ARLO cameras are worthless w/o a subscription. Arlo tricks u by giving u a free month subscription,by expiration date it will be to late to return cam. The "PRO 1" is the only cam that doesn't need subscription, but they been phased those out, so they can only sale the "PRO 2 & up", Sure they have a few better features(0 w/o subscription). Y would i need to save 30 days of video history to the cloud. When adding this cam u have to update the app, which is 50\50, but w/o subscription the app is 0\0...(at least the pro1 let's u save video history to app or base station, not cloud, also it's the only cam to use base station). Forget not being able to save recordings, u can't RECORD W\O SUBSCRIPTION.Just research other brands b4 buying arlo. Once all of my pro 1 cams die, i will look into other brands.

It is a very good product for sure! However, as a normal consumer, I have to think about the overall cost while using it. This product requires the monthly subscription fee of $12.99/month and this cost was never mentioned explicitly when I was placing the order….. I thought Best Buy could have told me before….

I have been a user of Arlo products since 2015. This is my third different camera model, the Arlo - Essential 1-Camera Outdoor Wireless 2K Security Camera (2nd Generation) with Color Night Vision. I have seen the company expand rapidly and spin off from Netgear which was the original innovator of these wireless security cameras, it was a game changer. The Arlo Camera Outdoor Wireless 2K Security Camera no longer requires a base station and can connect to your Wi-Fi network directly. That is good and bad as my original base station model has the ability to plug in a USB flash drive for local storage, not the case with this generation. For most use cases this is not a problem, however I still like to have a product that does not solely rely on cloud storage and a subscription. I believe with the paid cloud subscription you get storage of camera video events stored in the cloud for up to thirty days. In any case this updated camera provides 2k resolution (2560 x 1440) with a 130-degree field of view. The jump to 2k resolution is a substantial improvement over older models which only provided HD video (1920x1080). By providing 2k resolution you could conceivably zoom in on license plates as needed (although depending on motion, the frame rate may not be sufficient enough to capture detail at that level for fast moving objects). In addition, this camera has a color night vision mode which also is a welcome feature. Infrared driven night vision can also be configured to shine light as far as 25 feet away, in my case I have the night vision off as I placed the camera in my yard near a fairly busy, illuminated street. The camera also has two-way audio, a siren and a small LED spotlight (the latter is a welcome addition) and keeps up with other security camera makers which have included spotlight capabilities in their products. Performance is good, with quick notifications of detected events. The AI built into the cloud can also identify the object triggering the recording event by motion. This allows identification such as vehicle, person, animal or a package. As always indoor/outdoor Arlo camera models are weatherproof and mountable (basic mounting hardware is included), although I think I am still partial to the magnetic swivel mount of the past. What I consider a key difference from older generations of the Arlo Indoor/Outdoor cameras, is this new generation camera DOES NOT have removable batteries. I had invested in additional batteries and a charger for my existing Arlo cameras and basically swapped them as needed causing no gap in coverage by easily switching out the discharged battery for a fully charged one. In addition, given the number of motion events (cars passing by) the newer model (with all the battery saving features disabled) only yielded about four days of recording compared to the older model in the same location lasted at least a week to ten days. Again, how long the battery lasts is highly dependent on the number of motion events triggering recording and the configuration of video quality. I suspect in a less busy area you will get substantially better battery life; however it is impossible to ignore the differences in battery life and convenience of the previous generation in regards to batteries. One change I really do like is the conversion to USB-C for charging, certainly a more modern standard plug is a welcome change. Overall, the camera works well and provides clear video unmatched by similar security cameras. >> Pros: > clear 2k video resolution > easy setup and configuration > nice iOS app > a good number of configurable detection options > small LED light for close in lighting scenarios > no need for a base station << Cons: < battery life appears to be about half of older generation models. < battery is not removable; thus you have to take the camera out of service to recharge. < no local storage (it does not use the base station as previous models did.

Arlo - A Great Way to Secure your Home

The Arlo essential 4 camera pack is a great system for any house hold. Everything you need for security purposes will be right in this very box. This camera is named essential and it honestly is just that. Arlo and the security camera industry as a whole have came a long way and this camera model is a deffiniton of the progression in the technology and purposes it serves. The 4 pack camera system is perfect for most homes. If you have multiple corners, blind spots, extremely large home, or detached buildings you may need more cameras. However, for the average home owner 4 cameras should cover your home. I live in a rancher with a detached two bay garage and found that this 4 set camera is perfect for the coverage that I need. I have one camera out front, one in the rear, and two on my detached garage. Every home will be different with where you will want to mount your cameras for the best coverage and viewing angles. Setup was easy and quick which is standard for any Arlo product. Unboxing was simple and after fully charging each camera I was able to add each camera to my existing Arlo account in the matter of minutes for all 4 cameras. Sign in and click the plus (+) in the top right corner of the devices section in the app. The cameras did need updates but that did not take long. I do have to say during the charging and setup process I wished the set came with two charging cables rather than one. With so many cameras it would be nice to have this as I am sure I will also want to charge my camera all at the same time at a later point when the batteries run low. Compared to older Arlo cameras circa 2013. I have to say these beat out those cameras by a long shot. The older cameras must be 720p and my point is the 2k cameras equipped in each essential model is of super high quality. I do not see a need for 4k cameras when the 2k is so crisp. Packed with a punch each of these cameras hosts great features including 2 way audio, a built in spot light, colored night vision, and 130 degrees of view. The cameras are also rated for outdoor use but you can use them inside. They are packed with all your standard features and settings for motion notifications, alarm sounds, zoom, rechargeable battery, the list goes on. Arlo has you covered with standard features. My favorite feature is the built in spot light in each of these cameras. While it looks like just a small light almost like an indicator light they surely are misleading. The light is super bright and does a great job illuminating the area for which it serves. My least favorite thing about these cameras are there mounts. Easy to screw in and install but they are not magnetic like they used to in the past. They do slide out of the wall mount but I see this as a part that will have to be replaced over time as before the super strong magnet did its job and it was easy for me to remove the camera, charge and the set back. Also it was easier to change where you want your camera to point. This pack comes with two straight and two angled mounts which are all fixed and you can not adjust them at all. Plus the two mounts that are angled is so minimal you can't even tell it's angled. It has to be angled 5 degrees or less. I am on the trial plan but from what I understand I may need to register for a subscription. My older cams I did not need a plan and could record and save files up to 7 days on the cloud. This is no more so I will see how I like it once the free plan runs out and what's available.

This is my fourth Arlo camera but my first from the “Essential” series. It will definitely be my last Essential camera and possibly even my last Arlo if this camera is any indication of how things are going to be from here on out. Don’t get me wrong, there are certainly some positives here, but there is one glaring negative that outweighs everything. First, the good. Setup is super easy, especially if you already have an Arlo account. Just tap the plus sign in the app, follow a few simple steps, and you’re all done. The video quality is very good for a basic camera and the night vision is acceptable. There are plenty of tweaks in the app for adjusting motion sensitivity, recording quality, increasing battery life, etc. I find the spotlight feature to be more of a novelty on this camera as it really isn’t that bright. It does draw attention to any potential intruders that they are being recorded so it works fairly well for a deterrent. That where the good ends for me. Arlo has “updated” their app recently and in doing so moved things around to difficult to find places. What used to take a single tap now requires you to dig through menus and tabs to find what you are looking for. Also, the functionality of being able to “arm” only a single camera or choose which ones you want to use (rather than all of them) seems to have completely disappeared. Big issue for me personally. The housing is rather bulky and slightly unsightly for my taste. But the biggest fail and what takes the rating way down is the horrific mount. It is a fixed mount with absolutely ZERO adjustment. None. (Don’t be fooled by the online tutorial which shows an adjustable ball and socket mount. That’s not what you get!) One part of the mount screws into the camera itself and the other attaches to the wall and then you click them together. The screw on part has an arrow to show you which way is up, but unfortunately, you cannot get it to point straight up because the alignment teeth are off. So, the mount to the camera itself is cockeyed which means if you mount the part to the wall level, the camera itself is crooked…and so is your video. Oh, and don’t forget, you cannot adjust it once it’s installed without removing the entire thing and starting over! Removing the camera from the mount for charging takes an act of Congress to accomplish. The camera snaps in place on the fixed wall mounting bracket and it feels like you will completely destroy the entire mount when trying to dismount the camera. It is quite possibly the worst designed mounting system I’ve ever encountered for a security camera. So, unless you have a perfect place to put the camera to point directly at the spot you want to monitor and can charge it without taking it down, you have to pony up and buy a replacement. If you decide to but one of these, take my advice and go ahead and pick up a bayonet mount at the same time. Throw out the included mount and save yourself some frustration and headache.

Ignored some of the reviews but I shouldn’t of have. The pic is not good, the microphone sounds like it’s an EVP for ghost hunting. The motion dectection caught nothing at all! The lights did not turn on or sense anyone walking by. Not to mention, it has a HUGE lag. Setting up the cameras, the real time was very disappointing! Anyone can be trying to break in to your car, if you’re lucky you’ll get notified. But when you look into your phone and go outside they’ll be gone! Horrible lag, not worth the price at all!

The cameras are okay but the subscription pricing increases that have occurred in the past few years have doubled what it once costed to access the features of these cameras. The "new" features offered do not justify the increased cost and seems like a money grab. I'm canceling my subscription and going with a new system.
