    Surprise Monthly Fee

    We purchased this model since it seemed compatible with an older version of the Arlo system we purchased a few years ago (the older version was no longer available when we wanted to add on). The camera was easy to set up and add to our existing system. The new functionality described in the Arlo Smart software (identifying people vs. animals in the notifications and setting "activity zones") was not critical to our usage since it was not available on our initial system, but a 3 month trial period was included in the setup. However, one of the primary reasons we selected the original Arlo system was the cloud based, rolling, 7-day video recording & playback storage. What we discovered was that functionality is only available with the Arlo Smart subscription. Without this paid subscription you will only be able to view the live feed off of the camera. Granted it is not a huge expense ($10 per month for up to 5 cameras), it was just not obvious that the functionality that was included in the previous version would be a monthly charge with this model.

    HORRRIIBLE!!

    August 2021 i have 5 arlo cameras, these cameras should really be taken off the market until they are fixed. I don't feel safe with these cameras and if something were to happen to me or my family due to the negligence of their cameras they should be help responsible. For starters their system is delayed they don't catch things till after 12-15 seconds of them happening, how is that okay with them ? My second issue is that the cameras don't work due to low temperatures but its only 24 degrees outside. Whats the point of having cameras if all they are going to do is disrupt your peace of mind. I pay a monthly fee for their services and for what ? To receive bad customer service, its a same that i have invested in such a poor company.

    These cameras appear to be easy, but they won't connect. We tried with two android and one iPhone - nothing. Called the internet provider and confirmed that the 2.4 Ghz network was properly set up, too. There is almost no tech support to be found anywhere.

    If you are looking for a camera, DO NOT BUY this one! I just purchased this device and it is AWFUL!!!! Apple does not support this device, meaning there is no mobile app available for Arlo and the customer service when you call them is unprofessional and cannot help you. Waste of $140.00 bucks. I Hope Best Buy will allow me to return. Bottom line, if you are a company that wants to charge this amount for a camera. PLEASE only create and sell products that are easy to sync up consumer computers and cell phones.

    I would give them a 5 star review other than their support is lacking. THEY CLAIM Apple Home Kit compatibility, good luck with that. They say you can add cameras to your smart plan after your first five, How? Not on their web site, and if call, we’ll you are told to disconnect and start over. Seems to be their standard answer. The problem is you have already installed up high, near the roof, now you have to go around your house climbing a ladder? Really? If I am going to do that, I would just buy something else. But if you just want a few cameras and not smarty home, then this is a great product. I have 5 cameras, bought the new floodlight, and after free subscription, then came the problem. Also have five of the old spot/flood lights. Been a user for years, but am looking for someone who actually supports their product.

    Returned after a few weeks. Advertised as having a 6 month battery. Mine lasted only a week after each charge. My other Arlo cameras last much longer. Also really didnt like that the spotlight could not be turned off

    Bad night vision

    Even with the added spot light the images of people's faces are unrecognizable as they are with the competition camera brand ring. Both great daytime cameras but at night you'll miss alot of specific details.

    Arlo just bricked all my old cameras by requiring a subscription to even view them. These were sold with the agreement that it was free. DONT TRUST THIS COMPANY! DONT BUY THIS!!! BAIT AND SWITCH!!

    I have been a big fan of Arlo cameras, owning Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 models. When the Arlo Essential Spotlight camera was introduced, and it was said to be compatible with the Arlo Hub VMB4000 that my other cameras use, I purchased one. After a couple of weeks past the Best Buy return window, I discovered that while the video files are indeed recorded on the media on the hub, unlike the other cameras, they cannot be viewed from the Arlo App unless I subscribe to Arlo Smart. This makes the camera nearly useless to me, since I can't review the videos it creates without removing the flash drive from the hub, and inserting it in a computer.
