This adapter works exactly as needed, and you can chain adapters together if you find yourself needing to connect that legacy Firewire 400 device.

There are some gotchas with this adapter and I have made 3 youtube videos about them: 1. Not working with USB C 3.1 gen 2 SSD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AADSbBEheRw 2. Can still use my elgato dock with mbp 16!

I use it connect Thunderbolt Display to MacBook Pro 16" and works great - video and all ports on the Thunderbolt Display function using this adapter.
