Names for CEC

The Apple TV Remote would not turn on my LG smart TV. After over an hour on the phone with Apple Support, the support person and her supervisor referred me to LG support to determine how to connect HDMI CEC (Consumers Electronic Control). Another internet search revealed that different manufacturers have different names for CEC. LG calls it "SIMPLINK". Once I knew the name, everything went smoothly.
