Customers are saying

Customers recognize the MacBook Pro's ease of use, performance, and battery life as significant strengths, with many praising its lightweight design and favorable price point. However, some users express concerns regarding the hard drive's limitations and the amount of RAM. A few also mention challenges with heat generation and operating system compatibility. Overall, the positive feedback on usability and performance outweighs the negative comments on specific components.

I will never shop at Best Buy again. The Geek Squad was awful, the manager was rude. Chase bank stopped payment on the check.

amazing machine, completely worth steep price

this is an impeccable machine that is perfect for any scenario. it is very quick. you really feel the 1200 dollar price tag when you're using it. when building it, you can tell there wasn't a penny wasted, the touch of all the high end materials like the smooth brush metal really appeal to your senses, unlike a pc. this laptop is quite, and with its slim design looks rather cool sitting on a nice desk or at a coffee table at your nearest starbucks. the processing system is unbelievably advanced and up to date. on the down side, when using this computer i seem to always have to plug it in before long. it has a short battery life but makes up for it in performance. also, the lag is very noticeable when you have many windows open or are doing several things at one time, as well with light gaming and, in my experiences, google chrome and pandora. the layout is very modern and easy to use, you will not regret buying this shocking computer!!!(:

This Macbook has everything I need. I bought the retina model and returned it for this model and I made a good choice! the non retina is perfect for my needs. No need for a super HD screen. This screen has stunning images and besides I can upgrade in the future. A great buy!!!

Great Mac for first time PC to Mac Migration

This is my first mac. The reason for switching to mac now is mainly because of the next OS X Mountain Lion which is going to bring greater iCloud integration to all Mac devices. Now, that I own an iPhone and iPad, I think it will be great to have a mac to have all contents seamlessly synced with each other. Of course there is a bit of learning when it comes to keyboard shortcuts but after using it for a few hours, I am pretty comfortable with it. Most people would get surprised by this but i did notice some laggy performance when using some CPU intensive apps like iMovie, iPhoto etc simultaneously with other apps. But, after a few days of usage the lag is completely gone. May be it is a mac thing :-) Great purchase for a first mac computer.

I had been saving to purchase this laptop for a while and I never took the plunge until I found the Black Friday deal. The less-than-$900 price just couldn't be beat. Besides that, this laptop is fabulous and is everything I already knew it was. The shipping was quick, since I opted for expedited shipping; the packaging was very neat and sturdy as well. The delivery is very reliable due to a signature being required and constant email and text updates being available.

After having a bad experience with an HP Envy after 3 weeks of purchasing it I decided to opt out the cash and get the Macbook. Best decision. Its fast, lightweight, easy to set up. I like how it likes everything up together. Highly recommend getting a Macbook if you are in the market for a new laptop.

OS X Lion, not Mountain Lion

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This Macbook is just like any other Macbook, except updated to have faster internals in the classic Apple way. The only reason I'm writing this review is I purchased this item online last night (10/1/12) and picked it up from the store. When I opened it this morning it has OS X 10.7 installed, which is OS X Lion, not Mountain Lion as advertised. If you're really looking to get Mountain Lion pre-installed on this machine, you may want to make sure they check it at the store before you leave. My review is also marked that I wouldn't recommend this to a friend, but only because I'd generally steer them to a cheaper alternative unless they truly needed an Apple product. If they needed OS X for some reason, then this would be one of my recommendations.

Moved from a PC, and not looking back!

Always a PC user, I failed to see the advantage to purchasing a product showcasing the OSX operating system. Until I came to college, I had little experience with it. Using my friend's MacBooks presented a learning curve for me at first, but once I learned the ins and outs of the operating system - I had to have one for myself. While I consider myself fairly tech-savvy it does take time to learn a new operating systems. This computer handles everything I throw at it (including multitasking Photoshop CS6, Safari, and Microsoft Office) without hesitation. Battery life for a system with a Core i5 and this form factor is excellent. I also love the light sensitive display and backlit keyboard, providing convenience and conserving battery life. The flexibility to still have an optical drive is nice as well, which will soon be discontinued in future models. If you are looking to purchase a new computer, please consider an Apple product. I love mine more than I ever thought I would, and know it will last for years!

Great laptop. I give it 5 stars, however if you are a college student/traveler i would suggest getting either the newer model with a retina display or the latest air due to the fact that this isn't the lightest laptop out there and the retina display is lighter and thinner, as well as the macbook air. If you don't mind carrying around a bit of weight with you, then this laptop is great and you won't regret your purchase.

A great Mac for a PC price

For those who are thinking of getting a used Mac because of price, check this out first. If you do not have the skills to upgrade it yourself, find a friend who does. You will be able to match the performance of a $1800+ MacBook Pro with just a few things 1. SSD 2. 16GB Ram 3. 16GB jump drive or SD card to transfer your OS (unless you do cloud backup). First, I bought this when it was on sale in April 2016 for $899. The main use I wanted was for graphic design (yeah I hear you all saying it's not good enough#. For another $90 I put a 240 GB Samsung 850 EVO NAND SSD, and for a mere $65 I upgraded with crucial RAM to 16GB! After those upgrades the system has had no issue running Affinity Design and other software. What is nice about this system is that they have changed basically nothing since 2012! This means 00 Phillips head screws for the case and two Torx T6 for the hard drive. The total upgrade time was about 10 minutes on hardware and a couple hours to reinstall the OS. Also since this is an older version it still has a CD/DVD drive built in, which means no lugging around an external. Further, since it comes with El Capitan and has BLE #blue tooth 4# new accessories such as Magic Trackpad 2 and Magic Keyboard 2 work with it. I LITERALLY CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HOW GOOD A DEAL THIS IS FOR A NEW MACBOOK PRO. With just the couple upgrades listed #which there are plenty of videos online for "how to do"# you will have a MacBook Pro that competes with the new versions. I hope that sways some people away from buying a used MacBook #as you really don't know what you are getting#.

This is my first MacBook Pro, and although the price was a little hard to justify- as soon as I opened the box I knew I made a great choice. It is easy to use, fast, and the display is great. I don't know why I didn't switch to a Mac before now- but I know I will not be going back to PC.

    best family of laptops

I have a 13" MBP that I purchase in June of 2011 and it is a work horse the only thing that I have done is that I changed from 4gb to 8 gb and it still works as great as the day it was purchase, you know minus some bruises here and there. In the meantime I have been buying different brands of Window base laptops for the family that we keep throwing away and loosing money, so when my kids needed replacements again we decided to go with this one for one and an air for the other one. And I just acquire the top of the line 15" RMPO that came out on Oct. 22nd. And now I have peace of mind that we don't have to try to figure out why the error messages are on, and having to buy anti-virus and still have a slow laptop. So to summarize this is an investment that you will not have to keep repeating. So do yourself a favor get one. And if you find it a little difficult to learn, the apple store offer hour classes for free.I would still buy it at BB because at the apple store you don't get a penny off.

Great Computer (if you have the money)

Coming from a Mac Mini 2010 model, this computer is much more convenient and twice as fast. Excellent for students and anyone who demands the best. If you primarily surf the web, check out the iPad or a windows laptop. This laptop is suitable for the average gaming needs and all of your everyday tasks. Only someone who works with extremely intensive applications would need a more expensive model. Everything about this model is perfect for the average person and will remain that way for years to come. An upgrade every few years is not necessary with Apple computers. My Mac Mini is still speeding along, being used as a Minecraft server and web surfing device. --->Pro Tip<---- -A Solid State Drive (SSD) will make these MacBooks fly. I plan on installing one when I get enough spare money for it.

Lots of bang for your buck!

Personally, I'm not an artist, and only use my MBP around the house. So, increased portability and a Retina display did not appeal to me with the newer models. This particular 13" MacBook Pro did, however. Considering the purchase price and spending under $150 to upgrade a few things -- the performance of this unit is simply outstanding! It will easily keep up with the newer Retina models with a few DIY upgrades. Mine, even beats most Mac-Mini's in every category. This machine also has a nice solid feel. Using it feels like driving a quality vehicle. Lid is firm on the hinges, the keyboard is well spaced and gives good feedback as keys are depressed & the trackpad feels nice. I can certainly tell the difference when using the 13" MBP for an hour, then switching to a notebook with cheaper build-quality…. It's like going from a brand new luxury/sport sedan to a beater. The biggest complaint about this unit is bulkiness. It weighs almost 5lbs (that's heavy for a portable now!)! And it can be annoying when toting the MBP around. For a mobile user, or student needing to carry a laptop for extended periods, an Air might be a better choice. However, for a person that is looking for portability around the house, and maybe just to and from the office, this is a great buy. Even with so much to offer for experienced admins, techies, and programmers Apple still manages to keep it simple: 1- open box/plug MBP in 2 - connect to Wifi 3 - update 4 - reboot ready to go…….

Buggiest Mac I've owned in years

    Posted .

I have used various Macs through the years at home and at work. Power PCs, iMacs, Powerbooks, and Macbook Pros. My Macbook Pro 13" has been the buggiest Mac I've ever used. Slow to start up. After it is up and running, sometimes hanging completely for no good reason, even though I have hardly any applications installed or running. I get lots of spinning beach balls merely attempting basic tasks. I hate to see what this machine will do with something that actually stresses it out like Photoshop or video processing. The one good feature is the i5 processor. I could definitely tell there was a bump in speed in loading web pages given the same internet speed. I feel like Apple is resting on their laurels with their latest offerings. You pay through the nose and the quality seems to be languishing. Safari itself seems to be a CPU hog because when I go into Activity Monitor it is usually eating up CPU even when idle. It also runs very hot which is never good for the longevity of hard drives. I will consider something else the next time I need a new computer.
