    You can't hook up external hard drives or anything without this cord. So typical Mac, you need to buy this if you would like to use anything with a USB.

    It is unfortunate that the new Macs do not have USB ports but it is a necessary evil to smaller weight and size. This item will allow you to plug in USB accessories.

    And this is a good one - it'll let you connect almost anything you need, and is cheaper than the (admittedly more useful) $79 option. Of course, you need to remember to bring it with you if you travel, though you'll probably pack the power adapter anyway if you're gone for a significant length of time.
