The FX30 captures stunning images with 6K oversampling and a true cinematic look. Its compact size lets you take it anywhere, and sophisticated AF and stabilization makes advanced filmmaking more accessible than ever.

  • New 20.1 MP Exmor R APS-C image sensor: Sony’s new back-illuminated 20.1 megapixels APS-C Exmor R CMOS sensor (Super 35 format) achieves high sensitivity, low noise, and wide dynamic latitude. 6K oversampling compresses a vast amount of information into 4K output.
  • S-Cinetone for a cinematic look: The FX30 includes S-Cinetone, the same color science that produces the highly regarded FX9 and FX6 color and skin tones. It's easy to achieve a beautiful cinematic look without post-production grading.
  • Various Log shooting modes: Cine EI offers wide latitude and the highest image quality. Cine EI Quick automatically switches the base ISO according to the selected Exposure Index. Flexible ISO provides the greatest flexibility for exposure settings.
  • User LUTs: Up to 16 user LUTs can be imported into the camera via memory card. Custom LUTs can be applied to the LCD monitor and HDMI output for an accurate preview of the final image. LUTs can also be embedded in clips to facilitate post-production processing.
  • Dual Base ISO and a 14+ stop range: The Dual Base ISO (ISO 800 and ISO 2500) allows you to maximize the dynamic range. A wide 14+ stop latitude makes it easier to shoot top-quality images in just about any shooting situation.
  • Log recording for smooth cinematic quality: The S-Log3 gamma curve has been designed for smooth gradations, and to achieve cinematic image quality. Both S-Log3 and S-Gamut3.Cine offers high-quality color reproduction over a wide latitude during post processing.

This a beast of a camera!

If you’re looking to get into cinema cameras, the FX30 is such a great option. Literally everything you need for cinema set up in this compact style body like Dual Base ISO, Timecode, loadable LUTs, and the XLR top handle. For a cinema camera I’d say the learning curve isn’t too steep either. You can pick up and shoot with this camera and achieve some pretty stellar results. For the value, the FX30 is hard to beat.

Fantastic camera even for a beginner

[DISCLAIMER: I have no other frame of reference since this is my first camera] I mainly bought this camera because I had an upcoming project for university centered around making a short film. Although an expensive first camera for a pure beginner, I wanted to look for something I could grow into. I had a lot saved up from freelance 3D work and decided to bite the bullet after doing a ton of research. As someone who's never handled a real camera before, I found the FX30 to be easy to learn and shoot with even while using it manually (I'm sure using it in auto would be even easier). I paired it with a tamron 17-70 f2.8, and the picture quality turned out fantastic. The short film was received greatly, and I can't help but thank this camera for being my main workhorse. There's a lot more to learn, but I am excited to continue using the FX30 for the foreseeable future

    Game-Changing Cinema Camera

I bought the Sony FX30 mainly for video work and it has been an amazing upgrade. The image quality is extremely sharp and the colors look great straight out of the camera. Once you start shooting in S-Log3, the footage really comes to life in editing and gives you a lot of flexibility. Autofocus is one of my favorite parts. It stays locked on the subject even when moving, which makes filming much easier and less stressful. I also appreciate that the camera is built specifically for video. The buttons are well placed, it feels solid in hand, and I have not had any overheating issues even during longer shoots. For the size and price, the FX30 delivers professional-level results. It is a great choice for content creators, filmmakers, or anyone serious about video. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to step up their production quality.
