    Not so easy setup

    I bought this and haven’t even been able to use it yet because what was supposed to be an easy install and set up is now requiring an electrician to come out because our doorbell doesn’t have enough voltage to power the arlo doorbell. I was super excited to get this and I hope it’s a quick easy (and cheap) fix to get help installing it professionally.

    I have never owned a video doorbell. I chose Arlo because i have the Arlo security cameras. I found it easy to install, easy to use and good video quality.

    Fine product and better than Nest in my opinion. Only bummer is that it needs to have plugged into power!

    Wasn't sure about this at first since we had a functioning Nest doorbell. Wanted to consolidate to trim one monthly subscription fee and glad we did. Wish they had a few features like notifications to two phone numbers, but camera view quality and current feature set are excellent.

    Setup process nightmarish to troubleshoot

    I bought this to replace a Ring that had kicked the bucket after a few years of service. The physical installation wasn't difficult, but the software setup and device performance afterward was a nightmare. The first time I set it up, it started to install a firmware update, but in the midst of that I received a motion detection notification (from me standing in front of the doorbell) and clicking on that to dismiss it inadvertently refreshed the page and caused the firmware update to fail. Installation couldn't continue so I had to deactivate and re-add the device. The 2nd go around I "successfully" set up the device and it was ringing my mechanical chime and detecting motion, but the live view couldn't connect. I contacted support and we tried resetting my router and then factory resetting the Arlo. 3rd setup attempt. Live view works but the button wouldn't ring my chime. Before attempt 4 I redid the wiring to make sure everything was well connected. I also waited to give the Arlo's internal battery more time to charge (even the wired model is just trickle charging an internal battery). After another factory reset the chime is ringing with every button press and the live view works. Success? No, the live view cut stopped working after 10 minutes and after resetting my Wi-Fi again the Arlo went offline and wouldn't reconnect. Even when it was working the audio quality was poor and there was a substantial delay in the video call. Attempts 5+: Arlo couldn't be found after scanning the QR code to connect it to Wi-Fi. Once that happens I couldn't even try again without factory resetting because it will no longer scan the QR code on subsequent attempts. Every time you do this you have to swipe through the entire step by step physical installation instructions that you already completed. The notifications preferences also reset to the default most active, most annoying. So while you tinker with the thing you will be flooded with motion detection emails. I suspect the issues I encountered were a combination of it not getting the power it wanted at first or the Wi-Fi signal strength it wanted. But the Ring Pro it was supposed to replace never had those issues. I'm disappointed as I really wanted to like this thing.

    It worked for a a couple of months, and then disconnected itself. Very unreliable. If you're looking for something you can count on for security, look elsewhere. A lot of people are having the disconnect problem. As a tech pro, I don't waste time on getting tech support. When electronic devices don't work flawlessly out of the box and keep working for years, it means they weren't tested enough and should not have been sold. It's been a waste of time and money. A regular security camera from another company replaced the worthless doorbell, and it does a lot more for much cheaper.

    This is really an excellent doorbell/camera. It gives a very clear video of people, animals, and vehicles and identifies which of these is activating the camera. Videos are saved for a very good period of time and can be saved permanently if necessary. I certainly recommend this product.

    Not the best doorbell camera, but serves it's purpose. In my opinion the Ring's video quality is a little better, but I already had an Arlo account for my other camera's so went with this one for integration. It's pretty good, but when someone rings, the video/audio feed is pretty laggy.

    All the arlo stuff has turned out to be rather disappointing. I don't know if it's just all wireless home security cameras or what, but they drop connection, run out of batteries even with solar panels attached, aren't very high quality even though they're supposed to be 4k, etc. This doorbell is similar in all respects. The installer must have missed something because every time someone presses the doorbell I get an alert on my phone saying someone is tampering with the doorbell. I really just wish I could return everything altogether and try another vendor at this point. 4 cameras & 2 solar panels in total.

      In regards of the tampering notifications, It’s possible that the wiring anyplace between the transformer and doorbell has a break or that the terminals on either the doorbell or transformer don't have a good connection. Anything that would break the connection, even temporarily, would do this.

    This is a nice feature to have on your house to make you feel a tad safer. The picture quality is very good and it encompasses quite an area of not only someone coming to the door but standing around the doorway area. Truthfully I thought it would be too big to look at but it really isn't.
