Since I made my first Mac purchase about eight or nine years ago, I have always owned a MacBook Pro. I owned 2010 and 2012 models. On this most recent purchase, however, I was going back and forth between buying the base model 12" MacBook and the base model MacBook Pro 13" model as their entry price are the same and they have different things to offer. I was very tempted to purchase the MacBook 12" when I first saw it in store; I loved the size and loved the keyboard; however, I was concerned when I initially saw the specs that came along with the base model. As I considered my options, there was a flash sale hosted by Best Buy that I could not resist. The current (2017) MacBook's price was significantly decreased and, to save even more money, I found an open box, certified like new, deal on the same date. I figured that this was the perfect time to make up my mind and made the purchase. The computer arrived two days later. I immediately put the computer through its paces and tested its competence in completing the tasks I know I will put it through in the years to come (as I typically keep my Mac purchases a number of years before updating again). I was able to have the computer set up completely in 10-15 minutes. I did typical web searching and the computer handled this without lagging, even with multiple tabs. I simultaneously had multiple apps open at the same time, as I am a huge multitasker. The 8 GB memory makes this computer handle the multitasking with ease. I was able to have Calendar, App Store, Word, Messenger, Notes, Safari, and Photos running without any stuttering. Next, I downloaded iMovie and edited and exported a 4k video within the app . I understand that Macs and Mac software are optimized to work well together, but I was still quite surprised to see exactly how well this MacBook handled editing and exporting video This MacBook didn't only handle the editing with ease, but it actually seemed to export more quickly than my 2012 MacBoo Pro model did, which had a 2.9 i7 processor. The keyboard is definitely different from any keyboard I have used. I fell in love with it when I first played with it in store on a display model. I do not mind the shallow key travel as the clickiness of the keyboard makes typing on the machine a satisfying machine. I enjoy all MacBook keyboards, but I have already found out that I make fewer errors while typing on this MacBook's keyboard. I have always loved MacBook's trackpads and this one is my favorite. Clicking the trackpad actually feels like a real click. The trackpad seems to be quicker and more responsive than the trackpads I have had on my other MacBook Pro models and the size has increased for a more fluid experience. In sum, this MacBook initially won me over by its small, sleek, well-put together appearance, but kept me loving it once I experienced its surprising power, its beautiful screen, accurate and pleasing keyboard, and the quick and easy to use track pad. So far, this MacBook is everything I dreamed it would be (beautiful screen, extremely portable, fun to type on, and capable of handling every day tasks) and then some (editing video with ease using iMovie and beautiful performance with multitasking). I would definitely recommend this computer to anyone looking for a small and light computer that is also very capable. I do not do heavy movie editing, so a heavy user, or even a user not using software optimized for a Mac, would likely want to buy a Pro model MacBook to handle more intensive needs. However, for what I do, this computer is handling everything I need quite beautifully and I keep finding things to love about it when I feared I would feel the opposite.

This is a small but still powerful laptop with enough power to use as a student laptop without the weight or bulk of the MacBook Pro.

Fantastic size, t he system is quite fast and reliable, the resolution is great. I'm definitely getting another one for my son.

Got this on a flash sale. Price cannot be beat! The laptop is...well....its a Macbook. You're going to get the best of the best of the best. Apple products will last you a very long time without compromising quality. Believe me when i say this. I have a Macbook Air from 2011 and its still a beast! I'm using that as my home laptop and this new macbook for work so I needed portability. If youve been researching, this macbook is for your basic computing needs but it does so much more IMO. The screen is amazing! There is a significant difference with the new retina screen. But what I love about this smaller macbook is just that, its so incredibly small, portable and just well made. Also, the seamless connection in the apple eco-system is pretty amazing. I've had pc laptops in the past. They all work well for the first 2 maybe 3 years and then you start to experience lag, crashes, freezes and it literally drove me nuts. After I switched to Apple almost 10 years ago...NONE OF THAT! So save yourself the headache and heartache of getting a pc laptop and get a macbook.

Very nice computer. Keep in mind it only has one USB-C port. Additional ports can be accessed by purchasing an adapter. This runs about $69.90. Also, the computer does not automatically go to sleep when you close the cover. Genius bar staff reccommended getting in the habit of putting computer to sleep befores closing cover. This is not an inconvience, as it only requires 2 extra steps which take about 2 seconds to do. The computer will automatically reopen when you raise the cover.

Really nice looking. Lite to Carry. Very quiet. Good charging fo a while. Has all the windows you need. Magnificent.

I use this laptop in my business. It’s a beautiful gold color. Very lightweight. Extremely portable for travel. Great screen resolution. I love it. One issue: some of the keyboard keys have chipped. That is a manufacturing/design flaw. It’s the heavily used keys only.

I look forward to learning more about my Mac and using it to further my education. It is lightweight and compact.

I got a Macbook Air in 2014 which was still very useful up to this day with normal usage. However, it does feel like it’s struggling when I do video editing. I initially got a Macbook but felt that it might not have enough power as I expected. I exchanged it with the Pro and it definitely feels very capable. Everything is impressive especially the sound. I prefer the weight of the Macbook but I’m sure this Pro will do a much better job with everything else.

Went from a 2011 MacBook Air to this. This is faster, even though it is a m3 processor. If you don't need more than one USB-C port and mainly use your computer for web surfing and modest office apps, you'll be fine. It really comes down to portability. Everything else seems heavy after using this.

Bought this MacBook as a birthday present for my wife, she had been using a 7 year old MacBook pro so it was definitely time for an upgrade. The portability of this laptop and screen resolution respective to its relatively small size are easily the two best features. My wife is not a business user but does occasionally require some light word processing and photoshop work, this MacBook excelled here as well. Thus far battery life has not been an issue either. I would highly recommend this model to anyone who values portability and doesn’t need all of the features of the more exspensive pro models.

I've been an avid Mac user for a while now and I left a MBP 15". I was concerned about the lack of ports at first and started reading the reviews and user experiences. What I realized was that I didn't need a computer with better processing speeds and I really don't use any of the other ports. For what I use a computer for on a daily basis, it didn't make sense to beef my system out. So instead I went the complete opposite and got the smallest, minimalist, lightweight computer out there. It's seriously been a great purchase. If you are someone who does more intense video work, gaming, etc, then this computer is not for you. Seriously tho... 2 lbs, 1 port, razor thin... It's a no brainer.

Laptop is compact lightweight yet extremely powerful! Does everything you want.

My husband is in sales and needed a laptop that is light, quick, powerful, and this MacBook fit the bill perfectly. He takes it on the road with him and is able to easily create and run his product presentations with his customers.

I replaced my 11 inch MacBook Air with this. It’s a very good laptop and if you’re looking for something smaller than the 13” MacBook Air, this is the only choice Apple has, at this time. It’s a lot more expensive than a MacBook Air so you’ll have to consider that (but I got a open box model with an additional sale.) The screen resolution is great and so much better than MacBook Air’s non-retina display. But it’s not exactly edge to edge. There is no bezel and it’s all glass, but you do have a black border so keep that in mind. And this is lighter and thinner than the 11 inch Air. The fact that it only has one port which is USB-C could be an issue that you have to get used to or buy adapters/dongles for. If you can accept the higher price than an Air, you’ll be pretty happy with this machine.

I love the color and the size of this laptop. It's a good choice for girls.

Although I'm admittedly a Mac guy, this MacBook is a fine piece of equipment that holds all of the software my son needs, is fast and light, and is easy to carry in his backpack. In short, it was the perfect choice and at a good price.
