Simple and extremely handy in a pinch.
||Posted .I needed a way to access the data from my old laptop HDD after a Linux upgrade attempt went totally south and I installed a fresh OS on a new SSD. I got this kit since laptops have only a single internal drive bay. This kit ONLY fits 2.5" SATA disks and SSDs. I was surprised that the cable doesn't come with an extra power plug, but apparently even my laptop USB port has enough power to turn the drive. I suspect that won't be the case for 3.5" drives, though. I didn't use the included software...

Perfect HDD/SSD reader
||Posted .Please note that there is no power supply with this cable, and it will work on 2.5 in form factor drives (lab top). Excellent quality, no hiccups, it just works, and the online price was quite a bit better than what it was selling for in the store!

Disappointed
||Posted .I purchased this product to get my photos off my old hard drive because it had crashed. The packaging states that it includes instructions for using it on a MAC. After putting the disk into my CD ROM, I was unable to follow the next step as it did not give me any icons as the directions stated. Now I'm stuck with this kit and having to figure out how to use it to clone everything, since its NON REFUNDABLE. I am able to manually pull each folder from my old hard drive to my current, if its not too big. Unfortunately that'll take quite a long time

Q: QuestionStatement: On the package for this product it says that allowable operating systems are Win XP, 7 or Vista. The Geek folks said that it may not work on Win 8.x or 10 systems. The package also says that the product can not be returned once opened.

- A:Answer I have used it to transfer Windows 10 from mechanical drives to SSD drives on 3 different computers. I also used it to transfer Windows 7 on another laptop. Works great.

Q: QuestionMy Hard Drive was clicking and the desktop computer will not start up. I bought this cable to try and recover the pictures off the desktop hard drive, but when I plug the hard drive and cable into my laptop it doesn't get recognized.
Asked by Mike.
- A:Answer This is only meant for laptop drives. I found out you need a Hard Drive dock for 2.5”/3.5” SATA drives. It has a AC plug because the USB alone doesn’t have enough power for a desktop drive.

Q: QuestionCan I use this to retrieve data off hard drives in laptops that no longer work? The drives are out of the machine already.
Asked by Memyselfandi.
- A:Answer Yes, that’s exactly what I used it for. That’s assuming the hard drive that you are trying to get the data off of still works.

Q: QuestionCan I use this to transfer all data from old desk top hard drive to a new desk top hard drive & how do I connect the devices ?
Asked by Artfulldodger127.
- A:Answer Yes, if the new drive is a 2.5" SSD or HDD. This cable just connects the new drive to a USB port and then you use the included software to duplicate the existing drive on to the new one. After the duplication, you shut down the computer, swap drives and power it back up.

Q: QuestionCan I use this to clone my notebook hard drive to a tower PC?
Asked by annap.
- A:Answer This can be used to clone 1 hard drive to another, HOWEVER, you will still need special software. If you are looking to just move your documents/pictures/bookmarks/ect to the tower already running an existing operating system, there are much easier ways than by cloning. Also keep in mind, the installed drivers on the laptop may not work on the tower. It is best to consult with a professional to ensure a successful transition.
