GREAT computer - Keyboard not my favorite

I upgraded to the 2016 Macbook Pro w/o touchbar from a 2009ish Macbook Pro. The improvement in performance and speed was dramatic. The style of the new computer is outstanding. LOVE the space gray. Love how thin it is. The ports have not been much of an issue for me. I bought a tiny USB C to USB 3 adapter and it's super easy to carry around. Just throw in in a little pouch in my computer sleeve. The screen is amazing as well. So much brighter, and a HUGE improvement over my old MBP screen. The jump to retina is wonderful. The new style of keyboard is not my favorite, although you do get used to it. I prefer the older chiclet style of keyboard still. I've also had issues with certain keys getting extremely clicky when the computer gets warm.

I read a lot of reviews before I bought this Macbook Pro for my daughter. Based on the reviews, I was going back and forth between this version and the old version because the reviews talked about the older version being more powerful. But my daughter really wanted the new model and so we got this one and are extremely happy that we made the right choice for her. For the type of usage she does, the features of the new version outweighed the older version. It's fast and light weight.

Really light, solid, easy to use. This is my first MacBook pro and I'm enjoying it everyday. The only thing that I'm not enjoying is that it only has 2 usb-C it's hard to find a good hub but I knew this before buying it.

Couldn't decide between the 2015 version or this late 2016 one. At first I thought not having various built in ports would be inconvenient. That is not the case. The apple adaptor works well but not having the other ports reduces the weight by about 1/2 pound. The computer is really fast, has a super quiet keyboard and weighs the same as a MacBook Air. The 13" is also smaller than the 13" MacBook Air because of the reduced framing around the screen. I highly recommend

Love the sleek design of the new MacBook Pro. Not having enough ports doesn't really bothered me. Took a while to get used to the keyboard but it I still fine. Display I see gorgeous. Miss the Mac safe adapter.

    My first laptop

I will start off by saying that this is my first apple product. I am 23 years old and I needed a laptop for work and for personal use. Before buying this laptop I reviewed many different laptops and considered buying a surface, or a Samsung laptop; but no matter how good some reviews were, there were always those reviews that pin pointed out the flaws that bothered me quite a bit. I didn't want to jump right into a MacBook because of the price of this thing. But after really reviewing this computer and others that seemed perfect with lots of flaws, I decided to jump. I jumped carefully of course lol. I'm paying it off in payments with no interest for 18 months with a Best Buy credit card I applied for. I really think I made a choice that will last way longer than its competitors. It took me a while to get used to it but now that I have I love the ease of everything. The trackpad is awesome, the keyboard isn't too bad, the screen is beautiful, and learning shortcuts helped quite a bit. If you don't know much about apple shortcuts, Pinterest helped me out with quite a bit. I also downloaded Spotify, Musixmatch and other things I can't live without right from their respective websites since I couldn't find them in the App Store. All in all, choose what you want to choose. I have a USB-C adaptor to USB that I use for a lot of things (Camera, flash-drive, headphones with microphone for work). I do hope usb-c becomes a THING in the future because using lots of different adaptors can really suck. In conclusion.... I really like the laptop I have. If you're going to make a choice on something you have control over, than choose what you think will make you happy in the long run. Weigh in all your options and things to consider and make a smart decision.

This is my first MacBook and I went with the Pro version. I work a lot with photoshop and building websites and this laptop runs everything with great speed. The load times are amazing and I love Macs feature of seeing two apps on one screen with ease. The gestures that you can do with the touchpad make using the laptop with multiple windows at once extremely easy.

The redesigned MacBook Pro is really handy and easy to carry. It is now even lighter and thinner than MacBook Air. It is suitable for some heavy work, and works great while connecting remotely to office servers.

This macbook pro is a very nice machine. I had a 2010 macbook pro 15" and it was starting to become really slow and the hard drive was failing. Figured I was due for a new laptop, and did my research... came down to this macbook pro vs the air. I liked the Macbook air, but research said that the Pro was worth the money over the Air. (graphics, faster, etc...) It is a little adjusment going from a 15" to a 13", which they were cheaper or otherwise I would had gotten a new 15". This thing IS fast. One thing is don't forget to buy a USB-C to USB adapter. Not sure why Apple didn't give one to you in the first place. (they were sold out in all of the best buys in my area, had to have them order it and ship it to me).

Overall, the new macbook pro priced (minus the gimmicky magical bar) has proven to be quick, reliable and compact. The only drawback I have noticed is Apple failing to include usb-c to usb 3.0 converter cables in the packaging. One could even opine that Apple thinks that its buyers have "money to burn".

I use this Laptop for school and must say how happy I have been with this purchase. It's extremely light and very responsive. This is my first Mac laptop and compared to the others I've had, Toshiba and HP, there is no comparison. This one starts up very quickly, really quiet, and the new keyboard is amazing. Definitely recommend this for the busy professional that needs a reliable laptop or a student that needs to do homework. Amazing computer.

Battery life struggles, but decent laptop

I demoted my mid-2013 Macbook Air to my daughter and purchased the late 2016 Macbook Pro. The first thing I noticed is battery life on the Pro is maybe 60% of the old Air. Not the end of the world, but I do have to charge more around the house than I used to. I had to order another charger to make that easier. One for upstairs, one for downstairs. Charging suddenly became a necessary way of life after moving from the Air to the Pro. The spare charger is expensive and does not come with the required USB-C cable which must be purchased separately (non-Apple USB-C cables are priced better). Both the included and spare USB-C charger are much shorter than the old Air chargers since it does not include the extension cord like they used to. (It's just a square power unit with a USB-C port, no cord. Apple really pushing those profit margins I guess). The good news is the USB-C charging connecter doesn't constantly fall out like the Magsafe type did every time you move the laptop around on the sofa or bed. So Apple finally moving to a standard format really helps. Plus you can use the same charger with the Macbook and your Google Pixel phones and stuff. The Pro feels much heavier than the old Macbook Air despite weighing less than a pound more. The weight distribution is much different. It feels heavier when moving it with one hand or when resting on your lap. The Air and Pro both have 13.3" displays. The extra screen real estate on the Pro (2560×1600 13.3") vs the Air is nice but text is indeed much smaller so be prepared for that if your vision is less than perfect. Aside from tiny text size, the retina display itself looks exactly the same as the non-Retina display on the Air as far as color, contrast, and brightness. You won't notice an improvement beyond the higher resolution. The Retina marketing fluff is just that. If you regularly use a decent monitor the Macbook Pro retina display will not impress you much. The Pro has better CPU specs and more RAM than the Air, but you can't really notice much difference there either since Moore's law ended at Intel a few years ago. Overall, I like more screen space via resolution of the Pro. The short battery life of a few hours is a drag though. The Air is still a better buy if you don't need the higher display resolution. Oh, and the keyboard on the Pro is a bit better to use. Easier to type really fast. Skip the Touchbar model, there is almost no software that uses it and I read many folks saying it is difficult to use and reduces already poor battery life even further.

I previously had a MacBook Air. After less than a month, I noticed a small "smudge" on the screen. Unfortunately, I dismissed it as nothing important. I did not use that laptop very often, so I didn't really notice that the "smudge" was slowly increasing in size for well after the warranty period. Five years later the smudge was a crack all the way across my screen. I was told it would cost more to fix than replace. I took it to Best Buy and they offered me a trade in of my old Mac Air for this MacBook Pro. WOW - what a difference! Not just in performance but in durability. It's much less "fragile" and without much increase in weight.

My review might be a little biased since I use apple products for everything and haven't really ever given any windows products a decent try (for a good period of time). This computer is fast in terms of opening up applications quickly and anything else you need it to do. I do not think the touch bar is very useful at all, especially someone who is proficient with a keyboard. The fingerprint sensor is cool, but I wouldn't say that makes the touch bar worth it either. I personally would've just gone with the non touch bar model if the specs were equivalent. If every day computing is what you need a computer for, then I would definitely go with the non touch bar and save yourself the money.
