Needed a new computer and so far this one is a winner.

I started with an Apple II+ back in the '80s, then a //c, then switched to a PC running MSDOS 3.1, so I have been around a while. Aside from the Microsoft pain-in-the-neck updates and s-l-o-w startup and shutdown, I was moderately content. Until MS started screwing with Windows 7 and "introduced" Windoze 8. That was the end. And Windows 10, with its lack of user choices, only changes the method of getting into trouble. So I switched back to Apple, to a 15" MacBook Pro Retina, 16GB, 1TB SSD and the graphics processor (bells and whistles, but WHAT a whistle!). Couldn't be happier and I wish I'd changed much earlier. I didn't buy from Best Buy, but I would have if they had had this special back then (mid-2014). I started with OS X 10.9 Mavericks and updated (for free, naturally) to 10.10 Yosemite with absolutely no problems. This thing starts in 5-8 seconds and always shuts down in less than ten seconds. I also run Windows 7 in Parallels, in a sandbox, for the few Windows programs that I can't do without (like Corel's WordPerfect). Don't bother with the Kaspersky's thing, because you don't need it...yet. Maybe in the future, but there are several free anti-malware programs that are just as good (like Avast! For Mac). I do run VIPRE on the Parallels, but, here again, I don't really need it, since I can merely dump the Windows installation if it gets an infection. I have not tried a 4K or 5K monitor, but I suspect that the Retina display on this laptop is just as good, or better. I use it for photographic image editing and it can't be beat. You could actually do with less than 1.0TB of SSD by keeping all your data on an external hard drive, like a W-D My Passport 1.0TB or 2.0TB. I do this, keeping all documents and photographic image files on a W-D 2.0TB My passport HDD. There is no delay in accessing data files. I back up using Acronis True Image 2016 (because that's what I am familiar with) to another My Passport 2.0TB HDD, but I also use the built-in Time Machine in OS X to automatically backup every 30 minutes to a 3TB Time Capsule (has built-in router, so it's a wireless backup...neat!). Would I recommend the MacBook Pro Retina? Absolutely, and I have.

Great for iTunes media server music videos and movies

This is my third MacBook Pro in the last 10 years. I didn't think Apple could make them any better but they've outdone themselves again. Highest quality, lightning fast, 8 second boot up and I even installed a bootcamp partition and am running Windows 10 which I am going to remove but just wanted to see what all the hoopla was on the the new Microsoft system. Nobody makes better hardware than Apple. A lot of money but worth every dime, you won't be disappointed.

It's so fast, and never crashes. You can store millions of things on it since it has so much storage. 10/10

I finally broke down and bought a high end Macbook Pro after being a PC user since the '80s. Wouldn't it figure that I would get one with a bad display? The screen flickers randomly. After searching for the problem online I see that 15" Macbook Pro Retinas have been prone to this problem for some time and there is no recall. Now I get to fight to have this unit replaced. Oh the joy of the season... Other than the bad screen this is a fast laptop and I do not regret the purchase. Just wish I didn't get a lemon...
