I purchased this because the native OS on my aging TCL Roku TV has been getting slower and slower over the last few years. This is a huge upgrade on every front. The speed with which apps and media load is nearly instant. The responsiveness to button presses is instant. One big upgrade that I didn’t anticipate is how much nicer it is to use a device that isn’t plastered with advertisements.

This is a great upgrade for our main television. It is easy to use and has eliminated the annoying buffering we were experiencing with the native system on the TV. I especially like using Siri to find our favorite shows and the seamless transitions it provides when I switch from blue tooth headphones to the TV soundbar.

I bought this for my parents based on my own experiences and they are slowly warming up to it.
The tvOS is a simple yet elegant experience. Due to the nature of the platform it's my belief that streaming providers have no choice to build in a very standardized way. As a result many of the apps (certainly the big ones) function and are laid out in similar ways. No more trying to remember exactly how one app works versus another. Or at least not as much.
From a cost perspective these things are expensive, maybe even unreasonably so. However, I previously used Fire TV Sticks and found myself replacing them annually due to critical issues or poor performance. I purchased the one I am reviewing for my parents but I have my own that I've owned for a few years each and both have stood the test of time. I don't even have to restart them weekly or daily like the Fire TVs to keep them snappy.
The integration with the Apple ecosystem is of course first class and if you do Fitness+ workouts and have a watch those classes are never better than when I can watch them on my living room TV.
In tvOS 17 you can now use your phone to find your remote if you misplace it which is handy.

This device has a pretty clear quality and loads the app faster than my old smart tv streaming devices. But it also comes with some bugs and some difficulties on using a few apps.
Here are some of the things I like about this device. As I mentioned above, high quality performance. Also, the ability to cast my iPhone to the TV screen. I also like that I can use my iPhone as a keyboard to type on the screen specially when I download app that requires user ID and password. Keeps my password private.
One thing I don’t like it is that the remote doesn’t have a home button so I have keep pressing the back arrow to go back to the Home Screen. Other option is pressing the Apple TV icon on the remote then press the back button.
Other thing that I think they need to improve is adding the ability to create a playlist on iMusic app on this device.
Overall, I recommend this device and if improvements are made, it will be great.

I didn’t realize my image quality could look so amazing. If you get an Apple TV I recommend getting an updated hdmi so you can fully get the best image. I can also stream my steam games to the tv. If you do stream your games make sure to put the tv on game mode to help with latency issues. You can also use your iPhone as a remote. Put your AirPods in and watch tv quietly. FaceTime on your tv. It’s really cool. Worth it.

This is the first Apple TV that I have had and so far it is Amazing!, The picture quality is amazing and believe is Fast!! you don't have to wait for nothing is just Fast, i never see something like this before, i have one Fire Stick 4k and the Fire Cube Gen 1 and this one is like 3x faster, the remote is Beautiful, and you can use your Iphone like a remote too, so if you have and iphone, ipad or Macbook. this is the way. 100% Recommended

Have an old Samsung Smart TV and was getting frustrated at how slow and bloated it was. A few apps were also taken off the store (like Steam Link) and some new apps I wanted to use weren't accessible. Did some digging and ended up choosing this since I'm pretty locked into the Apple ecosystem and I feel like I got a brand new TV! The UI is easy to navigate and lightning fast and I love how I can even connect my AirPods to the TV if I wanted to. All the apps are there and there's no ads save for the Apple TV stuff (which is a given).
The remote is great too (being able to speak into it instead of typing) and very response - although sometimes a bit TOO responsive with the top touchpad which can get a bit touch sensitive. Aside from that, best purchase I've made for my TV.

I have a newer Sony OLED smart tv which was overall pretty good until it started having wifi issues almost everyday so I knew I wanted to try something wide. I had a fire tv stick but this is 1000xs better the Apple TV is so fast! I love that I can multitask and switch between different tv apps quickly. Sometimes I'm watching my shows until my husband is ready to watch our shows together. I can have the other show paused already and quickly and easily switch between apps. It's easier to airplay on the Apple TV too. I like that I can watch something on my iPad pause it and continue it on the TV without air playing it. Some apps can do Picture-in-Picture if you want to watch something as you browse but that can be annoying to exit so I rarely use that. The Apple TV actually upscales my HD shows and movies too! I don't use my tvs interface anymore I just turn on the Apple TV And it switched the input automatically. I love that I can use my phone or iPad as a remote and tell Siri to pause, play or turn on the tv (that feature never worked with Alexa). I love the search function to it will search all of your movies and shows on different apps. The Apple TV app is nice too since of you connect Hulu and Max for example it will display all of this continue watching episodes in your list. You can find your continue watching from the Home Screen if you change the settings to be that way. The top row of apps show your recent shows when you hover over the apps. I love the enhance dialogue option, reduce loud sounds and auto captions if you rewind something. Overall I'm really happy I decided to try this out. I thought I would probably return this since it was a lot of money for something like a firestick but I was WRONG! This is an upgrade from my slow TV. My only gripe is my surround sound isn't as loud or full sounding as when I watch things from my the apps on my smartTV. But the benefits are better than the bad. Oh and the touchpad can be customizable I like mine on slow since it's very sensitive or you can turn the touchpad off.

The remote is very high quality and works way better than the top of the line Samsung remote. The Apple hub easily ties in with everything and is essential when setting up a smart home. Most people think this is just Apple TV and a remote. It is not. It’s the entire brain to your smart home.

Didn’t think an upgrade was needed from my original Apple TV 4K but the performance of this one is awesome and the remote took some getting used too, but overall I like it more than the original - feels more solid and comfortable. The picture is of course perfect feeding into my 4K OLED. tvOS should be the standard for home entertainment - great way to consume content.
