This adapter works exactly as needed, and you can chain adapters together if you find yourself needing to connect that legacy Firewire 400 device.

There are some gotchas with this adapter and I have made 3 youtube videos about them: 1. Not working with USB C 3.1 gen 2 SSD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AADSbBEheRw 2. Can still use my elgato dock with mbp 16!

This adapter while somewhat expensive works great so I can connect my new MacBook to my old hard drives.
