    My XP HD crashed that was encrypted, this allowed me access to the HD to retrieved my data. The solution then allowed me to clone a new HD that was encrypted. The 3.0 USB drive allowed me to clone 200 gigs in 40 minutes. I am now buying the Apricorn EZ Upgrade 3.0 - SATA Notebook Hard Drive Upgrade Kit with USB 3.0 Connection. This product has a case for the SATA drive.

    This is a great item. I'd recommend clonezilla (it's free) instead of the packaged one though. Keep in mind the cable only works for laptops not desktops due to power constraints b

    I BOUGHT IT TO TRANSFER A HARD DRIVE TO A NEW ONE( OLD ONE SHOWED SIGNS OF "GOING BAD"). THE PROCESS WAS VERY SMOOTH ALTHOUGH IT DID TAKE A LONG TIME BECAUSE EACH "BLOCk" WHETHER USED OR NOT IS COPIED. i AM USING AN OLD "HARD DRIVE" AS AN ENCLOSURE AND AN OLD HARD DRIVE WITH THE CABLE AS A EXTERNAL DRIVE. WORKS VERY WELL.

    This dongle is helpful but the software makes moving from a spinning drive to an SSD painless. It resizes partitions and moves larger HDs to smaller SSD (as long as the actual data fits the smaller drive.) Partitions are a pain in move from large small. Get this and be pain free.
