What is Apple thinking...other than it does not want anyone to use the iPad as a laptop. The iPad connects to the keyboard via a single magnetic connection in the middle. The iPad comes off the keyboard easily, so easily that it kept falling apart in my arms. Thanks to Apple and their defective case design, my iPad fell to the ground and the glass broke. It had to be completely replaced because the corner was damaged as well as the screen. I had Apple Care, thank goodness, but still cost me a nominal charge. I returned this keyboard. Do NOT buy it!

This is not a keyboard cover. Cannot use as a cover will not fit to cover.

Thought this would help the iPad replace my laptop but it is not as convenient as I expected.

I like other keyboards better because of the key stroke feeling.

There was no bqacklight; no way to turn the sound up and down. No extra’s. It was thin and that was the best feature about it. Actually that was the reason I bought it. I was so excited it was so thin and light that I did not pay attention to what it did not have. That is the reason I returned it...

The apple smart keyboard for the iPad pro is absolutely horrible. I already had to replace it once and thought maybe thats' normal but now it's again not working after less than 9 months. When you are spending over $1200 on an iPad pro as well as buying the care plan for $249 which does not include the keyboard. you would think they would to a better job I own all apple products: four iPads, 4 apple phones , two iMacs and one mac book pro not to mention I still use my iPod I am pretty upset . I love apple!!! but this keyboard stuff is the absolute worst. its just egregious

I’m a very early adopter of the ipad. I have loved every single one. What I have hated is the this keyboard. I’m now on keyboard number three and now it is dead. Yep this review is late. I bought this in May of 2019 but now in Aug of 2020 the keyboard no longer works, it is the same pattern as the others. They work great and then over time the disconnect periodically and the just stop connecting. This is a 150 dollar item. There are lots of similar comments online. Yes I is it a lot but I don’t abuse it. For a $150 it should last more than 18 months at a time.

Not too bad would have been better with backlit keys.

Returned it after a week, my opinion was there are better keyboards out there

After few months the Smart Keyboard it won’t respond , I went to apply store but I needed my receipt to get a new one but here is a problem this keyboard is a year old just be careful make sure is a new product . Check serial number and it will tell you how old is the apple products.

I returned this product for an apple magic keyboard. I wanted a different color of smart cover other than black, and it also strained my shoulder muscles and eyes to be so close to the screen. With the magic keyboard you get a wireless keyboard that you can use from whatever distance is comfortable to you.

This is one of the worst products I have ever purchased from Apple. Terribly disappointed. The keyboard worked reasonably well for the first year, though connection issues happened from time to time. Not long after the first year, it stopped working altogether and now the iPad won’t recognize the keyboard at all. The one year warranty is expired and Apple’s proposed solution is for me to buy another one. Don’t waste your money.

It’s an alright keyboard. There’s isn’t much, if any key travel. There is no command row. Although the smart connector makes this an option to purchase. I was better off purchasing another (cheaper) option for a keyboard, and you might be too.

I upgraded to folio pro11” and have been thrilled.

This was amazing while it worked- flip it open, take out the keypad, and boom- you're typing, and life is good. It's now been about 18 months and it no longer works... won't connect to the iPad. Not exactly what I was looking for at a cost of $160...

Since I purchased it, this keyboard has intermittently lost contact with the iPad, and needs to be disconnected/reconnected to regain contact. The keys are also not sensitive enough to pick up every tap and typos abound. I should have returned it immediately, but it’s a busy world, so instead I will advise to purchase a different accessory.

The Apple keyboard connection point to the IPAD is not built very strong and is not designed to last. This was a purchase as a replacement keyboard for one that failed just a few months out of warranty. Stuck spending money to replace.

Worked for ~1 yr then you get ‘accessory not supported’ and keyboard becomes unusable. You can step thru support articles to clean the contacts, update iOS, and reboot but none of it will work for long before you have to repeat the same steps again. Don’t bother wasting money on apple keyboard. Get something cheaper from Logitech or other manufacturer that will work and you can replace it if it gives out. Apple care+ states keyboards are covered but good luck trying to get them to honor it!

This item had a high enough failure record that Apple quietly offered a replacement campaign. Unfortunately I didn't learn of it until after the 2 year mark. The failure caused the keyboard to become non responsive with the added bonus of draining the battery. I put some tape on the smart connector and now have most expensive iPad cover ever made. Yay. Wont be getting another and will most likely switch to Surface or Galaxy Tab if the iPad dies. Just not a compelling product anymore.

Unless you are constantly typing, you don’t need this. It’s over priced, makes the iPad heavy, and just feels cheap. Lap typing is uncomfortable, and the keys just don’t have the right feel. Don’t be suckered by Apple on this one. Steer clear.
