Runs off wifi so make sure you have an unlimited amount. A notification will appear when someone or something passes camera, more frequently passed cameras drain the battery quickly. Camera quality is great .

Spotlight Essential probably needs a base station

My Arlo Essential Spotlight has a terrible signal from the exact same location where my Arlo Pro 2 was located. The Pro 2 worked well and is still in use. It is simply directed at a different part of our property. Arlo's tech support confirmed my suspicion. The Essential has a weaker connection to our router because it does not have a base station. Of course, the Pro 2 has a base station that will not work with the Essential Spotlight. The base station that will work with the Essential Spotlight camera is unavailable in new condition from all retailers. Arlo and their retailers really need to communicate the connectivity role of base stations when telling customers these cameras have a range of up to 300'. The Essential Spotlight camera is about 130' from a high quality mesh router and the signal is recording as poor to adequate. Unfortunately, even when the signal is showing it is the same as the Pro 2 camera from the same location, the Essential Spotlight cam will not regularly connect through the app. I am not thrilled with this purchase.

Arlo cameras are good quality for pictures and good with sound, but there is a few downsides. Sometimes it doesn't always pick up the motion. Sometimes does not connect quickly. There is a minimum delay vs live (about 3 sec).

We love it! We travel a lot and this really gives us a peace of mind. I like how we can talk to the UPS/ FedEx/ USPS employees and have them throw our packages over the gate. Sometimes our friends and family come over while we're gone and we're able to tell them we're not home through the camera. The only issue would be that everytime a car, a cat or person passes by, you'll receive a notification for every little movement. Other than that, it's great!

They are ok for some cheap security. However, they die real fast, you get knock out of the login, and it give you trouble you try to add another user.

So so far i like these cameras...i have 2 set up,and a doorbell. I do not have the hub you can buy. Biggest down side is its not wireless and one of the cameras has to get charges 2 times a week...called customer service and waiting for a resolution

Greta quality picture but does the larger battery make a difference….Not in my setup. Still have to charge at least once a month. You have to subscribe to a plan to view recordings.

Hi JeffR, The Essential spotlight camera battery lasts up to 6 months with Average use. Average use assumes that you are using Optimized or Best Battery Life video settings and that your cameras record for approximately five minutes per day. Too many triggers such as heavy traffic may cause the battery to drain much more rapidly. You can try adjusting your cameras positioning to lowering the sensitivity to a desired level to help with unwanted motion detection. Regards, Arlo Team arlo_us

    Unreliable & Poor Quality

I have placed the camera in a garage, relatively less movement which trigger the camera. Worked well for initial one month or so. Then it started giving problems, The battery doesn't last longer than 3 weeks, the camera goes offline intermittently. You have to either restart the system or remove & add the device all over again. Another thing that is also not clarified when you purchase the product is that subscription is a must have for recording.

    Poor Product/Non-Existent Support for Basics

Terrible instructions. The instructions for the security sign were more detailed than the camera set-up. I went online and did everything possible and even had a friend with more technical knowledge assist and nothing worked. I then contacted customer service via chat in an attempt to get assistance with the set-up. I requested a phone number several times so I could call as I have no patience for typing for technical support (it takes forever). Arlo has no technical support unless you are a paid subscriber. The instructions are barely the size of the cartoons that come in an old school bubble gum pack. You have to spend time on the internet researching how to set it up. While I intended to get the subscription after my free 30-day trial and to see how well it worked. I decided after the attempt to set up a poor product with vague instructions; not to mention a company who fails or refuses to answer basic information over the phone unless you PAY them, is not worthy of my business. To the Arlo rep: Your product is awful and your attempt to assist customers after a sale is a FAILURE. I will be getting new cameras once I return your Arlo product, and I can assure it will not be your junk.

These were pretty easy to set up. The one we have outside which we have on all the time, does use the battery relatively fast, but we haven't had to charge it yet. We also got these while they were on sale, so I'd wait for a sale to buy again.
