    A nifty security cam

Arlo has been one leading wireless security camera systems in the past few years. The Arlo Essential Outdoor Camera. This is a second generation model but with minor enhancements. And like other Arlo cameras, this security camera is battery operated. But this time around, the battery is built-in unlike the first generation cameras from Arlo which I currently use. Charging the Arlo device is done by USB charging. Do note that only a cable is provided. You have to provide your own charger though. The main features of Arlo is live video streaming and audio which is pretty much standard fare nowadays. This camera by the way is in HD or 1080p and not 4K. But in real life application, 4K is too much and that 1080 seems to be the sweet spot. And for those not familiar with Arlo, Arlo systems being battery operated is not open 24/7 in order to save battery life. This is where it seems to shine as it is vey convenient. A single charge can last for months and being wireless, this means installation is pretty much a breeze since one you do not to wire it to your base station and two you do not need a nearby outlet. Do note that the Arlo like most internet devices use the 2.4Ghz band for further reach. But one thing to note is that this model can be used with abase or no base at all. I have the first generation Arlo system that uses a base but this will be included in my list of Arlo devices. The Arlo system is also known for its being customizability. Of course motion detection is a standard. And so are timers = to activate them or not. Videos are stored in the cloud and viewable for a week for free. Should you decide you want a longer time, Arlo offers a paid version of their services which allows you to save the videos longer. But one thing that stands out for me is the geofencing capabilities of the Arlo system. This practically enables you to automatically operate the Arlo system wherever you go. Most of the time you would forget to activate your Arlo system when you leave your house. With geofencing, the Arlo will activate once you leave the house and turn off when you go back home. This feature is the most handy for me. And lastly Arlo has incorporated Alexa and Ok Google to its products. This is not a dealbreaker for me since for privacy and security reasons, I tend not to use any of these services. But for those who use these services, Arlo also has a solution for you. Overall, the Arlo Essential Outdoor Camera is a nifty wireless camera and I highly recommend this security camera.

This is a high-quality wireless cordless indoor/outdoor camera by Arlo. I already had an Arlo base station, so I thought it would be a simple matter to add it to the app. I learned that you have to select the model of the camera to set it up in the app. Embarrassed to admit, I forgot the model name of the camera so I tried a few different ones hoping that the app would detect and add the camera, but it didn't. I got off the couch and looked at the box to get the model name, then I was able to add it. It also shows up in Google Home after you add it to the app. The image is clean and clear. It does take 20 seconds or so to load, but then it's good. It is configured through the app and you have control over alert/alarm/recording schedules, modes, areas of the frame where movement is detected, etc. It can tell the difference between people, animals, vehicles, etc, and it looks like it can even detect temperature, moisture, smoke, etc. these settings are hiding in the Feed section under feed settings/event types. So, after some trial and error, digging around for features and instructions, it appears to work great.

Gets the job done, but was challenging to set up

I've used a set of Arlo security cameras in the past and was very happy with them. I expected a similar experience with this new model but that was not the case. Pros: - While it was difficult to set up, being able to connect directly to your home's WiFi is a nice feature. Having extra hubs connected to your router can take up space and ruin aesthetics. - Video quality was excellent both live and during playback. - The alarm feature is something I plan to use. I like how when you get a notification that motion has been detected, you have an immediate option to sound the alarm. I can't wait to test this out on unwanted solicitors that show up at my door. The volume is loud, but not to the point where you would get hearing damage. Cons: - The setup process was very challenging. While Arlo is upfront that connecting directly to your home WiFi (no hub) will require you to take certain steps (using only your router's 2.4GHz band), those steps did not work for me right away. I gave up in frustration after many tries and then waited until the next day to try again. Luckily, things went more smoothly the next day and I was finally able to get the camera working and update the firmware. This model is probably not the best option for folks with low technical skill or low patience to adjust settings in their router. The steps are not terribly difficult, however, if you have some technical skill. - I am not a fan of the Arlo Secure app. It just wasn't user-friendly and didn't seem modern, as if it was designed 10 years ago. - I could not get the microphone to work without an echo. Hopefully a firmware update can fix this in the future. I was a fan of Arlo, but this model missed the mark for me.

The camera's have a good picture and color and the sensitivity is very good. I would have like a better viewing angle but for the price of $49 you can't beat it. I bought the 1080P models. One to replace an old Arlo Pro and the second to help cover a blind spot on my garage. I would definitely recommend this for someone looking for a good camera. The only draw back is you have to get a subscription plan. I have 11 cameras plus a 1st generation 1080P doorbell. A mix of Pro and Pro 2 camera's along with the 2nd generation camera's on 3/4 of an acre. All are running off 2 separate base stations. Also the distance from one of my camera's a Pro model is about 200ft from base station with no issues. Again I would recommend the Arlo camera's no matter the Indoor/Outdoor model's. The last thing is my internet speed is a 1gig connection speed. Before I upgraded my internet from 30 megabytes to what I have now I had 8 cameras and they ran fine on this speed.

This camera has the best video quality that is available in my opinion. I have watched so many different camera videos from people I know and found this one is by far the best. I love that there is a light that shines while taking video and live if you choose to have it on. The audio is so clear I can actually hear my kids in the house talking. I bought one to be sure and will definitely be adding more very soon.

I really like that the newer models aren't dependent on the base station anymore. Arlo does require a subscription to really get the most out of these cameras and before the price hikes it was reasonable. The video and audio quality of these cameras is great for indoor and outdoor use alike. This particular model has a very good battery life and i typically have it in a high traffic area. If you're okay paying monthly fee to really optimize the camera then this may be a good fit for you.

We had Arlo cameras for a number of years until base station quit working so I was excited to find a true wireless version that required only internet connection. Bought this camera, was impressed with the picture and response time. HOWEVER, not sure who the genius is at Arlo that decided the camera did not need to pivot on its mount, With the previous version I could view my backdoor, side gate and garage door. The mount on this one limits the viewing field to one direction and to cover all three of those I would require 3 cameras installed very near each other. I returned it, will go to another manufacturer whose base does allow camera to pivot.

My husband and I purchased this camera to keep an eye on our LSG dog while we were on a cruise. We actually were able to see his collar just fell off and we were able to get someone to go help him before he were to get hurt/lost. Extremely grateful

This camera was something I needed ASAP and the Best Buy team understood that and worked some magic to get it to me in 72 hours. I wasn’t sure how good the camera would be as it was on the cheaper side but I Absolutely love this camera! This camera catches just about everything, there’s a lot of traffic near my camera so I do have to charge the camera every couple of weeks but I could say I prefer this over a ring camera! Clear picture, easy to install, reliable, etc.

This camera is a perfect edition to my Arlo arsenal. I placed it in my backyard for any possible activity and couldn't be happier. It has 130-degree cam which can see almost my entire backyard (which is very impressive considering the size) plus the night vision looks very high quality, you can still see everything very clearly, no matter the hour. I would HIGLY recommend this camera! I plan on buying a few more myself for other areas of my house.

The audio is good, the video is clear. 2 downsides, it’s not real-time, probably has about 1-2 sec delay. Also, you need to have various subscription. For smart detection, you have to pay for subscription, on top of that, you also need to pay another subscription to have access to it’s 24/7 recording.

I have a total of 4 of these camera's on my property. They are very good camera's. They have a wide view of the area you want it to observe catching about anything I. sight. My camera's even alert me for Deer, cats and even a rabbit. Good picture quality. Customer service is also good. I had one camera that went bad and they replaced it for me. I love these camera's and would buy more again.

I got this new second generation an outdoor camera because the one I had went on the fritz. I was told it was a known issue but they sent me a new one of the same camera anyway so at this point I'm hoping this one doesn't start doing what the other one was doing so far so good.
