Apple Watch Series 1 over Series 2

I bought the 42 mm silver case Series 1 over the Series 2 and saved $100. I bought it for the fitness tracking capabilities, especially the heart rate. It was a great decision as I do not need the new features of the Series 2. The performance of the Series 1 with the upgraded processor is excellent. If you have similar needs to mine, then you can save the money as well. If you are reluctant to spend so much money on a watch, as I was about the Series 2, then do yourself a favor and read this review. The differences that I considered included the following Series 2 features not available on the Series 1: built-in GPS, brighter display, and water resistance. I don’t need the integrated GPS in the watch for I will always have my phone with me when I need GPS. I won’t swim or shower with the phone. I took a chance that the display could be readable when I needed it in sunlight and I was correct. GPS My primary fitness work is outdoors doing fast-paced walking. I am not a runner nor a swimmer. The GPS is only needed when I am walking and I always have my phone because I listen to music during my walks. There is a slight difference between the distance recorded by the app on my phone (Map My Walk by Under Armour) and the app on my watch (Workout app from Apple). It amounts to less than one tenth of a mile after my 3 mile walk. If you require extreme accuracy beyond this, look into it in more detail. For me, I don’t need more than this for my distance and pace calculations for each workout walk. Brighter Display I don’t often need to see my watch in bright sun, but I do use it during my outdoor walks and rely on the information the Workout app on the Series 1 makes available to me during the walk. It displays distance walked, average time per mile, and average heart rate. I love having this information available during the workout and it is very easy to view these values during my walks in direct sunlight. It is easily bright enough for me read each value clearly at a quick glance. I can also read the clock and other displays in sunlight. Notifications with their smaller, dimmer text are challenging, perhaps, but I am not interested in these while outdoors during a workout. Water Resistance This was an easy decision. I do not do exercise while swimming and have never showered with my watch. Conclusion I am extremely happy with my choice of the Series 1 over the more expensive Series 2. My battery life is good for a full day, including my typical 45 minute workout. I wear the watch from waking to bedtime, which is typically 16 hours of wear and frequent use. At the end of the day I usually have slightly over 20% of battery life remaining. The Series 1 works well for me in my fitness routines and as an everyday watch. I wanted the Apple Watch for its tight integration with my iPhone, but I was reluctant to pay the full price of the Series 2. The $100 savings was the difference between my buying the Apple Watch or settling for one of the popular dedicated fitness trackers. Just remember, this is not the original version of the Apple Watch, so don’t get fooled. This is the upgraded, faster processor Series 1 Apple Watch.

It is functional. You can see right away a message or phone call. The looks are kind of ugly. Except when the face of the watch appears every time you take a look to see the time. Battery drains very fast. I need to recharge it twice a day.

I had bought 2 of these, one at Best Buy and another somewhere else. At Best Buy the watch was much more expensive and the recharging cord was very short compared to the watch I purchased at the other place.

I used it quite a bit but once I stop using it so much and tried asking for half of what I paid for it I can't even make that back and it's in prefect condition and I Can't justify buying one again.

I bought this for my girlfriend and she wasn't very happy with it because she didn't know how to use it to its potential so she returned it before she even tried to figure it out .... no manual

Although its great for notifications, the crown gets stuck frequently, I have to flush it with water almost every day. Also the apps don't always sync well with the phone... needs a bit of improvement.

The specifications state that the charger is included, but there was NO charger in the box. My child was very disappointed on Christmas morning because she could not charge her new watch.

So I thought this time around the watch would be better. It is the same as the original just a tad quicker. Really disappointed in Apple right now.

I do like my Apple Watch but it was it did more and I could leave my phone a farther distance from it. Not crazy about the band it comes with it all other bands I have bought have broken.

I feel it should be used independently from the phone for the price. I mainly use it for work, steps, and checking msg's. Luckily I work close to my phone otherwise it would be pointless.

Good product but I wish it was a little faster. I don't like having to wait for apps to load. Sometimes takes 15-20 seconds and by that time, the watch face turns off to save power.

Overall good smartwatch & features but POOR battery life. For the price we pay, they should provide at least 2 to 3 days worth of battery life.

The thought of owning the watch was an initially a great thought but after purchasing it, for what it does and what i need it to do I was better off buying a less expensive brand.

I got this watch as a gift for my birthday. There's some features that I really like but most of them are better used on the iPhone. I would not buy this watch with my own money!

Not a bad product still waiting on that killer app. It not the best smart Watch but it's definitely not the worst, yet it's the one you want to have if you have a iPhone

I wore the Apple Watch for 4 days. In those 4 days I looked at my watch for one thing: to check the time. Everything that I thought I would be able to do on my watch (view apps, type a text, etc.) The watch told me to take out my phone for. If they made the screen bigger and added a keyboard for texting and the ability to be on apps, I would consider repurchasing. But I returned it because I found no more use than what I get out of my regular old Fossil Watch. Which would be telling time.

If you're looking for a gift for someone that wants a watch, buy them a watch. If your recipient wants an extension of their iPhone, then I'm sure that it's great.
