Finally replaced my original arlo camera with this model and it’s awesome. Doesn’t give me random motion alerts like the previous model did. The spotlight feature works great as does the two-way audio.

This was an upgrade from my original purchase. Easy to setup and easy to use. Just connect and go. The spotlight serves as a motion light. The images are clear and the videos are longer than 10 secs.

Security cameras are a mainstay around my home. I use them to keep a watchful eye on my cats in their ‘Catio’, or the back patio to see what nightly creature is passing through (usual raccoons) or to keep an eye on holiday decorations on the front porch. However, when it comes to wireless cameras, the ones that I have owned typically need to be recharged after a couple of weeks. I do own one wireless camera that had a long-life battery however, it was limited when it came to accessibility and night vision. When I learned that Arlo created a wireless security camera with a spotlight, I had to check it out. And Arlo did not disappoint. Out of The Box: The Arlo Essential Spotlight ready to go out of the box though I would recommend that you fully charge it before mounting it in its ‘permanent’ area. It comes with an easy to install wall mount and charging cable. Downloading the app and setting up the camera through the app is simple. Quality: The Arlo Essential delivers a sharp 1080p daytime picture as you would expect. What I was REALLY surprised by was the clarity of the nighttime picture. Typically, with security cameras that record at night, there’s sometimes a ‘blooming’ or ‘blowout’ effect that can distort what you’re looking at. Having any kind of distortion to a recording can hinder you from identifying something important. The Arlo Essential has a built-in spotlight that allows you to see the picture in actual color. Having this feature is a huge benefit compared to my other camera that relies on standard night vision. And what if the spotlight isn’t turn on? Well, I am pleased to say that the standard night vision is pristine! It’s a win-win when it comes to the night recording. Features: The Arlo Essential will record when it detects motion. And when motion is detected, your smart device is sent a notification. This is great for when you might be expecting a package to be delivered or there might be someone at the door but you are unable to answer it right away. And let’s say that you need to verbally address whoever is in front of the camera, the Arlo Essential has a two-way speaker that allows you to communicate. The audio is clear whether you are talking or if the person in front of the camera is. The range of view of the camera is surprisingly wide. The 12x digital zoom is dependable for the most part. When you get to the 12x zoom, there is some blurriness to the picture but that is to be expected when dealing with digital zoom. Want to ward off an unwanted visitor? You can activate two types of sirens from your device. The sirens will get the attention of who or whatever is on camera. My Arlo camera came with a free trial for Arlo Smart which allows the user to create Cloud Activity Zones. This means that through your device, you can create a detection zone that will activate your camera to record rather than start recording the moment something insignificant passes in front of the camera range. Also, with the Arlo Smart feature, you are allowed to have a 30-day recorded video history and Rich Notifications which allow the user to customize detections fully. Durability: Arlo has always produced sturdy cameras and the Arlo Essential is no exception. The camera is going to withstand harsh winter weather of rain/snow, hot summer days, or a fall from a shelf because your curious cat decided to knock it down. Arlo states that the Essential camera will last six months on a single full charge. I look forward to seeing if this proves true. And when the time comes where I need to recharge the camera battery, removing the camera from the mount is just as easy as the initial install. If you’re looking for a security camera but don’t want to deal with the hassle of wires and extension cords, this Arlo Essential camera should be an easy choice for you. If it’s for personal security for the home or if it’s to monitor the goings-on in the back room, this camera provides an invaluable service.

The cameras work fine. The only problem is if you don't buy a base station when you get them you either don't receive recordings after your trial period or you have to buy a subscription. We were told in the store that we would not have to get either one. That we had everything we would need.

Camera works well but the Arlo app is subpar. Sometimes we log in and it takes forever to connect. Once it connects the images/video are good.

Very disappointed in the battery life of these. Had to charge them 3 times in 10 days, the first of which was at activation. The boast of 6 months between charges must have been based on never turning them on. This negates any positive impression I had before I bought them. Also very disappointed with Best Buy sales people who should have warned me. The web is full of Arlo purchasers who made the same complaint.

I don’t like the newer Arlo cameras. I have an older Arlo camera that records motion activated videos which you can view on a smartphone. The newer Arlo camera requires a monthly fee subscription in order to do the same thing. I bought two new Arlo cameras not knowing about the subscription requirement. Also, the newer cameras constantly goes "offline". My older Arlo does not have that problem. Two thumbs down for the new Arlo cameras.
