Activity zones simply do not work

Purchased a 4 pack of these cameras and setup as per the instructions. All firmware was updated, etc. Also subscribed to the Arlo Smart Premier Multi Camera. I have been trying to get activity zones to work with no success. Have a support incident open with Arlo which is a complete waste of time as they treat you like an idiot and have you go through steps that you know are useless. The incident is still open and they have left me stranded. If you look at the community on Arlo's website at https://community.arlo.com/t5/Arlo-Pro-2/bd-p/en-arlo-pro-2 you will see that there are an amazing amount of people complaining about the same issue. No resolution. So if you cannot setup activity zones, your cameras will pick up every motion and the batteries will last a week at most. Unfortunately, Best Buy is not accepting returns due to the current coronavirus situation and have extended the period that I can return. Hopefully, I will be able to return this $650 junk that is accumulating interest on my credit card soon. Again - beware - read the reviews carefully about this issue. It's an unresolved bug and Arlo has chosen to leave their customers stranded.

I was provided a set of cameras to test for free in exchange for an unbiased review. The Arlo Pro 2 is a set of cameras that communicate with their own base unit and bills itself as a security system. While the "security system" part is really nothing more than a screeching siren that emanates from the base unit itself (there is no actual monitoring or any other such aspect to the product), the cameras themselves are reasonable in function and great in picture/video. For a standard, household camera, the two-camera set that I received would serve nicely for most folks' interests. They broadcast in 1080p HD, the night vision is more than reasonable under 25 feet, and the 7-day free cloud storage once an account is set up is actually pretty good when it comes to considering cameras for home use (most other companies charge for more than 24-hour storage). Additional storage tiers are available; they buy you the ability to attach more cameras to the system, lots of additional storage, and the ability to continuously record, similarly to a NVR (Network Video Recorder). Motion sensing when set to "Alarm" mode was very good. In tests at the house, anyone who moves into the camera's field of view will set recording off, and the recording doesn't stop until the subject has completely left the area. This clip is then stored in the cloud for later viewing. So far, there are two negatives I have with this system. First, there is only one USB cable/adapter plug to use between the two cameras. While the lithium-ion batteries are pretty substantial for the size of cameras we're dealing with here, I prefer to have all my cameras sourcing constant power. Instead, the cord is really only for recharging. Secondly, because of the camera's odd shape, it may only be positioned in certain ways without using the permanent wall mount. Across both plugged-in and wireless setups, audio and video was great, with little lag (the fact that all cameras communicate via a base unit likely helps in this regard). We're still playing with the wireless setup, so I'll have to see how long the battery lasts as well as how long it takes to charge. If you're looking for a good set of cameras that you don't mind having to recharge every so often, I'd definitely recommend these. They will not replace any alarm system you have, but they'll provide you with full-fledged audio and video connectivity around the house.

The Arlo system was not good, the cameras lagged about 5 seconds, someone would leave out the door and I wouldn’t see them show up in the library it would only show the door closing. I didn’t have any access to my library for the first 3 days of my purchase I called and was on hold for a whole hour and 30 minutes.

    Terrible wifi range

Let me start by saying I am a professional CCTV system technician. I install security systems for a living. I bought this Arlo system and installed as a "test run" to see how effective wireless camera systems would be for clients. If you have poor wifi, or an outdoor area to cover DO NOT BUY THESE! Even if you install the cameras within recommended distances they will drop out of range constantly, and the base station will disconnect from the internet all the time. Even with a wired internet connection to the base station, these things are still pretty useless! As I already mentioned, they will not reliably cover an outside area. The cameras will lose connection to the base station and stop recording for DAYS. The only camera that continuously recorded was the only camera inside the house. To be fair, this is an issue with ALL wireless camera systems, not just the Arlo. Also fair to note that another large contributor to the issue was poor wifi strength. However, I would still recommend to just spend the extra money and purchase an actual wired CCTV system if you want reliable home security.

They work ok. Live time is a bit off. I think they are too expensive. They lie about the battery charge. Come with only one outside mount.

One of my cameras started going off for no reason, I called Arlo and there's no help as a automated recording ask you to go to the app and click on support, which I did. its a chat bot that tells me that I don't have THE RIGHT TO A LIVE AGENT! and only the community can help me, so I need to read for hours to see if someone else encountered the same problem and resolved? this is pure BS. how can you sell a product and not give support? another one is that I turned off the sound alert on all 4 cameras but guess what/ still sending me sound alerts!! you can't stop alert on a camera unless you take it off the account (delete). live is on another level, it stop working all the time and a popup message tell you that they encounter a problem to try again. Long story short: no support, if a camera starts acting up, delete it from your account until you figure out something on your own, and don't count on live video

I honestly wish I could return this product. I bought this product in November 2019, early January 2020 I started having problems, got it fixed temporarily , problems came back mid feb and now I’m in May and I’ve spoken with 3+ Arlo agents and there’s no real help. Just the same problems. If you want half recording to no recordings although you are paying a monthly plan, these are for you!

Perhaps my box was DOA. As it would not sync to any of the cameras or recognize itself on the network search by Netgear, with all lights working. Wow. And the tech support is next to useless, once you get over the vaulting language barrier in place. But, I wasn't going to test that again considering the LACK of security this system forces upon you initially. First off, to view videos you'll have to view / download them from the cloud / online. Which is completely backwards of security. Meaning, your videos go online BEFORE you see them. As opposed to being recorded locally and optionally uploaded later... you're forced to be in the mercy of Netgear clouds. The only thing HOPEFULLY nice about this setup is the battery life. The best thing about this setup is the ease of camera positioning. Good luck with this system if your purpose is to implement a device to further your security.

The video quality is good. Setup was very easy. Recharging batteries is pretty fast(2hrs)and easy, and charge lasts for around 2 months. The app is also easy to use with the cameras. The downside to this camera is it doesn’t always work. Some days it doesn’t record any videos at all! Some days it will work fine then it will stop working for a few hrs. Other days it works great. Wish it was more dependable.

I’ve been a big fan of the Arlo line-up for quite some time. I think their cameras are great and the service they offer is pretty ok. What I never thought was great was having to pay $20 for replacement batteries that were non-rechargeable and typically only see use in camera flashes at best nowadays. Not anymore with the Pro. Netgear has listened to their users and provided us with some valuable changes from their original model. What I love about it: You can tell that when it came time to redesign the device, it was a complete re-imagining. The base station, changed. The cameras, completely changed. The service… about the same but I’m not complaining. What has changed on the base station - now there are fewer lights (not that the ones removed did anything) and a nifty siren. Siren is adequately loud and I can tell you that I didn’t even want to be in the same room when it was going off. Trust me on this, you don’t have to try it. If you were to though, it sounds very reminiscent of someone scratching their nails on a chalkboard through a loudspeaker. Up close, I’d imagine it would hurt quite a bit. The footprint seems a tad bit smaller, but I wouldn’t say it is a major selling point. The cameras? That’s where the changes are at. Microphones? Yep. Speaker for you to talk to intruders? Yep. IR mode? Check. Rechargeable batteries? FINALLY, YES! Also on the list of improvements that might not be noticed by most - the IR lights no longer make a clicking noise when they turn on. More covert viewing of your intruders is always a better thing. The cameras are slightly heavier than the older version now being that they now contain a rechargeable battery; weighing in at around ¾ of a pound. What still has some room to improve? For all the improvements offered, the cameras seemed to have slightly lower resolution or issues focusing. I am not entirely sure if it is related to positioning or if it is related to the sensor, but compared to my older device, it seems to have regressed a bit. Outside of the sensor issue, the video quality seems ok. Charging? Yeah… You have to remove them from their mounts and recharge through the camera. Meaning every time you need to charge, you have to reposition the camera again - a slight pain in the rear. Don’t get me wrong, the mount is fantastic; it’s magnetic and the camera sticks really well to it. But wait! There’s more! The size of the charging port on the back of the camera means that you either need to customize a cable with a rotary tool or you need to always use their provided cable. They provided one, but I also have about 15 other micro-USB cables that could do the job just as well if the housing wasn’t so tight. Unknowns: Battery life - it’s better than a recent competitors offering which had about two days. I’ve had these cameras going for over three days, still at 100% charge according to the app. Which in retrospect, might mean that I don’t need to reposition the camera all that often after charging. I’ve always had trouble with the geolocation on their app - I’m not sure if it is directly related to my cell providers’ tower or the app location services. But what I can see is that I can bounce between home and away very rapidly whilst sitting on the couch. Would I get it again? Yes. It is a bit expensive (but frequently on sale). It’s a great setup that takes next to no effort to get going. And now? I don’t need to buy CR123a batteries every few months.
