Purchased to upgrade a Win10 laptop from 500gb to 1TB. The supplied CD wouldn't boot, but a CD produced by the program after installation did. Easy workaround. Unexpectedly, the Apricorn cable does NOT make an attached drive appear as a typical USB drive, so its only purpose is cloning. It would be nicer if it could also serve that "dual purpose". The cloning ran for 1.75 hours, encountered some bad blocks on the source and stopped, declaring that the cloning failed. The resulting drive wasn't bootable. (since the cable didn't act as an external USB drive, i wasn't able to see if it was mountable or had any usable data). If the source drive had been perfect, i'm certainly willing to believe that the clone operation would have been successful. But it wasn't, and rescuing systems from beginning disk failure would be one of my primary uses for such a system. (see Clonezilla, below) I was finally able to perform my transfer with Windows' System Image function to an external USB drive, then from the USB drive back into the blank 1 TB drive. System Image also hit the bad blocks and declared a problem, but at least the resulting System Image file did successfully create a fully functional system. If i were to try this as a Clone operation again, i'd revert to my old techniques of using the free Clonezilla package for the Clone (it *can* survive bad blocks on the source drive, and handles them intelligently) and an external USB drive carrier. The only reason i tried the Apricorn system was seeing it included (without cable) with some Western Digital retail kits. Oh, well, a cheap experiment.

Packaged as "Notebook Drive Upgrade Kit"

Same part number, package includes the cable and CD as pictured. It works. Just one thing: The instructions really need to advise running a full "Check Disk" on the source drive first, with both options checked ("automatically fix file system errors" and "scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors"). At the end of my first cloning attempt it errored out because it found bad sectors. Had to fix those and rerun the software. The second time it worked without a hitch and I'm up and running on a new disk drive. Run a "check disk" by opening Computer, select the drive, select Tools tab, click Check Now and then BOTH options. Then reboot, grab coffee or something and wait for an hour or so, if you've got a big drive. I'm giving this product 5 stars because of past professional experience with cloning and "bare-metal recovery". As an IT tech and enterprise manager of 30+ years, I'm very impressed with this user-level product priced less than a fourth of what this capability used to cost. Acronis will cost you $10-$20 more without the necessary cable or box for the new drive. Granted this doesn't have a full list of options (and "select data" is limited, as apparently you cannot discretely select individual folders and files, just the "My" stuff), but for the advertised purpose it's right on the money. If you need to copy an entire 2.5" hard drive for full backup or hardware replacement, this will do exactly that.
