Easy Transition from Windows to Mac

From being a windows user my entire life I was slightly worried that the transition to macOS would be difficult. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. It has been one of the easiest transitions software wise that I've ever encountered. I really enjoy the Macbook Pro and am fully satisfied with my purchase. The only thing I would say is that the battery runs low pretty quickly compared to my Lenovo Yoga that I had purchased last year. It lasts maybe 75% of the day if I do not stay on it for long periods of time.

This is definitely the best laptop I have ever had. It's a workhorse! My backpack fell out of the back door of my van and hit cement, Dented my laptop, but it continues to work like a charm.

Apple doesn't care about their customers!!!

This review will be as much about about Apple as a company and the way they treat their customers, as it is about the actual product which DID failed 2 months out of warranty at no fault of the owner. My son got his MacBook Pro when he started college last year. Instead of buying him a $400 laptop, we splurged on a Macbook Pro for more than 3 times the price. It was a splurge, but we figured spread out over 4 years it's okay. Well, the computer only lasted 1 year and 2 months. Then the screen turned in 6 vertical pink bars when opened more than 90 degrees. See picture) After several stops at the Apple Store and multiple calls to tech support in California, these are my findings: 1) Apple acknowledged that my son was very unlucky and ended up with a (according to Apple very rare) defective product, not his fault. If this would have been a car, the LEMON LAW would have applied. 2) EVERYONE at Apple told us we should have bought the extended warranty (I guess paying a premium price for a premium product doesn't mean anything anymore...). Your APPLE product MOST LIKELY will fail before it is 3 years old. Reassuring words directly from the selling company (sarcasm). 3) We were 2 months out of warranty, the Macbook looked like new. No dents, scratches or anything. TOO BAD, out of warranty is out of warranty. Upfront cost to fix the problem $475 (!!!!) 4) The Apple tech guys in California told me to go back to the Apple Store (at Coconut Point in Estero, FL) and plead with a manager for a fair solution because everyone agreed that it was NOT our doing that the Macbook Pro broke. It clearly was a hardware failure INSIDE the Macbook Pro. 5) Going back to the Apple Store and talking to the manager got me nowhere. The manager told me literally that Apple's responsibility to it's shareholders is MORE IMPORTANT to them than helping out it's customers. When I asked him that this means that I am out of luck (I actually used a different phrase but I cannot put that in this review), he simply said YES you are. So now I have an unusable Macbook Pro in "like new" condition with the option of spending almost $500 on a USED and out of warranty product or just throwing it out and buy something else. I hate throwing good money after bad, so I will have to buy my son another computer. This time it will not be an Apple. As a matter of fact, I will never buy an Apple product again for as long as I live. I will phase out the 6 iPhones I have in my family and I will encourage everyone to learn from my experience. It can happen to you too!! Apple does NOT care about you. On a final note; under the agreement that Best Buy has with Apple, Best Buy is NOT ALLOWED to touch Apple computers for repair, even if the Apple product is out of warranty. Also, Apple purposely designs it's products in such a way that it is virtually impossible to fix any problems. As you know, you cannot add memory to your MacBook or iPhone, you cannot add your hard drive capacity, you cannot replace your battery, the screen is glued in and cannot be replaced without replacing the entire top shell of the Macbook, on and on and on. So Apple has put everything in place VERY DELIBERATELY to make sure that you cannot fix your product when you encounter a problem. A despicable company. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

The Mac-book Pro adds prestige in business sales situations. It is a good computer, yes, but the primary advantage to me is that my clients marvel at its sleek form and name brand. Even other Mac Book owners appreciate the confirmation of their good judgement in their purchase when the see my unit. I carry the silver version of the laptop in a silver briefcase along with the Magic Mouse. It is very functional and looks great.

Works perfectly. I ordered it online the morning I got it and Best Buy cancelled my order after I went to see if it was ready. I then had to pay with cash at a register. Not impressed with them canceling it.

I own an older model Mac Pro tower and a newer iMac. I use them for video editing, which is my job. The graphics card on the tower started showing signs of wear. Coupled with it's inability to upgrade to the newest OSX, I decided to take the plunge and invest in a new machine. At first I was going to choose an open box of the slightly older model but at the counter found out it was ineligible for apple care. The sales guy hadn't realized that so said he could take 100 bucks off the price of the newest one plus get a student discount of another $125. It was a good enough deal for me, just had to decide on some specs. Since my tower is still good as a render machine I didn't feel the need to gork over the cash for the 16gb. I wanted the bigger 15" screen but couldn't justify the price difference. I also didn't care too much if i had the new touchbar or not. Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing, but I haven't been longing for it yet. The one thing I did care about was not settling for the base storage, I opted for the 256. That way I can easily fit all my apps plus project files if I know i will be working away from the office or my house. After a wild goose chase across 4 best buy stores to get the space gray, I finally got home with my new MBP and unboxed it. This is the moment I realized about the ports. I will admit - I initially freaked out and wanted to return it immediately. But what does that get me in the long run? After putting some thought into it I found an immediate temporary workaround. I transferred the apps and files I needed right away from my iMac via airdrop. The next day I purchased one USB adapter for immediate needs and when my 5% cash back comes through I will use that to order the Hyperdrive hub. I will also add that the space gray is outstanding and worth the several hours of my life it took to find one in stock. I just don't like the brightness of the silver and wouldn't want to look at it for 8 hours out of my day. First world problem, I know, but if I'm spending that much money, it's got to be worthwhile On to my initial testing with different apps. Final Cut Pro handled the project I pulled up really well, as expected. After Effects rendered out a 4 second animated graphic in 3 minutes and it looks fantastic. Cinema4D is what showed the poorest handling, as expected. This is obviously not a render machine nor would I ever try to use it as one but if I need to bang out a short 3D logo animation while on the go I think it will do ok. After a day of usage, I did not care so much about the smaller screen size. It was actually nice and easy to carry around the house and at work will hook up to a larger display anyways. I love the keyboard, definitely a plus in my book though I know there are mixed opinions. So the system takes up about 36gb and after downloading my musthaves those took up another 19, so long as I don't use this guy for any of my itunes stuff (entirely possible thanks to Spotify), I think I will be ok for awhile with 192gb remaining and utilizing externals. I don't love the small amount, but that's due to my budget and needing it in hand that same day. In short, this is not a complete replacement for any of my pro machines, but it will do in the interim and I have always wanted the laptop option. My office is on the warmer side (probably contributing to my graphics card failure) so to not have to leave a machine there is ideal.
