This product would be awesome if not for one single problem. The six camera outfit requires a paid subscription to Arlo service. Do not believe anything anybody tells you. You can only associate 5 cameras on your account even though it is clearly printed on the box that you can associate 6 cameras. Over the past 6 months, I have submitted two reviews on this product to warn people and they keep mysteriously disappearing.

    Decent cameras, Excellent Basic Plan

Setup was easy. Download the app, connect the base station, create an account, then sync the two cameras. About 20 min at a relaxed pace, including the firmware update. Figure out where to place and mount the cameras (probably the hardest part of installation) and you're done. The mounts are magnetic and the cameras just snap on and off. The cameras are weatherproof (and survived the rainstorm we had the day after installation). Nice touch is that the control panel is available by app(android/ios) or from a web browser, so you can view or download videos on a computer or your phone. They work similarly, very easy to use and intuitively laid out. Netgear maintained the 7 day basic (free) video storage. It is probably the most generous basic package around. Batteries are proprietary, but come fully charged and last for a long time. To charge you pull the camera out of the magnetic mount and connect it to the (also proprietary) micro-usb charger for an hour or two, then put the camera back. It's a small price to pay for not having to run wires out to a camera! The charger is a 9v charger, so your phone charger won't do. You don't remove the battery from the camera, the battery charges in the camera. Extra batteries and and external charger are available separately. Video quality is 1080p and noticeably improved over the older Pro, but is still not as good as some other 1080p wifi cameras; however, it's certainly adequate. The motion detect sensitivity is adjustable and video can be triggered by both/either motion or sound. The Pro 2 adds motion zones, so that only motion in a certain part of the frame will trigger recording. Audio is bidirectional and audio to the camera seems to work well for intercom type applications. Netgear has chosen the base station approach and this has its tradeoffs. Connecting cameras is trivial, and the base station has a port for a usb drive for local backup if the Internet connection goes down. Also, because they control the wifi parameters, the power consumption of maintaining the connection between camera and base station is very low when not recording, which is one reason the battery life is so good. The disadvantage is that you can't leverage the newer mesh routers for better performance and coverage. Netgear has chosen 2.4ghz wifi only for the cameras, which adds to the clutter on your 2.4Ghz wifi band. An additional inconvenience is that the base station requires a wired ethernet connection to your Internet router. Some of the newer routers are extremely wired port limited and may require an additional ethernet switch. Overall, the Arlo Pro 2 offers good quality recording, an excellent user interface, easy setup and camera placement, and probably the best Basic plan in the industry. It certainly should make the short list when considering a security system.

If you want it to just be a camera you can see from great. Itll work for you, if you want it to record video its "6 month battery life" will last 2 days before needing to climb a ladder and recharge everything. Returned

Clear visuals, easy to setup, some major issues

What jumps out from the Arlo Pro 2 Security Camera System is the very good picture image. The wirefree cameras run on rechargeable batteries and come with simple to install wall mounts. The high-res, 1080p HD video quality is clear in daylight, and the night vision is passable for a good distance. The app is easy to use and gives you mobile access to your camera. I did not set up the free trial cloud service which is included with the system. Depending on where you are monitoring, however, the battery life will vary based on the visual activity being recorded. The device went offline multiple times which I attributed to battery issues. You can set up the sensitivity to adjust motion recognition but only with the cameras wired; for most people, this might be a little bit of a drawback. Also, the two-way sound quality needs improvement as it is not very loud at all in both directions. Overall, the Arlo Pro 2 has some nice qualities including the nice visuals and easy setup. If you are using it primarily indoors and wired in, then it is a decent camera system. But as an outdoor security system, I just don't think I could trust it to monitor my home 24/7 while running specifically battery-powered, which is the main draw for the system. I do not recommend this product. Full disclosure, I received this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Waste of Money, Defective/ Netgear Support Useless

I purchased an Arlo 2 4 camera pack from best buy and it's been nothing but problems since I've received it. Through a 2 month long support ticket with Netgear's Arlo support portal, it was deemed that my base station was defective and needed to be replaced. Getting them to give me any information though regarding how to perform the replacement has been close to impossible, with them claiming that they are working on it and then a week later closing my ticket without actually providing the information I need to send my product back for replacement. Would you spend this kind of money on a product that clearly isn't supported in terms of workmanship or them honoring their warranty? I certainly wouldn't and will likely never buy another Netgear product again.

I've had this thing for almost 2 years now and I should have returned it on the first day when I discovered all the advertised features were behind a pay wall. Free version gets you a notification EVERY time there i motion, you have to pay if you want it to specify between vehicle, person, or other. TO TOP IT OFF, the app still used FLASH which has been unsupported by nearly all browsers since 2016, so you constantly get a warning about it. But also the app logs you out every time. Even on my app I'm forced to log in every time. But tonight was the last straw. Someone was trying to break into my front door, and as soon as I tried logging in it signed me out and then wouldn't let me sign in. My wife tried on her phone, same thing. I tried on the computer, same thing. Good thing the burglar was unsucessful and left, but now I have to buy A REAL security camera. DON'T BUY THIS GARBAGE HARDWARE WITH EVEN MORE OUTDATED GARBAGE SOFTWARE.
