For the past 10 years, I have been looking hard for an independent security system that would free me from my long subscription history with ADT and, most recently, Ackerman Security. Paying for a monitoring service has been such a rip off for too long. The ARLO security cameras so far fit the bill as a first point of entry in designing an independent model for monitoring my property. Couldn’t believe how easy the system was to set up. Security systems have really evolved to the plug and play level with easy mounting solutions for a variety of surfaces. So, seems like my delay in getting on board was a delay in my favor. Just takes a few steps to wirelessly integrate cameras to a base station and your router. You do need to have an available Ethernet cable. I had to buy one since mine were all engaged. The quick start brochure is an easy follow to sync up the 2 cameras of my first kit to the base station with only a few button presses. There are also plenty of online videos if you prefer audio visual guidance to print. When ready, I will also have to purchase additional cameras separately since resolution is a strong 1080p and peripheral range covers far more than expected at 300ft. A charging cable for the cameras is included; but, the cameras are good for 6 months. Bet the length of the charge depends on how cold the weather. But, if you want to hard wire the cameras, power adapters are more items to purchase separately. I don’t like the extra errands; but, maybe not a bad hassle to break free from the commercial security companies. Since I am in a start-up phase with the system, I first set up my 2 cameras indoors. The cameras are totally weather proof and can be used indoors or outdoors. But, I will have to study mounting strategies for my home’s exterior coverage since I want to add 3 cameras not only to be camouflaged but also to be out of reach. Nonetheless, once all units are synced, login into your downloaded app to access your surveillance recordings. Things to consider: ARLO provides 7 days of FREE storage; so, deleting stored data is another thing to add to your to-do list until you decide to pony up for a subscription. As well, the siren is 100db but source is at the base station. Great thing is that the audio is great for 2 way communicating with visitors. Good to know that the system is compatible with IFTTT and Samsung SmartThings platforms. Before you take the leap, good idea to get a basis for comparison and for tutorials and tips, see https://www.arlo.com/support/

Not nearly as good as the Arlo 4 pro. the only better feature is that you are not forced to have a subscription.

    Caveat emptor!

Crappy, crappy crappy! If I hadn't gotten rid of the packaging I would had return it by now. The lowest rate I can give, unfortunately is a one-star. It doesn't deserve it. I based my purchase on the so called "experts " that lauded its overall quality, but failed to mention that the wireless version (the one I have) is wily and batteries don't hold very well. I bought the solar panels, and the batteries seem to have a mind of their own. I can't comment on the wired version, it might be a better option. Image quality is excellent during daytime but very dim in the dark. I bought motion sensor lights to improve nighttime images. To charge the batteries in wireless mode requires removing the entire camera and placing in USB connector. This is very annoying. The camera bases are cheap plastic, and the camera has been spotty due to (I suspect) recent torrential rains recently, so I seriously question the waterproof claims. Again, research camera system options well and choose a wired brand. I didn't want to make extra drilling and wiring. I gave quality a 2 of 5 but it is subjective due to the problems above.

This system is truly Wireless (no power or network wires) but that is slightly deceptive. If you don't supply power you don't get full features.

Wireless security camera surveillance Was very expensive. This set up is not as easy as it seems and since purchase Arlo has changed its storage plans, separated from the netgear company and my camera system still will not connect to my home network. So Arlo support is trying to work with me month by month troubleshooting the system. Wi-Fi is generally insecure so be sure to lock down or subnet your wireless network.

If you just want to watch your yard or doors during the day time, this cameras are great. However, at night, they are absolutely terrible! Night vision is extremely bad, can not see much of anything. We’ve had some problems in our neighborhood and all happen at night. These cameras will not catch or view anything for me. Back to the drawing board. Might have to spend the money for the Nest cameras

Every two days I have to charge the battery. For all the money I spent on these cameras I haven't even had the chance to use them. Constantly having g someone come to fix them but still they are useless. I my as well take them down and bring back to store and get my moneyt back .

Just installed and was thoroughly impressed for the first two weeks then the temps dropped into the teens That's when the battery's can't deliver enough to power the camera. This system is probably great for a mild climate. I suspect they would have the same problems in extreme heat as well

I am not completely satisfied with the Arlo system. I have one camera that is essentially useless and the two times I have called customer support trying to troubleshoot it I have ended the call because of communication issues with tech. Upon purchasing I was told there are no fees with Arlo, yet there are fees if I want all the features. I am now past the 15 day return period so I feel I am stuck with a subpar security system.

Great set of wireless security cameras

The Arlo 2 is an excellent set of security cameras, if a little expensive. Connectivity and Initial Setup: The setup is actually quite easy and very literally 'plug and play', though that's a negative as well... The base station REQUIRES a wired connection. In this world of WiFi, I find it hard to believe they could not put a wireless radio in the station to allow for it to be placed in more locations. I understand that the cameras can be, but being that the base station is where the siren is, if you have your router in a closet/basement/etc and have to put the base station there too, who will hear the siren? Obviously we all know that routers should be centrally located in a house to provide optimal WiFi reception, but in all honesty, I can't recall a single time where anyone I know has actually been able to do that. The camera batteries come with a full charge so there is no need to wait on them to charge for initial setup and use. In addition, the charger uses a micro usb cable of good length so there shouldn't be any difficulties locating this in a useful place. Once done connecting the base station and waiting for the somewhat lengthy boot up, it then becomes a simple task of installing the app on your phone and progressing through the inital set up phase (syncing cameras, etc). All is very straightforward and I was done in a matter of minutes, with the longest portion being the actual account creation with Netgear. The app allows for logging in with fingerprint if your device supports it, so that was nice to see. They give you the option of using the free standard 7-day 5-camera monitoring and cloud storage on initial setup, there are also 2 options for more devices and more length of time. I think in most cases the basic (free) plan is plenty for most home users. Usage: Immediately upon setup I was bombarded with notifications for motion sensing, so I had to go back that setting down in the app, again a fairly simple process. The video quality is phenomenal in daylight, I was very impressed, and while on the same network or on 4G LTE the framerate of the video is excellent. The view angle is good, allowing me to see a very large portion of a 20 ft wide family room from a centrally located fireplace mantle. Audio comes through well and I had no difficulties hearing what my family was doing in the room I had it set up in. The upgrade to 1080p over the previous generation Arlo is a welcome one and looks excellent. Dark performance was on par with most night-vision capable cameras, which is to say it worked well, but I wasn't blown away. The siren is extremely loud. I understand that this should go without saying, however in using other similar systems, one of the more common complaints is that the siren is too quiet. I can honestly say in this instance that is not the case. The battery life is excellent, with intermittent use I've gotten a great deal of life from the batteries, though if you leave the motion sensors and such enabled, I'm sure it will greatly reduce that longevity. The Amazon Alexa support is cool, and if you have an Echo Show, it allows you to view the cameras from the Echo itself, though unless you're using it for watching a baby sleep, or monitor who is at your front door, this would probably be of limited use. Bottom Line: The Netgear Arlo 2 stands out in that the cameras are completely wire-free. The motion sensitivity is good though it does not appear to 'learn', but there are adjustments for that sensitivity. I do think, however, that with the capability of adding more cameras to the unit, this may be one of the easiest ways for multi-point visual and motion security for many people, especially since you can really place the cameras anywhere. Really my only gripe with this set is the price. When competing against other options in the segment, this is on the higher end, especially when compared to other camera-only systems.
