I requested this (MacBook Pro) as a birthday present, from my husband, to replace my old MacBook and although I’m still finding my way around, I’m finding it much easier to use compared to my old one. It’s sleek, fast and light weight.

I had a 2013 MacBook pro and it was starting to take a performance hit on some of the work I do not to mention It would not run a third 4K monitor so I decided to upgrade to a newer MacBook Pro (2017) model instead of purchasing the new (2018) and was a bit skeptical but it paid off in the end. Not only was it about $1000 cheaper it performs amazingly and should be a workhorse for many years ahead!

Our first Mac. Why not a Mac Book pro. As PC there was a learning curve. Nice that our IPhones and Mac are fully integrated.

2017 MacBook Pro - What else needs to be said?

I've had this for about 2 months now, and some of the features took a little adjustment period having come off a 2007 (!!) MacBook Pro. Notably the touch strip and the trackpad with it's larger area and gestures and the integral button area. The touch strip across the top has some truly interesting capabilities, and I still don't always look there for the features provided.
The screen is fantastic, battery life is good, The SSD seems much faster than a standard drive and is certainly far quieter. I particularly like the Touch ID. transferring data was reasonable smooth, but there were a few things in the keychain that didn't work on transferring and may have had to do with web site security more than anything.
There are always some negatives, and with this it comes down to the connectors. There are 4 USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 connectors. Including (any) one for power.I bought a couple of USB-A to USB-c adapters to work around this, but after just a month of using them, they began to be less optimum. I had disk connection problems and other connectivity issues. There are scads of direct cables out there, and they can be relatively inexpensive. So that problem has been solved.
The rational behind removing the mag-safe power connection eludes me, however. There are available break-away magnetic connectors, so that problem may be solved as well. The power adapter only came with a wall plug connector (I think my old MacBooks/Powerbooks came with a 6 foot power cable as well), but again, these are widely available at low cost. So that problem solved. Finally there is no CD/DVD reader/writer, but Apple makes an external drive, but for the same price I picked up a Pioneer CD/DVD/BluRay reader/writer.
Perhaps the best feature of all was the price. Best Buy had it on sale for $150 off, and I had my Best Buy birthday discount certificate, so it came in at about the same price as my 2007 model, way more power and features.

The only thing I wish it had is a CD player. Other than that, it’s brilliant!

Going from a 2012 MacBook Pro to this 2017 model was quite a jump. Both are quad core with decent specs and SSDs, but the performance improvement is amazing. The new model has 16GB which I was originally sad about (I was coming from 8, so hoping that the max would be 32 this time around), however, I have yet to hit the 16GB limit. In fact, I find that the new machine seems to use even LESS ram than the old one.
I also LOVE the battery life. My old machine had gotten to the point where the battery only lasted 2-3 hours under normal circumstances, and it would randomly shut down at 50% remaining sometimes.
I can easily get 6 hours out of this new machine with brightness almost all the way up while doing my development.
The Touch Bar is also nifty. I use the volume and brightness keys mostly, but I have also added a custom button for Safari which restarts some of my services when they hang (the bitter life of a web developer).
I do miss a firm escape key since I use Vim for all of my development, but the Touch Bar spot for it works reasonably well; much better than I expected.
That said, there are still a few hiccups.
I typically have 20-30 tabs open across 2 browser windows. On my old machine, it was more like 50-60 across 3-4 windows. I originally tried Chrome (my trusted browser) but began experiencing some lag when switching browsers tabs or application windows. It got so bad, I decided to give Opera a try (reading that it was faster). That failed because I need some addons that I could never get working, so I switched to Safari thinking it would be more optimized for the Mac.
As it turns out, it too was super slow. This definitely seems like a software issue because I still have 11GB of free RAM, 180GB of SSD space (so it's not paging), and the CPU doesn't seem to be taxed (at least not according to my iStatMenus).
Now, I'm using the integrated graphics, but I assumed the new machine would be able to handle basic web-browsing with a few things running in the background. I could potentially switch to the dedicated graphics, but then I lose pretty significant battery life.
Last annoying thing, and I'm pretty sure this is software too, it seems more difficult to hit the Cmd-C, Cmd-V keys to copy/paste. I think it's trying to be more smart about it, but very often I will copy/paste and absolutely nothing gets pasted. It's pretty irritating.
Overall, though, I still find it to be a quite good laptop that meets my needs. I've only done a tiny bit of gaming on it, but it did seem to do quite a bit better than my old machine. I would definitely recommend the upgraded graphics card if you are looking to game, though, as you will get much better performance.

The MacBook Pro Apple Laptop is easy to set up, and the LED bar on top is great to use when making word corrections or even changing web pages. The laptop can unlock using your Apple watch series two; I am not sure about series one or three. The keyboard lights up the keys for easy viewing, and the keys are easy to access. The laptop battery seems to last many hours and charges super quick when plugged. I had to buy an adapter to use USB and other attachments because the laptop only comes with four USB-C's. The finger reader for unlocking the computer works great. The laptop does not heat up or make fan noises; just the keys are a bit loud when typing. Overall, I would recommend this computer to school or work.

As I was replacing an iMac, i wanted comparable performance with the portability of a laptop and this absolutely delivered. Fast, lightweight and with surprisingly great features, such as the touch bar, after almost two months of use I feel I made the right choice. Definitely worth the extra $ for the upgraded processor and larger screen size (15” vs. 13”). I was skeptical of touch bar, but actually love it and the Touch ID to unlock.

My old MacBook need an overhaul, which I didn't want to, it was a no brainer to get The MacBook Pro since I made the switch to the MacBook in 2011 I haven't had any issues. This 2017 version is high quality, like the previous MacBook pros. It did surprise me one bit exceeding all my expectation! The Battery Life is awesome, speakers, screen, speed, the machine is fantastic. You couldn't ask for more.

If you've never owned a macbook you don't know what you're missing. I got my first macbook pro in 2009 and it's still going strong, no virus issues or system crashes just continuously reliable. I got to the point where I needed more ram and a little more processing power and this has it all. The touch bar and fingerprint scanner are another great addition and the speakers sound fantastic. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the lack of built in ports. These macbooks have one 3.5mm headphone jack and four C type ports which, granted, are multipurpose and have a super fast data transfer rate but that is it for ports, so if you are like me and frequently use usb flash drives and countless other accessories then you need adapters for everything so be prepared to add another $50 to $100 to the price tag depending on your needs. The one positive thing with the adapters is that you can have a single hub with several usb 3.0 ports, a 4k capable hdmi port, ethernet, card reader etc however when you want something plugged in you end up having the adapters hanging off the side of your laptop so it's definitely something to consider.

Bought this MBP 15 with touch bar 16GB RAM and 256GB storage to replace my dead 2011 MBP. I was initially hesitant on buying the new MBP as I liked the flexibility to upgrade the old one's RAM and SSD freely and I was used to and favored the old keyboard travel better than this one. After a few visits to the store and analyzing my own purposes for this device, I concluded that even if everything was soldiered on the logic board and would be a pain to upgrade (if even possible) later, I couldn't go back and risk buying an older new or older refurbished version for the risk of it dying on me again.
I pulled the trigger and I must say I was impressed and delighted with the performance and speed of the new generation. The cpu, ram and SSD combination are definitely fast enough for everyday surfing activities and mild photo and video work. The retina screen quality was a big upgrade for me from my MBP 2011 and touch bar is a refreshing idea but not as revolutionary as apple would lead people to believe, More often than not it is easier to click that to use the touch bar for regular tasks. It's useful though for rummaging through hundreds of photos and scratching through video timelines. Otherwise, I would have preferred if apple just made a touchscreen MBP in the future.
Overall, if you are in need of a replacement like I was, you just cannot go wrong with the new MBP. If you don't do photos or video or are more old school, I'd save a few hundred and skip the touch bar version. If you have a 2015-2016 MBP, I'd forego this new version because you won't notice a tangible speed difference to justify another $2000+ investment.
