I am currently cloning my old HDD drive to a SSD which I will be installing in few moments. I recommend this cable and software that comes with it. Easy and simple to use.

I needed a way to access the data from my old laptop HDD after a Linux upgrade attempt went totally south and I installed a fresh OS on a new SSD. I got this kit since laptops have only a single internal drive bay. This kit ONLY fits 2.5" SATA disks and SSDs. I was surprised that the cable doesn't come with an extra power plug, but apparently even my laptop USB port has enough power to turn the drive. I suspect that won't be the case for 3.5" drives, though. I didn't use the included software...

Please note that there is no power supply with this cable, and it will work on 2.5 in form factor drives (lab top). Excellent quality, no hiccups, it just works, and the online price was quite a bit better than what it was selling for in the store!

I purchased this product to get my photos off my old hard drive because it had crashed. The packaging states that it includes instructions for using it on a MAC. After putting the disk into my CD ROM, I was unable to follow the next step as it did not give me any icons as the directions stated. Now I'm stuck with this kit and having to figure out how to use it to clone everything, since its NON REFUNDABLE. I am able to manually pull each folder from my old hard drive to my current, if its not too big. Unfortunately that'll take quite a long time

I've had bad experiences with drive cloners. It seems no matter what, the cloned drive will have problems. I purchased this alongside a 480gb ssd to put in a new laptop I purchased. Of course, the laptop did not have a restoration disc or even a Windows 8.1 licence key anywhere on the bottom (I could have downloaded the Windows 8.1 installer directly from Microsoft website and loaded it this way). It was purely on the recovery partition. Originally I was only going to clone the recovery partition but I figured it would save me time to do the entire drive if it worked. So I just cloned everything. And I have to be honest, I am surprised how easy it was and how well everything works. It's been almost a month and I have been using the laptop for gaming and work.I have had ZERO issues. The SSD vs the 5400RPM hard drive that was in it is like night and day. Load and boot times are fast. Battery life appears to have increased if only a little bit since the SSD's are less power hungry that the HDDs of old. If you need a good cloner, believe it or not, this is it. Get it.

I purchased this product as a way to access data from the hard drive of my old laptop. When the motherboard croaked I was worried about having to go through a lot of trouble to get back all my data. However, one of the Best Buy Geek Squad members showed me this device and I was very happy to see that it was affordable. In order to use the device for this purpose, simply remove the old hard drive (remove a couple screws from the bottom of the laptop, remove the access cover, and disconnect the data cable), and connect it to another computer via this handy device. You can now access all the data from the old hard drive. Another nice thing about this product is that you can use it with any old laptop hard drive for data backup. It's a lot cheaper than going out and purchasing an external hard drive, especially if you have a few old ones lying around anyway.

Work great to clone or copy your hard drive to a new one. Great way to upgrade your hard drive. The only drawback is that it won’t work on Bitlocker encrypted hard drives.

I bought this cable to replace a couple optical drives with ssd's in various laptops. The included software works for windows only. The software worked great cloning the windows drive to the new ssd. However, and this is not the fault of the company, there is no software support for OSX. In previous versions of OSX prior to Yosemite the built in Disc Utility was capable of cloning the drive. Disc Utility in Yosemite didn't allow the cloning of the drive. Many people are not happy with how Apple ruined that program me included. I had to rely on a outside program to clone the drive. Not a deal breaker but people should be aware of this drawback.

I purchased a hard drive for my desktop computer and at the same time told the Best Buy employee that I needed to clone the drive that I had. The employee pointed me to this cable. When I got home and installed the disk on my desktop, and hooked up the new drive to this cable it would not power up the drive. I did a search on the internet and found that a desktop drive needed more power than a laptop drive. This cable would not transfer the correct amount of power. Out $30!! It is for a LAPTOP as the package states. However there was NO PLACE on the package that said it would not work for a desktop. I presume it would work just fine on a laptop.

This is a very convenient little data transfer kit especially when on the go. Very compact so you can throw it in your backpack, tool box, or place in an external hard drive case - as I did - to protect it. As IDE is pretty much obsolete these days, this is a perfect USB powered/data kit for today's SATA drives. With this, there's no need to lug around a powered IDE/SATA transfer kit. You just plug it into a USB port and the fast USB 3 kit does the rest. What would make this device perfect would be an mSATA and an m.2 SATA adapter. But this device is perfect as described for SATA HDD and SATA SSD drives.

We use this tool to clone customer hard drives when we upgrade their systems to SSD (see our other reviews for SSD). This works for PC and MAC. Bootable disc software is included and allows perfect duplication of an existing drive without affecting software activations. In fact, this kit allows you to clone a drive even when the original drive is larger than the replacement, so long as your original free space does not exceed the new drive's usable space. You can also just use the included cable to read and write, to and from internal drives via USB - and is USB backward compatible.

I picked this up so that I could migrate my old HD to my new SSD. Turns out I didn't really need this, it just made things a little simpler. The software that came with it could have been better and allow me to just transfer my operating system. The only reason I wouldn't recommend this is because you can get the job done without spending the money on this item. IT DOES WORK AND IT DOES HELP if you're new to this type of thing.

I got this to copy data to my new SSD. It worked good, just not in my ubs3 port. I dont know if that was because of the samsung software i used that came with my SSD. I didn't try their software. this made the change from drives very simple. I say grab this if you're upgrading drives or changing drives, this will save you time and headaches.

This system has been flawless, easy-to-use, and fast. I have used this to mirror my existing SATA (spinning) hard disk drives to newly-purchased Samsung SSDs for 3 of my computers. I've had no previous experience doing this, and each of 3 drives that I replaced were hugely successful. All of the information on the drive made it to the new destination, and the software was very easy to use and understand. The USB 3.0 to SATA cable is quality-made. Other than the cable being a touch short, I have nothing but good things to say about this product. It will continue to come in useful for years to come.

Had to buy this to transfer files from my Mac OEM hard drives to a SSD drive I replaced it with. The actual device was great. The CD it came with was useless. You would think it had its own software for migration. It only had instructions on where to download 3rd party software. LOL. Anyway, I’m still giving 5 stars for the actual device.
