    I bought this to have as a backup for my work if our wifi wasn't working so that I could hardwire the internet in to my laptop. While I'm glad that I have it as a backup, if you're wavering as to whether to buy it or not, I would say wait and see just how often you actually need to plug an ethernet cable in to your computer for internet. Keep in mind that it will take up one of your mini display ports to be used too if that would make a difference to you.

    In order to allow both WiFi and LAN transfers every Macbook needs this accessory (i.e. a gigabit Ethernet port should be a builtin like most notebooks).

    Purchased this for use in my ACER which does not have an Ethernet connector. Product shipped fast but won't work on my Thunderbolt connection. Nothing on the package, description, nor instructions explain whether this is Windows 8.0 compatible. I am at a small camp in Afghanistan and can not get to a post office to try to return this item . Will probably just have to eat it unless I find someone with a MAC System. I am sure it is a very good item for systems which are compatible.

    If you have a new MacBook and no wifi you need this accessory. Simple to use and lets you plug internet cable into you Mac if you don't have wifi.
