Customers are saying

Customers recognize the MacBook Pro's ease of use, performance, and battery life as significant strengths, with many praising its lightweight design and favorable price point. However, some users express concerns regarding the hard drive's limitations and the amount of RAM. A few also mention challenges with heat generation and operating system compatibility. Overall, the positive feedback on usability and performance outweighs the negative comments on specific components.

I am a student on a limited budget so I did a lot of research before deciding to buy a Mac. I knew I wanted a Macbook but was not sure whether the Pro or Air would be better. I talked to representatives at my local Apple store several times to see what would be best for me. I knew that for me to spend so much money on a laptop, the laptop would have to be excellent. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with my purchase. I didn't give it 5 stars just because I could easily get a PC for half the price and the operating system has a few differences that I find annoying. But overall, I do recommend it. I have a large iTunes library with music, videos, apps, and books and it all fit while my laptop still being fast. Because I am a student I store a lot of documents too and I have had no problems with the MacBook Pro being slow. I've had my MacBook Pro for about three weeks now and I definitely prefer it to a PC. Up until recently I have always bought PC's (both for my laptops and desktops) but I dislike the Windows 8 operating system and a lot of my friends recommended Mac's so I decided to look into it. Normally when I buy a computer I don't do a lot of research beforehand but with this computer I did months of research. I talked to friends, people at the Apple store, read many many reviews online, and looked at promotional information from Apple. I decided that as long as it ran as fast as my current PC desktop it would be worth it. I did buy a bluetooth mouse though because I prefer an external mouse to the mousepad. I think the external mouse was a good buy for me but if I had to I could use the mousepad. It is definitely better than most I have found on a laptop. The major downside for me, other than price, for the MacBook is how different some aspects of the operating system is. My last laptop only had a battery life of 1-2 hours but this one has a much longer battery life. The MacBook Pro is a little heavy to lug around often but it runs really well. In the future I may buy the MacBook Air and see how it performs in comparison. I don't use my MacBook Pro for games very much so I can't say how it would run for games but for the type of person who mostly uses it for internet surfing and documents it is a great buy and a great machine.

I can't believe all the whining about how old this is! It comes with the latest software, the OS is El Capitan, it has the 2.5ghz dual core processor with the 2.0 turbo boost it get up to 3.1ghz in speed, if this is to old for you get the latest one with 2.7ghz speed for double what this costs. I installed 16 gigs 55$ and a SSD HD 43$ Traded in my 13.3 white macbook made in 2008 and got 128$ and walked out paying 971$. It takes 52 seconds to boot to the desktop and with the SSD HD it boots in 14 seconds. There is only 4 Mac Pros that have 16 gigs and the cheapest one is 1600$. I like this one because I want the CD/DVD player, its the only one they sale with it. If you trust all your documents stored online then more power to ya! Those crying about how screwed up this MBP is; it is because they just converted over from PC, hey when anything is new to you it's going to be a little difficult, I hated Apple as well until I learned the OS, I was a windows fan for 30yrs before windows had windows. I went to Linux OS which helps you learn Apple because they are pretty similar. Don't blame it on the MacBook, it does everything you tell it to and it even tells you when your wrong just don't take offense to it.

    Great, but hardware issues

Macintosh computers are always going to be more expensive. you pay for the name. Believe me, these same specs, or better even, can be had on a PC for literally $1000.00 less. I purchased this for school, because the user interface on Mac is so amazing. The ability to quickly scroll through screens, and multi touch gestures are an amenity that I needed. FAN: When I say hardware glitches, I mean it. All macbook pro's have had reported the same problem I have had. One, or both, of the internal cooling fans will die on you. Every model has this problem. Mine gave out after only 4 months of use, and mild gaming. I did not over clock. The fan in the 15" and 17" are replaceable, but not in the 13". In order to fix the problem, you have to go to a retail store and have them fix it. That is a guaranteed week without your machine. BODY: The computer also tends to get hot, which is not good if the fans aren't working. The aluminum body is awesome, but it conducts heat like none other. Typically, its hot enough around the bottom of the screen to burn you. Although the manual says that it complies with regulations, I don't see how. The heat happened before the fan went out and after the replacement was put in. I can assure you, that the heat is excessive. AIRPORT: Also, a common flaw is that the airport card tends to give out as well. This happens over about 2 years. If you constantly use your airport, please buy the (expensive) Apple Care protection plan. SPEAKERS: When it comes to speakers, This 13" is lagging. The sound isn't amazing, but typically, if you're listening to something, you'll have headphones or a system that you can plug into. KEYBOARD: it is nice and comfy, but gets dirty easily. The oils stick to the keys. Weekly cleaning usually does the trick. WARNING: Latex or rubber keyboard covers for this will make the keys worse than your fingers. I had one, and after about a month of use, I removed it to clean the top, and the rubber had left residue on the keys that took a lot of soap to remove. In some places I had to use a delicate cleaner of diluted alcohol. RAM: Standard RAM on this machine is perfect. If you want to upgrade feel free. the specs claim only to support 8G, but they are capable of handling 16G. I don't see the need for 16G with only an i5, but again, feel free. Know this, The screws on this machine are super super tiny. I have a precision kit for working on laptops, and it is too big to fit the screws. I had to special order a precision set for watch making to even get close to the screws on this. You have to pull off the entire bottom panel, there is not access panel on the unibody model. Camera: Amazing MIC: Amazing POWER CORD: Tends to fail. I have replaced mine twice within the first year of purchase. I have not seen or heard of this problem in the larger models, but the 65W adapter for this is a common fail. Take extreme care to preserve the life of this charger, and be aware that it is possible you will have to buy a new one ($75). SCREEN: Glossy, and awesome! The screen is flawless and compared to retina display, there is little difference. The retina display has a little bit more brightness to it, but the clarity is exactly the same. The screen does have a flaw in the system. Around the edge of the screen is a rubber gasket. That gasket is easily dislodged and can be very pricey to fix. And no, its not covered in the warranty. TRACKPAD: The glass touch pad is great! Apple went above and beyond with the pad and enabled multi-touch gestures that really allow usability on this machine to surpass any technology of the past. Access to all of your documents from simple gestures may be the greatest invention of all time. Other than those issues, the computer preforms as a Mac should. I have no other complaints, and I enjoy using this computer everyday. Again, after 6 months or so, run extended diagnostics, and make sure your fan is working.

I paid 900 on sale. Had it for a week then returned it. This is a 2012 model still being sold in 2014. Very outdated, and for a little more, you can have the retina version with an ssd drive and double the ram. Like I said, returned it in a week and got the retina version for a little more and couldn't be any happier.

I bought this Macbook Pro as a replacement for my 2008 Macbook aluminum unibody. Maybe I have large photo library which affect the performance. I found this MBP wasn't much faster. Even I could upgrade a SSD driv but it will void warranty. I returned this one and bought another MacBook Pro with SSD drive and retina display.
