great size, display disappointing vs. retina
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After using 3 different 15" MacBook Pros daily for the past 6 years at work, this is my first time trying an Air. I love the size and profile - unlike the MacBook Pros, the front edge of the laptop doesn't press into your wrists. Works great for general email, web, word processing etc. Only major complaint is that after using a Retina display for the past 2 years, the non retina display looks much worse by comparison.

The MacBook Air is amazing!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will never go back to a PC after purchasing the MacBook Air. The simplicity in design and usage is so welcome. Must admit there is a learning curve but with the excellent support of Apple Care the transition to the MacBook Air was a pleasant experience. Another benefit of the MacBook Air I don't need to purchase a malware or anti-virus software package every 6 months or year.

Great Apple product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great laptop. The biggest complaint is that this isn't the retina version. That's my fault. So, no biggie. One thing I would recommend is to find one of those MicroSD to SD adapters that are flush so you can expand the storage. It's cheaper than upgrading the hard drive size. Also, if you plan on using Bootcamp, you'll have problems with Windows 8.1

Solid Build/Performance, Mediocre Display; go PRO!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and I purchased the Macbook Air, mostly for my use, after a series of purchases/exchanges of flimsy and glitchy PCs (including a refurb Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, Toshiba Click 2 Pro, both around $1000, a $700 ASUS, and an open-box $500 Sony...I know, it was ridiculous) had me absolutely exasperated with Microsoft and ready to switch to Apple, a decision my husband was thrilled by since everything he uses is Apple. The Macbook air clearly surpassed the PCs I purchased in build and "feel". More specifically, the Macbook's hinge was far superior to those of the PCs, which felt extremely flimsy and bounced every time you moved or touched the laptops. Granted, part of this is due to the fact both the Toshiba and the Lenovo are convertible laptops so their hinges are inherently different, however I don't think their hinges should be inherently loose, which all of the convertible PCs seem to be. Even though the Macbook Air was extremely thin and light, it felt very solid. In comparison, the sony I purchased had a very "mushy" keyboard that literally caved every time you pushed a key. Other issues I had with the PCs included a flickering screen (Lenovo), extremely unreliable battery life (Toshiba; it would literally say "2 Hours remaining" one minute, then "6 hours" the next, then "4 hours" the next, and so on), incompetent customer service (Toshiba...seriously, they didn't even know what the laptop was), and very slow WiFi (Sony) were all non-issues with the Mac, which performed reliably and efficiently. Alas, there was one severe drawback to the Macbook Air that gave it it's place as the 1st runner-up in my laptop lineup, and the reason I eventually exchanged it for a Macbook Pro (which I am happily typing on at this time, and 100% satisfied with): Mediocre display. When we decided to switch to an Apple laptop, we purchased the Macbook Air without actually looking at one in the store. When comparing the Air and the Pro prior to purchase, we saw that the retina display was one of the defining differences between the two, but I figured with all the great reviews on the Air, it must still have a great display, just not an extraordinary one as the retina would provide. Unfortunately, when we actually received the Macbook Air and I started using it, I found the display quite poor when compared to the PCs in this price range. The text was actually blurry (to me at least) and you could easily see individual pixels. This is really unacceptable for such an expensive and high-end laptop and for Apple in general. Indeed, I compared the specs for the Air to the PCs I had purchased previously and found it had about two-thirds of the total number of pixels as the PCs I purchased with the same screen size that were several hundred dollars less. For this reason we decided to pay a few hundred dollars more and get the Macbook Pro. Between the MUCH nicer display and better processor found on the PRO, it was definitely the right move. And it to me, it is just as portable as the Air (the weight difference is only about half a pound). I highly recommend anyone looking at the Air to go in the store and compare it closely to the Pro before making your decision. It's a shame (and rather embarrassing) how many laptops I had to go through to find one I liked and that worked properly, but I think it's more embarrassing for the PC industry to have such poor quality control and put out so many defective products, and it's unfortunate that you have to pay so much money to get a solid laptop that performs reliably and is backed by competent, friendly, and reliable customer service reps. But I have learned my lesson: it's true...you get what you pay for. I am glad we were able to afford the Macbook Pro, and plan to enjoy it for many, many years!

Don't look at another brand- go apple
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm not really an apple guru. I've purchased a new HP laptop in October, returned it wasn't what I wanted. I've had dell before. Wanted easy to use, since I'm getting much older! My 14 yr old convinced me to get an apple! I sure am happy I listened to him!!! Now we have 2, one for him and one for me! More than what wanted to spend, but worth it!!!

Awesome!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After lugging around a 15' PC laptop that weighed 6.5 pounds and dealing with constant virus threats, the Macbook Air at 2.9 pounds is like carrying a feather. Not worrying about threats is a whole new way of computing. Then add to this the seamless integration between my other Apple products and I'm wondering why it took me so long to switch.
