    This is my third wireless security camera system setup in recent years. The Arlo - Essential 4-Camera Outdoor Wireless 2K Security Camera (2nd Generation) is a truly wireless battery powered system that does not require a hub or home base, just a WiFi connection. The setup process is simple and straightforward once you install the Arlo secure App and after fully charging the built-in battery. The cameras came with some charge, so technically you could set them up right away and charge later but it is recommended you fully charge before setting them up and especially before you mount them. Unlike other brands, Arlo uses the latest USB-C charging connector, so it’s easy to find additional chargers or cables to get all four cameras charged simultaneously. It took almost 2 hours to fully charge. Anyway, once connected to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network the camera quickly checked and installed a firmware update and then I moved on to adding the other 3 cameras to the app. In terms of image quality, 2K QHD is noticeably sharper than 1080p and these Arlo 2nd generation cameras provide excellent video quality and a pretty wide 130 degree viewing angle. The cameras have built-in spot light and also a speaker and a pretty good microphone for two way communication and alarms. Additionally there are motion detection sensors as well as decent infrared night vision and a color night-mode that works pretty well but it will consume more battery. The Arlo App comes with many customizations and alerts for motion detection options and zones to fine tune to your specific installation. The algorithm for detection of moving objects such as human, car, pet works quite well, but unfortunately the recording of clips is only available with a $5/mo cloud subscription. There is no local storage recording option, no micro-SD memory slot like other similarly priced systems. I totally understand the cloud recording option is more secure vs. a local recording that a perpetrator could potentially walk away with, but if you’re on a tight budget, having to pay yet another subscription may not be an option. Overall, these cameras work pretty well but if you’re not already invested into the Arlo brand there are other competing systems available that offer both cloud and local recording options and better battery life, though you can get a solar panel charger to alleviate one of the shortcomings of this system.

    Works as advertised! Higher traffic area battery lasts 2 weeks. At the front door battery lasts a month. Happy with the purchase

    Not impressed with the zone detection. Seems to be lacking significantly in that area. Will not capture much movement at all!

    The cameras are great but could not get any follow-up help from Best Buy. You cannot speak to a person in the store but have to try to communicate with someone in a foreign country that you can't understand. I have Arlo cameras and wanted more. Since there was totally no support I returned the cameras.

    Arlo is ok in the day light but are dark pictures at night (for us old farts lol). the light is a fake and doesn't light up 5 feet away.

    I've had this camera for about a year. I've also (accidentally) dropped it a couple times. Other than a few minor nicks from that, it's in great shape. Though if you want the ability to use the two way speaker, I wouldn't use this product. The person at the camera can hardly hear me. The sound is garbled and fuzzy-making a loud white noise sound. For this reason I cannot recommend this product.

    Mounts are stationary and limit the placement. You must purchase different mounts to enable angled camera use.

    If Customer Service is important then reconsider

    Cameras work ok. Had two that would not charge properly and customer service has been awful! Submitted case online and was closed after a month with no resolution. Was able to get a rep on the phone but was transferred three times and on the phone for over an hour. Still on hold as of this post!
