Replacement for my Apple Pro 2009

Replaced this Mac Pro with a older Mac Pro I can not believe the difference. It boots up in record time and so fast while searching the web. When I bought this one I was debating if I should get the 256 GB or the 512GB was leaning towards the 512 but then I checked how much I was using on my old computer with a 500 GB hard drive and found out after 6 years I was only using about 60GB so I went with the smaller storage storage is getting very cheap that if I ever needed more than 256GB i can upgrade. Picture is sharp as a tac the one thing that some people might not like is no CD drive and USB but All and all it is the best laptop I’ve owned. I also have it hooked up to a Apple time machine 2TB and bought a 128 GB memory stick so I am not even thinking of the up grading to a bigger SSD

I have been very impressed with this laptop so far. It runs fast. Starts up fast. It can handle all the ADD multitasking I like to do. I made the switch from PC and am so happy I did. I love how it interacts with all my other Apple products. Yes it was expensive but everyone I spoke to said that Macs last for a long time. I am hoping that this will continue to work as well as it is right now. It is also a very cool looking laptop. Nice design. The display is so crisp and clear. I like the touch bar. Mostly for the Touch ID feature. I do end up using it more than I thought I would. The only con I would say other than the price is the usb-c only jacks. I mean you have to have an adapter for everything which is kinda a bummer. Hopefully more things will switch to usb-c in the future.

    Top of the line hardware

I bought this for my wife to use for school. The hardware is top of the line, expensive, but no more so than other premium products. The battery life is phenomenal for an i7, with an independent graphics card, and a retina display. I believe its advertised as ten hours and it can hit that with no issues. The touch bar is handy, not necessary, but definitely a handy addition. Overall i couldn't be happier. If i had one complaint to make it would be the charger. The cable is too short for a laptop and the transformer plugs directly into the wall. The transformer is large and this configuration makes it easy for it to fall out or be easily knocked out of the wall.

Solid update to the MacBook lineup!

If you're reading this review chances are you have already researched the MacBook Pro on Apple's website and/or other places, so I won't go through every single spec and feature of the computer, but I do want to highlight a few things *I* really do and don't like about it. First, the famed Touchbar. Is it essential? Probably not. But it's cool, and not just the flashy "look what this computer can do" kind of cool, but actually a USEFUL cool -- if only in certain apps. It actually creeped me out a bit at first because it seemed to be reading my mind. In case you're not aware, the Touchbar is a strip of glass just above the keys on the keyboard which lights up with various "buttons" depending on what app you're using. It's also where the "function" keys live (hold down the Fn button and they magically appear). Unfortunately it doesn't work with all apps -- for example, if you like to use Chrome as your browser you're out of luck. When using Safari, though, it's nice to see small previews of the pages you have open. So while I use the Touchbar more than I thought I would, I can't say I would miss it terribly if it disappeared. Second, the display. It's really a beautiful screen. I don't watch movies on my computer, but even just for web browsing and watching videos online I can notice a significant improvement in brightness and clarity compared with my previous Macbook (from 3 years ago). Third, the trackpad is enormous and wonderfully responsive. Unlike my previous Mac, I don't feel like I'm constantly running out of room when dragging my fingers across it. Seems like a little thing, but it makes a big difference! Fourth, the battery life is fantastic, at least for my amount of use. Admittedly I don't use this non-stop all day long, nor do I watch movies on it, but I only have to charge it once per day, and that's more than I can say for my previous Macbook. While the Touchbar is new and the graphics and speed are improved over previous generations, when it comes to overall design, features, and function I can't say this Macbook marks a radical departure from its predecessors. It's still iOS, the apps appear about the same, and the overall "Apple feel" is unchanged. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as I don't like it when companies change things just for the sake of change. But if you're purchasing this to replace a slightly older Macbook, just know that the overall experience will be familiar. So far the only thing I do NOT like about this computer is how warm it gets. Apple makes a big deal about the internal cooling mechanism, and while I'm sure the cooling technology is sophisticated, the reality is that the computer still gets pretty toasty, particularly on the underside. I point this out because the advertising hype led me to believe that this computer was somehow immune to becoming warm (a testament to the power of Apple's marketing!), but in reality that's not quite the case. This shouldn't be a deal breaker. but I wouldn't plan to have this on your lap for long periods of time. Bottom line: Even though this MacBook Pro isn't loaded with lots of new features and functions, I can't find much to complain about. Speed, power, battery life, and capabilities are all rock solid. And that's what's most important, right?

Not a major change from the old Macbook Pro

I have now had the chance to use this new Macbook Pro (16 g ram) side by side with my 2012 Macbook Pro (8 g ram) for a couple of weeks. Physically, the 2017 model is lighter than the 2012 model. The screen on the 2017 seems slightly smaller that the 2012 model. Both have retina displays, but I can't tell a big difference between them. The battery does seem to work as advertised. While working throughout the day, (typing, wireless internet operating, NO bluetooth, using the internet, using Word, Excel, and listening to the radio via the MBP) it will last up to 10 hours. My older MBP can no longer do that. Battery degradation will only allow it to go about 5-6 hours. There is a different feel to the new Mac as compare to the old. The new keyboard has keys that are not as high physically on the deck, and seem to take a little more effort on your keystroke. This seems unimportant unless you type a lot, which I do. Currently, I prefer the old keyboard to the new, but I have no doubt that my typing skills will adapt to the new keyboard. The touch pad is much larger on the new MBP than the old, which is nice if you do not rely on a mouse. The new MacBook has the new touch bar. Can be handy, but you will need to get used to reaching up to use it. Nice addition to the MBP. It is interesting how the task bar changes depending on the application in use. The new MBP has 4 thunderbolt connections. This is very unhandy if you need USB ports (ex. to attach your Super Drive), or card reader. The thunderbolt ports may be the future and I bought this newest MBP with that in mind, but it would have been nice if Apple had supplied at least one dongle for older USB devices. What I have been concerned about is the fact that this 2017 MBP doesn't seem to work any faster than the old 2012 MBP. Identical programs on the machines do not load any faster or respond any quicker on the 2017 model. Safari seems slow on both machines. Annoying quirks are that Excel and Adobe PDF programs have suddenly started appearing on startup for no apparent reason. Not a big deal to close them, but why are they starting in the first place? I have not made any changes to the start up routine. This is something that has started in the last week. Never had this happen on the older MBP. In regard to email, (this may be due to the High Sierra OS/Apple mail), the new MBP deletes all emails that are more than one week old from the inbox. Very annoying. My old MBP (running Mavericks) does not do this. Emails in my inbox on the Mavericks system do not self delete. I have tried to fix this via AppleCare, but with no luck so far. I have owned Apple products for several years and my current minor dislikes of the new MBP will fade as they did when I changed from my old computer to the 2012 MBP. For me, Apple products have been reliable, and assuming you get a knowledgeable person on the other end, Apple's Applecare is very easy to work with.

I didn't need to read any reviews to know that I'd love this computer! I've always loved Apple's computers and this one didn't disappoint. It's always fast, fluent, and never any problems. Yes, they may be expensive, but they're worth it. Just think, the other operating system is 1/4-1/2 the price but they don't last near as long as Mac's do! I have a 2008 MacBook and it still runs good!

I’m so glad I bought my MacBook Pro. I had been waiting for a good deal to come through and I finally did. I use it almost every day. I like that I can message people from my laptop. I got the 15” and I’m so glad I did. I saw the 13” and it would be too small to work on. The laptop is a little heavier that I thought but it’s okay. When typing it’s loud but I don’t know if that’s just me or not. I enjoy having the touchbar, it’s just like my iPhone.

Best quality in a laptop. Bought this specifically for DJ program. Fast and works great. Yes it’s pricey but, you get your money’s worth. Other laptop hinge broke after 2 years and was always freezing. Great quality. Graphics are phenomenal. I love the touch bar but, I would’ve liked more memory in it’s place for the price. I plan on having it a long time. I see a desktop in my future. Either way you won’t be sorry.

I just recently purchased this new laptop for schooling. It has not let me down. There was a change in the keyboard from previous models. The keys are slighty larger then the previous model and they keys are shorter so there is less travel distance. The screen is crisp and sharp. Audio quality is excellent. Computer is thin and fairly light weight. I would encourage it for those considering a computer for college.

Great fast processor and beautiful design and screen. Only problem is the touchbar gets a little annoying and you have to buy expensive and ugly bulky adapters to even plug in a USB much less any other peripheral that you may need. But if you need the latest and greatest for editing or any other professional workflow that may be the least of your worries. Overall its another great computer from Apple with some unnecessary costly upgrades.
