Equipped with a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor supported by our BIONZ XR image processing engine and advanced AI processing unit, the camera offers high sensitivity, wide latitude, and 33 MP*1 resolution, giving ambitious cinematic visionaries all the tools they need.
• 15+ stops dynamic range in Log mode with Dual base ISO (800/4000): The FX2’s full-frame sensor produces footage with smooth, natural gradations thanks to 15+ stops of latitude when recording with S-Log3*2, ensuring even high-contrast scenes are captured in full detail. Base ISO for S-Log3 capture can be set to 800 or 4000, and the camera supports S-Gamut3/S-Gamut3.Cine color gamuts for broad compatibility. That all adds up to maximum editing efficiency when shooting with multiple cameras.
• Flexible Log shooting modes — Flexible ISO, Cine EI, and Cine EI Quick: For creative flexibility, there are three modes available for Log recording — Flexible ISO, Cine EI, and Cine EI Quick — with Cine EI widely used in professional filmmaking for footage shot with post-production*3*4 in mind. Based on the shooting environment, choose a base ISO of either 800 or 4000 to maintain maximum latitude throughout the shoot.
• Angle-adjustable EVF: Keep focused on shooting even in bright or distracting environments, thanks to an OLED viewfinder with approximately 3.68 million dots. Magnification is 0.70x (50mm lens, infinity focus, -1m-1 diopter), and the angle of view and eyepoint are optimized for video recording. The viewfinder itself can be rotated from 0 ° to +90° for easy viewing at just about any angle, and the eye cup can be removed or reversed left-to-right as necessary.*24
• "BIG6" interface: The FX2 inherits the BIG6 (Home) screen from high-end CineAlta cameras such as VENICE, which allows you to easily monitor six essential parameters in MOVIE mode: FPS (frame rate), ISO, Shutter (speed/angle), Aperture or ND Filter, Look, and White Balance. This screen contributes to smooth, intuitive operation, and provides quick access to Variable/Fixed parameters.
• AI-based Real-time Recognition AF for various objects*14: Equipped with a powerful AI processing unit, the FX2 is capable of Real-time Recognition AF for humans, animals, birds, vehicles and even insects*14. A detection frame indicates the recognized subject*15 and tracking can be initiated simply by touching the subject on the monitor screen.
• Compact body for handheld shooting; Cage free design: The FX2 boasts the size and weight advantages of mirrorless cameras while delivering professional operability, concentrating key controls around the grip and with easily pressable long-stroke buttons on the top panel.
• Log shooting mode for stills shares the same video post-production workflow: The Log mode is also available for stills, making it possible to shoot JPEG and HEIF still images with the S-Log3 gamma curve used during a video shoot, so the same workflow can be easily applied during post-production. Transform your stills in editing applications such as Black Magic Design DaVinci Resolve, ready for a variety of uses while maintaining the same look.*23
• Active Mode/Dynamic active Mode image stabilization*21: Active Mode boosts stabilization while walking and shooting. Or, for shooting at an even faster pace, there’s Dynamic active Mode that utilizes electronic stabilization for an even greater effect (up to 30%*20), making it possible to shoot stable footage even when running*21. Corresponding stabilization metadata is embedded in the footage for efficient post-production.*21
• Up to 16 LUT files*7 can be imported by memory card or Creator's Cloud: With the FX2, LUTs can be imported and applied to the LCD monitor and the electronic viewfinder while shooting or playing back movies. Up to 16 user LUT files*7 can be imported from memory cards or Sony’s Creators’ Cloud and selected as needed*8. The LUT used for recording can then be embedded in the video metadata.
• Uninterrupted*25 movie recording capability up to 4K 60p (59.94p): Enjoy uninterrupted video recording time for formats up to 4K 59.94p*25. Heat buildup is prevented through a combination of an internal cooling fan, a highly thermal conductive graphite material used in the image stabilization unit, and an innovative design that allows ample air intake even when the LCD monitor is closed.
• 12 Creative Look profiles for in-camera visual moods.: Picture Profile presets make it easy to adjust color and gradation to create a variety of moods in camera. These include the acclaimed S-Cinetone, which can help produce beautiful skin tones. Imported user LUTs can be registered as PPLUT 1 to 4 and applied during recording, and an expanded range of 12 Creative Look profiles, including FL2 and FL3, offers a comprehensive selection of visual moods for many recording needs.
• Anamorphic de-squeeze display for easy anamorphic monitoring: Anamorphic lenses are a popular choice for creating a distinctly cinematic look. The FX2 is equipped with a desqueeze display mode that allows monitoring in the standard CinemaScope aspect ratio of 2.93:1 while shooting with anamorphic lenses. It offers 1.3x and 2.0x desqueeze settings*9, and Sony’s Monitor & Control app provides even more detailed settings for monitoring on a tablet or other external display devices*10.
• FPS menu for frame-rate control: 2.5x slow motion*11 at 4K / 5x slow motion in Full HD*12: An FPS menu inherits features from our professional Cinema Line models, including a [Variable] setting that allows intuitive frame-rate control: up to 2.5x slow motion*11 at 4K resolution, or up to 5x slow motion*11 when recording in Full HD at up to 120 fps.*12
• A switch for MOVIE or STILL mode saves and recalls settings for each: A single switch selects MOVIE or STILL mode and instantly recalls all the corresponding settings. In addition to providing 33 MP resolution and continuous bursts at up to 10 fps, the camera is equipped with a [Creating still images from Shot Marks] function that allows you to capture stills while recording or playing video that has a previously imported user LUT.
