. Honestly, the only reason I came to write this review is because I really wanted an excuse to type on the fancy keyboard. I definitely recommend this laptop. It's great.

    Good Introductory Macbook

Be aware that this particular MacBook is meant to be Apple's baseline starter laptop, despite the price. Next in quality comes the MacBook Air, and finally at the top, the MacBook Pro. Think of it as a midway product between an iPad and a MacBook Air. The USB-C port is a brand new addition to Apple's MacBook line. If you plan to connect this to an external monitor, or plug in a USB drive, be prepared to buy a drive extender and an adapter. There is only a single USB-C port on the entire computer. Be aware that as of the time this review was written (4/14/15), there is not a way for this laptop to be connected to a display via thunderbolt.

I bought this MacBook to upgrade from the iPad Air/Zagg Keys Folio that I have been using for the last 3 years for my office work. As a pastor, I produce approximately 6 pages/4500 words of manuscript content per week, and I need something small and lightweight enough for me to be able to take it anywhere I need to go. This MacBook offers all of the power needed for content creation, and is small enough to be carried everywhere.

This computer is great for every person who wants a portable computer with Mac OS. It's really lightweight and if you are geared towards a more wireless-syncing environment its going to be a great addition to your technology. Great screen resolution and even though the processor is less than other models it is still great for multitasking

Let me start off by saying the new MacBook in gold is to die for! It's such a beauty to look at. I'm really in love with the new keyboard. The keys are flat and don't stick out this is a major plus for me because my daughter removed quite a few keys from my MacBook Pro but these don't come out so easily. Another plus is the Retina display! It's beautiful! You will truly enjoy this MacBook even if it's just to stare at it!

Purchased this gorgeous laptop towards the end of April, and after many disappointing emails claiming that it was delayed again and again, it finally arrived at my local Best Buy for in-store pickup today. This machine is gorgeous, though it shows fingerprints very easily. It's snappy and has been great for basic tasks thus far. If you value portability and sleekness over power, you might find yourself preferring this to the equally-priced but more powerful MacBook Pro w/ Retina. The picture in this review is taken with the Kate Spade 12" Surface Pro 3 case, also from Best Buy, which is a perfect fit for my new MacBook. Love it so far!
