    Subscription required and triggered by everything

    Essential in this case means cheap and doesn’t work well. I have two older Arlo cameras that are amazing. This one is horrible. Most notably and not at all clear when you buy it is that you must have a subscription if you want to view recordings in the app unless you use local storage (recording device for hub not included) AND you have to have one of the newest hubs. The camera can be used without a hub, but then it is fairly useless without a subscription. Activity zones included with subscription only simply don’t work. I played with the activity zones for hours and things, not just people continued to trigger the camera outside of the zones. Additionally my shrubs continually set off the camera. Basically anything will trigger this camera, not just people and animals. Don’t waste your money.

    Poor home security cameras

    Amazed at how poor the battery life is with these cameras. In a matter of days, the battery runs down. It's really inconvenient to have to get a ladder and take them down to charge them. I'm sure there are way better options out there. Don't waste your money on these.

    I’ve had the Arlo pro and pro2 for a while and I like them. They come with the free 1 week cloud storage of videos and the hub. I thought I would be able to add the Essential Spotlight to the hub and get the recordings with the free APP I already have, but you can’t. There is an option to save recordings locally on the hub if you inset a memory card. The only problem with that is you can not view the recordings on the APP, you have to remove the memory card and put it in a tablet or laptop to view them. While I had the free 3 month trial subscription it was great. The battery life is great, I get at least a month with around 25 videos a day. Also the sensing range is about double the pro2, at least 50’.

    You can't really see clear at night like it claims. It takes a while to connect, and it is a few seconds behind from the actual footage. Plus because of the app I'm not able to use my phones flashlight or camera. Also I'm not able to switch my camera around on video calls.

      The Arlo Secure App does not affect your phones flashlight, please navigate to Settings > Support in the Arlo App for service options available to you and provide additional details.

    Hidden software subscription fees

    This product has a hidden fee. You need to pay $200/ two year subscription for software updates. This is in top of the subscription for the app and home Protection fees. I didn't like this hidden fee, so u returned it

    Great cameras, I honestly didn’t see the reason to purchase the Arlo pros if this one’s look spectacular. They are super responsive and detect any movement on time.

    Not a bad camera for the price. I saw it for way less on Amazon,but showed it to the Best Buy employee and price matched it.I would recommend this camera

    The camera isnt bad but the service if there is a problem is terrible. I was told to disconnect all my cameras to reset and when 2 never went back on the repair person said there is nothing he can do to help so Im down 2 cameras and the batteries go out pretty fast - whats the point of having a camera if you cant turn it on 24/7 because the batteries run out so you need a back up camera to use while recharging the other cameras. I have 5 altogether and they ahve all been a headache at some point

    An excellent addition to my security system. Sync up to existing Arlo hub with b easy. Love the spotlight feature and distinguishes between person and animal when motion detection goes off.

    Great camera . Have 3 now. They don't need a hub but they do easily connect to my Amazon stick and Amazon fire tv. Can use with Alexa . Great app also.

    I returned this item because the quality was not what I had hoped. It did not communicate as a speaker from my phone and video was very delayed and not very clear. The WiFi was literally 12 feet from the camera. Plus, any movement forced the spotlight to come on and made it more difficult to see through the blurry screen. There’s also a subscription that makes it hard to want to keep it. I paid a lot of money to buy it and then had to have a subscription to view the video. Pretty disappointed.

    It’s been 4 months since I bought it and the spotlight feature no longer turns on when armed and triggered by motion. I can still turn the spotlight on manually however I purchased for the automatic light feature which is now not working. I’ve reset. I’ve checked setting etc and nope. Just no longer works.

    Cameras are easy to install and depending on how active of an area you’re monitoring, battery charge lasts for a few months. I’ve been using four cameras for several years and adding a 5th to my setup.

    I am only giving this a 3 because the battery life is horrible, I have them plugged in to solar panel chargers 24/7 and the battery still dies daily I have to recharge them at least once or twice a day and it gets annoying since they are mounted on the roof
