First Look Review - New Release
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m an astro/aero engineer, so I’m attempting write an informative review from my perspective. Hope it helps you. SETUP: Very easy to set up. Three screws to secure the mounts to where you want it. Install and use the Arlo app to setup the two security lights. The app requires you to scan the QR code on the bridge and each light to setup. My smartphone is a little older and had a difficult time scanning it. Plug the bridge into the power socket and follow the app instructions. Lastly install the battery, screw the lights to the mounts and you’re done. HARDWARE: The light mounts are good quality. They’re made of mostly metal and the design is the same as the other common mounts. The ones that I bought for my Arlo security cameras are very similar except for the metal ball for the magnetic attach feature. The mounts that came in the box are screw on to the light type. This is good, makes it harder to steal it but also harder to remove to charge the battery. The security light itself is good but is only rated at 400 lumens. Its not super bright but it will light an area, so you can see what’s in front of you. The battery lasts a long time even if you have it set to full power. There is a trade-off between battery life and light brightness. It is designed for battery life. If you have the Arlo security cameras, the you can sync with the lights, so the image quality is better. This is probably the case with all security cameras in low light. They complement each other well. I mounted one of the lights in front of my parent’s house. Now they don’t have to fumble to their front door in case they forget to turn on the porch lights or come home later than planned. SOFTWARE: The lights can be controlled using your smartphone, table, or computer using the Arlo app. It is the same app that also controls your other Arlo devices like the security camera system. It will tell you your battery level, time the lights remain on after triggered by motion, and many other things. I set the lights to turn on via the motion sensor only from dusk to dawn and to also start recording on the security cameras. I set the motion sensor to the maximum range which is about 25 ft. It’s not too sensitive that it turns on with insects, etc. but it could a little more sensitive. Overall, the app is very easy to use, it didn’t take long to go through all its features. CONCLUSION: These security lights are a good alternative to the common wired-in security lights, especially if you don’t want to run new wiring. There’s also the added benefit of being able to control them with your smartphone and change the settings on the fly. I have several Netgear products and when I contact their support center, they have always treated me well and resolved my issue. I received this item for free as part of the Netgear First Look program. They send me new to market products for an un-biased review.

Excellent Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love my Arlo Security Lights! I received them as part of the NETGEAR First Look Review Program. I put them up in the backyard for use in conjunction with my Arlo Security Cameras. It was exactly what I needed to get better performance from the security cameras. They were so easy to install and rechargeable batteries are fantastic. I will be additional lights for my front yard as well. I’m impressed with the amount of light they give. It’s perfect for our home system. I highly recommend them.

Really cool sensors plus effortless setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup of the lights was incredibly easy, requiring only that you use the Arlo app on a mobile device to scan a QR code in the battery compartment of the light. The customizable LED light color is a great feature and we've used them to provide cool lighting effects at parties. Since I have the Arlo security cameras as well, I can use these motion detectors to trigger the cameras to start recording before the camera senses anything for more complete coverage. They are controllable via the Arlo app and can be set to be active during the same, overlapping, or separate periods as the cameras. Additionally, there is a feature that allows the sensor to trigger a motion alert without turning the light on which makes it easier to position them without worrying about it shining through your neighbors windows. We've chosen to leave the motion alert and the light turn on coupled so that it comes on whenever motion is detected within the scheduled time period. The fact that they are rechargeable is a great feature, however I would prefer the kit came with the wall charger so the batteries could be charged outside of the sensor. Though this kit comes with a wall charger and an extra rechargeable battery (3 total), the batteries can only be charged in the sensor which means it would need to be taken down to charge it. The wall charger docking station is available for purchase separately (~$14.99 I think) but feel like the cord for connecting the battery directly to the charger should've been included to allow for quick swap out. While they do work with Amazon Echos/Alexa via the Alexa Arlo skill, the operation via Alexa is pretty buggy but I expect this to be fixed through updates to the Alexa skill. I personally would like a customize-able arm/disarm code word so I could say "Alexa, Arm Arlo Sensors [code word]" on my way out and visa versa once I get home. Overall, these sensors are great and come with a ton of very customizeable options and features, however it seems they are a bit overpriced considering the non-smart option only costs about $15 per motion sensor light. They are a great addition to existing Arlo systems and I would recommend them. I received this sensor kit as part of a testing and review program through the NETGEAR First Look Review Program.

Great Flood light
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup - Very easy did it over my phone and it walked me through each step. Features - Great I love the multi colored light option. And works with my existing Arlo cameras Performance - No issues so far performs great Expectations - This product met my expectations and even exceeded them. Price-Value - For what you get I think this is a good price. Existing Arlo Cameras - These lights work great with the existing system I have. I put one in my backyard and one on the side of my house. If the lights go off then the camera records. Setting this up took some time but I found a video on youtube which made it easy to set up. I received the Netgear featured product for free.

The strength is in the integration
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One thing that I don't see a lot of people talking about is the IFTTT integration for these lights. Alone, these are just lights, with the Arlo base station, they are part of the Arlo ecosystem. With IFTTT I can push events to my SmartThings, to my lights, with SmartThings and IFTTT the possibilities become almost endless. I live out in rural america. My wife is from the big city. Getting these lights has given her some piece of mind, and I've worked to do thing such as turn on some of my inside Philips bulbs, as well as my front door lights when these lights sense motion. I've also done some integration between the lights and the cameras. The product, is pretty solid, it doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart in your hands. The app walks you thru everything you need to know. The only part that throws me for a loop is the battery bent for the product. It's not bad, I'm just used to everything being plugged in. Overall, I'd have to say the product does what it says it does. Are there some misfires? Yes, especially when you live in the little house in the prairie. Is it something that is insurmountable? No. As an aside, I was provided this unit in return for my un biased opinion by the Netgear First Look program. All thoughts are my own.

way overpriced for quality and options
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The lights are expensive, the batteries do not last that long and since they are rechargeable, they continue to last ever shorter periods of time. There are no adjustments for brightness, time of display or anything else. The lights occasionally just go offline, by themselves, which is very aggravating. There is no information in the app or on their website about what to do when your devices go offline. Restarting the bridge never seems to work. Usually, you have to get back up on your ladder, take out the battery, wait a while and stick the battery back in, which is a ridiculous inconvenience.

Great upgrade to cheap wireless lights
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an existing arlo pro camera setup to monitor my side yard. However, I live on a street without streetlights, so it gets really dark at night, making it often hard to see. The solar lights in the ground do very little to help with this, which is what I had been using. I've been slowly adding smart devices to the house over the years. I really like being able to sit on the couch and control things with my phone. I already do these with indoor things like lighting and the thermostat. Adding the ability to control lighting outside really increases the value of the cameras I have out there. My wife no longer worries about leaving on vacation because we can always "check on the house" while we are away, even in the dark. With the camera, we get videos alerts with actual lighting now in the dark. The biggest surprise to me was being able to use the lights for more than just security. I can also set mood lighting by playing with colors -- my toddler loves it. On a practical level, setting the lighting to soft pinks and reds doesn't run my night vision while still providing some much needed lighting to see where we're going at night. If you have those cheap solar lights to lightup your pathway, this is a perfect upgrade to actually get what you want, with the same wireless ease, and much improved usability. I do wish the lights themselves were brighter. However, the value here is pretty good, given a nice security light will cost at least $250, and doesn't integrate at all (and will likely be wired). It may be brighter, but won't be controllable with an app, nor easy to set a schedule, etc. So for the money, this is a great deal. In conclusion, assuming you already have an arlo camera setup, adding lights are a no brainer enhancement. I'm basing my rating on the value added to the setup. If you were looking to buy into Arlo, I still think they are competitive (especially on sale) and definitely still recommend over cheaper solutions. They work as expected and like everything else with arlo, are really easy to setup. I love the wireless aspect of the Arlo system, and almost expect it now -- I'm not running wires into my side yard for this. I received this product for free, in exchange for my unbiased review.
