This computer is great for my wife. She wanted something that was light, quick and responsive to surf the web, send emails and upload photos to. We love the small size and the retina display. The sale at Best Buy made us choose this over a Macbook Pro or Air.

This is a must have MacBook if your looking to upgrade your current Apple products. I travel a lot and this is a great product to have!

(note: the 2015 Macbook is in short supply at the time of this writing) There are a couple of things that turned out surprisingly different from what I thought before using this product. First, the color. I wanted to see the computer in person because I wasn’t sure of my decision. I had watched a bunch of online videos, and had clearly set my preference on to the gold model (space gray would have been my second choice and I really didn’t like silver). Unfortunately, Apple didn’t have items on display on day one (more on this later). It took almost a week before I finally got my hands on the three models. Interestingly, I set my final choice on the silver model. Gold was definitely **way** too yellow for my taste (very different from the subtle rose gold of the iPhone 6), and the graphite version was collecting smudges. The silver model was fit, especially for the office environment. If you want this device, any color will do it though. Second, I was really concerned with the battery life; in the beginning, I kept my eyes on the battery level all day long and I feared it wouldn’t last for a full day. I haven’t used it from morning to evening, but on some days, I used the laptop quite a lot and I still have plenty of battery left in the evening. A good chunk of what I do includes RDP/Citrix to remote servers w/ coding in IDE, some internet browsing, emailing w/ Airmail etc. Nothing fancy, but real software engineering work nonetheless. Because I missed the first opportunity to get the laptop within one to three days on the Apple online store, I decided to order it from one of the apple insider sites. I first bought it with another vendor but after a week, there was still no estimate for the delivery; and Apple’s own site was still showing a four to six weeks delays. But then I read that article in the news about some customer complaining their laptop would be available at BestBuy **before** they’re in the Apple store. I gave it a try, and lo and behold, they had it for **ONE** business day shipping. The ordering process went flawlessly; I bought the laptop on a week-end, BB shipped it on Monday, and it was delivered on Tuesday morning at 11AM. Packaging was excellent. Whomever got his hand on the inventory for Best Buy should get a raise; right now the product is very hard to find anywhere else. Now coming to the laptop itself, I would say it’s simply the best computer I ever owned (I have owned many). The computer does run a little warm if you push it but the operating system shines on this device, and for my usage, it’s even hard to distinguish from my desktop workstation. I don’t run any resource intensive application, but I can run Xcode and write some swift code without any issue. I have installed a bunch of applications, and everything works right. The screen is absolutely superb and the computer incredibly thin. I got a lot of praise from co-workers, friends and family (everybody wants one now). The keyboard is also surprisingly good. Again, I had concerns with the low travel keys, and I didn’t really like it when I tried it in the store; but after a few days it turned out to be very comfortable. You can bang on the keyboard and get a very satisfying feedback. I really like the trackpad too. The clicks are hard to distinguish from a mechanical trackpad; I’ll need to get used to the force click though but it’s nice too. I installed a few applications to make the system fit my needs. In particular, I had trouble running Citrix at high resolution, and this is because the Mac will present a lower 1440x900 resolution to the remote server. Installing QuickRes fixed the issue, I now run at 1680x1050, which is still a 16:10 aspect ratio but with a lot more details on the remote server. I haven’t found a good sleeve for this laptop; it’s so new that very few vendors carry the exact dimensions for the 12-inch version. I have my eyes on vendors like Etsy and JoliOriginals who seem to have quality products. In the same vein, USB-C adapters are pretty sparse at the moment; I’ll probably buy the Apple adapter, just in case (you know, Murphy’s law…). As a conclusion, I would highly recommend this laptop to anybody with standard computing needs. I am sure the specs will improve over time. But as they say, the best camera is not the camera with the best specs, but the one you’re carrying with you. Same applies with this laptop - it’s a seriously competent device, that is so light, you can have it with you all the time. I started moving around with this device everywhere I go, something I never did before, even with my tablets. I can sit where I like in the office, and get stuff done immediately. It probably sounds a bit over the top, but I guarantee this laptop gives me an intense sense of freedom; I can accomplish any serious task, anywhere and this is priceless.

Awesome Mac if you need a small, easy to transport and very powerful laptop.

Bought this to replace my older Macbook and I must say I am more than satisfied. I had both the white which is starting to go but my black Macbook is still kicking strong. So I have no worries that this one will do the same. The touch pad has a slight learning curve but you get use to it after a while.

Overall I'm happy with the laptop. Mainly use this for emails, surfing web, movies and music. My only gripe is that Apple could of put in an extra USB-C port.

Superb feel and build quality. If you are in the market for a mac you are probably bran aware and you know what you want. This model has severe constraints of the ports, but the innards are solid. You cannot go wrong with a mac if it is in your budget, just make sure you do not need to attach a lot of peripherals to this one. A solid portable device though. Wish it was a bit cheaper.

Purchased as Christmas gift for my wife. She loves how portable it is.

The wife has a MacBook Pro that has been a tank for the last 6 years and still runs like a champ. When I was looking at getting a new notebook, the total cost of ownership and build quality played a big role in my evaluation. I've had PC laptops that didn't last 2 years before I was looking to replace it (and some of these were top of the line). Apple products stand the test of time and even though the initial purchase price may be higher, their long run quality more than makes up the difference. I haven't even gotten to the design / styling - I'm shocked at how thin and light this laptop is (even with a rugged protective case)

This is the best mobile device i have ever used. It is light and powerful. the screen is sharp for the size and easy to see. A slight disappointment that i had to resize some apps to be able to see all the content.

absolutely love it!! i was a bit nervous as i've never used mac before except for my iphone, but it really wasn't bad. it takes a little getting used to but so happy with my purchase!!

Sub 2 pounds and a small footprint makes this a perfect portable laptop. Having only one USB-C port has not been an issue for productivity. The computer sufficient for lite tasks. The display is great and looks very crisp. I enjoy that the Macbook does not use cooling fans, that are loud and spin-up every few minutes like other laptops.

This is a great laptop. Although there are some things about the new IOS that has kept me from updating the current, the laptop performance is awesome...highly recommend.

The laptop has a classy look in gold. I purchased a light sleeve to protect the case. Perfect for travel: It is the right size and weight. The battery lasts a long time for flights and workshops.
