Great Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having been familiar with the Arlo line of cameras before receiving this one, I was familiar with the way this product works. Setup was a breeze. All I had to do was plug it in and download the Arlo app on my phone. I already have Arlo cameras at my home so I was able to link the camera up to my current system. The camera downloaded firmware prior to being operational, which didn't take more than just a minute or two. I was able to mount the camera on the wall with the included hardware in a room in my house without any issues. The video quality is okay, but at 1080p, it is lacking in comparison to other models or brands at this same price point, as some other brands offer 2k quality. This camera is nice due to it being hardwired and not battery operated like a lot of the other Arlo cameras. Another feature I like is the privacy shield that can be turned on. This covers the lens and turns off the microphone of the camera. It is a very nice touch for those concerned about privacy! You can hear live audio and talk through the camera remotely. It also has infrared night vision. All in all, this is an easy camera to install and it works great for adding video surveillance to anywhere in your home!

Good By Itself, Even Better With More Arlo Cameras
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This Arlo indoor camera will work great as a stand alone unit, but is even better with other Arlo wireless cameras. I am using it with the Arlo Floodlight camera, and they complement each other perfectly. I love Arlo cameras so much that I intend to keep adding more! This camera lives up to the Arlo reputation of making reliable products that perform well. It is very simple to set up and does not require the use of an Arlo Hub. Just download the Arlo App and pair the camera. If you already have Arlo cameras, all it takes is using the App to add a camera. The 1080P video quality is detailed and clear. The two-way audio communication feature likewise works well. Just make sure you have a fast Wi-Fi signal since HD video streams require a high speed wireless signal. Since it is not battery operated, this camera needs to be plugged into an outlet to function. It can be wall mounted or stood upright on the base. I am not mounting it on the wall because I want the flexibility to move it around the house. One feature that I appreciate is that privacy shield that can be activated by disarming the camera. When disarmed a physical cover blocks the camera lens. An Arlo subscription is not required to use this camera, but is necessary to get the maximum function of the Arlo App. I am paying the monthly subscription cost,and find that it is worth the cost for the added functionality.

Great add-on to my system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed another camera to add to my existing Arlo setup and decided to give the Essential a try. I already had several Pro 3's but didn't need the wireless and outdoor capabilities so this little guy fit the bill perfectly. After unboxing, I simply plugged it in and opened the app. It took about 2 minutes to get set up and I had zero issues. I used my existing bridge instead of direct wi-fi. Picture quality is very good and the motion detection works flawlessly. This camera comes with a free trial of the Arlo Smart suite of goodies but person and animal detection is all that I am using at the moment. Note though, the trial only works with this single camera, not any others you may have on your account. It has a privacy shutter that closes when the camera is off for added security and peace of mind. The status LED is quite bright but luckily it can easily be toggled off in the app so the camera is less intrusive. Overall, this is a decent camera with just enough features to make it usable but not overly burdensome on setup or daily use. If you want a standalone camera or are looking to expand your existing setup, you can't go wrong here.

Great Addition to your Arlo System

Arlo has always produced quality products and this seems to be no exception. Easy to set up I added this to my existing setup quickly. For those that don't have an existing Arlo set up I think this might be a little pricy for what you get out of the box. There is no memory card slot so saving recordings will require the cloud subscription which is very reasonably priced. The privacy shield is a nice feature though the assurance it gives is only for video as I guess there would be no way to know if someone were using the mic to listen in. None the less it is nice to know the lens is covered up when inactive. Video quality for day and night are what you would expect for a 1080p device and are more than acceptable.

Small, compact - great quality!

The Arlo Essential is a small, compact wired, indoor camera that works very well. The app is easy to install however I tried several times to connect to my home network via I-phone 12 Max Pro, and a Linksys Tri-mesh router. I could not convince my phone and the router to work on 2.4 ghz so the device would never connect. Brought the camera to my office, and was able to get my phone to select 2.4 ghz network, and the set up was quick and easy! The device is motion-activated and responds quickly identifying things as either animal, person, or vehicle. The phone app stores events which can be easily reviewed and saved/deleted. Haven't tried adjusting field of vision or sensitivity yet but so far it performs GREAT! I like the idea that the camera works independently on the app and doesn't require a "home system" or other accessories in order to work. The color and video quality are excellent as well. This is a great product at a great price.

Setup is aggravating and time consuming

Took it to the office and tried to set it up there but would not connect. Brought it back home and it would not connect again after many attempts. This product is a waste of my time and money. Going back to the competitors product I selected for my home security. Setting it up was a breeze. The Arlo is going in the trash

Disappointing.

Stopped connecting to WiFi and no support

No matter what - changed WiFi networks, devices, did factory resets, etc. Nothing. The cherry on top is that there is no customer support unless you pay for it (by subscribing to their services) so basically I’m left with a piece of expensive junk. Stay away from this brand, absolutely the worst.

Very short life.
