Apple is beginning to go cheap

In their attempt to win the "thin and light" award, Apple has begun to cheapen their product. I suspect that other laptop manufacturers will follow or have followed suit. 1) The butterfly keyboard is problematic in the long run. Their response to this issue is a guarantee on the keyboard for 5 years. That's like eating at a dirty restaurant daily with the promise that when you get salmonella, they'll pump your stomach for free. So far, fingers crossed, my keyboard is working. 2) The power button is now part of the keyboard. Before, it was not within the keyboard. If there is an issue with the button, you have to replace the entire keyboard. Whether or not that falls within the 5 year guarantee mentioned above is unknown. 3) The power cord used to consist of two parts: the wall wart which connected to the computer and an "extension" cord which allowed the computer to be further away from its power source. No more extension cord. 4) There used to be a light on the power connection indicating power status; amber charging, green charged. No more. 5) As part of the thin and light campaign, all but three ports for using external devices have been removed. There's a headphone jack and two USB-C connectors. Now, you have to buy dongles to attach accessories. Rather than buy a bunch of dongles, I spent $100 on a HyperDrive attachment which plugs into the two USB-C ports and gives me an HDMI port, two USB-C ports, two standard USB ports, an SD slot and a microSD slot. On the plus side, this newer and thinner MacBook Pro runs rings around my mid-2012 MBP which I have wiped and installed Debian Linux. If you accept being part of the Apple Cult, a MacBook Pro is a no brainer; go for it. But be aware of what I perceive as short comings and a touch of cheapness.

My first Apple Mac. Have been planning for one from a long time and finally could lay my hands on one. Very sleek and light weight for the power-packed performance it comes with. However, needs to be cared like a baby. The lightning USB-C port it comes with is wonderful, though needs an additional adapter for my other USB-A peripherals. I am happy with the product and would definitely recommend to a friend.

I absolutely love my 2017 MacBook Pro. It's fast, easy, and reliable over the last few months of use. One piece of the charging cable stopped working, but it was replaced for free since it's a known issue with some Type-C cables. MacOS High Sierra has also been a great update which works flawlessly! I highly recommend this as I have seen people spend a lot less on a few laptops over the life of one Macbook

This is our 3rd Macbook Pro. This one replaces a 2013 13" that we thought was pretty great. My wife is an author and wrote 5 novels on that old 2013. We unpacked this bad boy, restored her old computer from backup and off she went. She hates when I get her new tech so I was nervous when she walked back into my office two hours later... "It's FAST! Oh! And this keyboard? (This is where I was sure I was a deadman.) "This keyboard is AWESOME!" I know it won't mean much to you, but my wife being even the slightest bit happy with a bit of new tech is a big deal. Oh! And the battery life is ridiculous. One charge gets her through pretty much the entire day (10 hours) of work. If you're looking to save on Apple's new line pricing without suffering a huge performance hit, this machine seems to be the sweet spot.

This computer makes life easier. The screen size and clarity are easy on the eyes. The light weight and slim profile are a vast improvement over my ten-year old MacBook Pro. This is exactly what I wanted for on-the-go use.

I went from a 13" Air to the 13" Pro and the screen alone is worth the upgrade. The heft and build is just right to feel substantial yet very portable. Next to my wife's surface laptop this thing is far superior in build quality. Performance has been great as well. I only wish the drive was much larger for the price. I have been a long time user of OSX and they just work.

    What we've come to expect...

Sleek design and a fast OS - it's what we've come to expect from Apple. I will say the soldered RAM situation is very frustrating and only having two (2) TB3/USB-C ports isn't super helpful when one of those ports is connected to the charger, so I docked a star. Bottom line, this purchase is at a higher price point than a majority of similiarly configured PCs running Windows, but you are buying a beautifully engineered machine, from both an aesthetic and hardware design point of view, that runs smoother than its MS competitors. - Returned HP Spectre x360 after 10+ days for this MBP - I use a HP EliteBook 840 G3 with Win10 daily for work

This is my second Apple pc (first one was a MAC desktop model) and I’m very pleased with the quality and performance of the laptop. Battery life is reasonable. Use of latest USB ports may hinder from connecting older ian devices, however you can get a hub converter to connect older devices. Will take some time for other vendors to adopt the new usb Technology.

Upgraded from a 2011 MacBook Pro. Obviously much has improved over the years. Amazing how much better and it actually cost less than the 2011 did. I don’t miss the optical drive or ports, but I did get one adapter (USB-C to USB). Touchbar seemed cool, but didn’t feel like paying the extra $$, so got the non-touchbar version. Traded in the 2011 to B.B., got close to what other sites offer without the hassle of shipping and waiting. Don’t forget to shop around for best deal at other stores and major online, because BB will match (saved ~$ 150). If upgrading from another Mac, follow Apple guidelines to backup old and then restore to new Mac and all your apps and settings will be as they were.

My first ever MacBook and I must say its well worth the pretty penny price. I used to have an acer and it finally fried and slowed down drastically over the 3 years of having it. Almost at the end of college career and think that the investment on this MacBook Pro is so worth it as my career will demand newer technology knowledge and this has it all! It is very sleek and lightweight and the new butterfly keyboard is very easy to type on. I also love that you can adjust the backlit keyboard brightness. The only thing I'm not such a fan of is that you have to buy adaptors for USB ports (etc.) And the laptop does overheat a bit when you're first installing programs on it and setting it up (like it actually burns your laps a bit lol). but other than that, it's great!!

This is a quality computer. As you may have read in the other reviews or saw in the specs, it does not have a bunch of the usual USB ports. And, like most new computers, there is no disc drive. So it continues the trend of having less places for input as things become smaller/wireless, but that is still not so practical for many people. Anyhow, the computer operates smoothly. It is very user friendly. It's beautiful. It's not a touch screen but I don't want that anyway, and it does not come with the gimmicky touch bar at the top of the keyboard. I got this on sale for about 900, likely because of newer options coming out. For that price point, I'm pretty happy, but this would not be a great deal full price.

This MacBook Pro is awesome! it’s super light weight, portable, speedy, and the battery lasts me 2-3 days of use, before I have to charge it again. I highly r commend this, even though it only has usb type C ports.
