easy to set up and nice video quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is our first experience with a security camera system. So far I would say that the biggest plusses to the Arlo Pro 2 are that it is easy to set up and maintain and it gives one 7 days of free cloud storage. Set up simply involves connecting the Arlo base to your home router and then syncing each of the cameras to the Arlo base. This is easy and went quite smoothly. We placed our two Arlo cameras outside. They are protected by patio covers, but the cameras are weather resistant so outside placement should not be an issue. The kit did not come with any of the screw type Arlo mounts so we purchased two for the purpose of mounting them outside. It would be nice if the price was a bit lower than the $19.99 that Netgear charges for these adjustable mounts. Also, we thought Netgear is missing out on an opportunity to sell some sort of security cage or lock system for these cameras. If one was to use one of the supplied magnetic mounts in this kit someone would only have to be within reach of the camera to walk off with it. For the optional mount we purchased they do have to go to the trouble to unscrew the camera from the mount which takes a bit more time but with additional cameras costing $220.00 a piece this is probably a concern for most owners. As far as the daily use of the Arlo Pro 2 system we find it very easy to use. The Arlo app is fairly intuitive and allows one to view recorded video or live video. We have found the video to be of excellent quality and one can lessen the recording quality to achieve longer battery time if desired. We have been using our system for about a week and have seen little drain on the batteries thus far. The app also includes a 100 db alarm button that is actually quite loud. This is sure to draw some attention if one was in need of help. A user can set up notifications in the app to get email or push notifications when motion is detected. We have found the motion sensor and notification to lag just a little bit which is probably due to the wireless setup, but this lag is pretty negligible. In summary, the Arlo Pro 2 wireless, 1080P cameras are easy to setup and use. The quality and look of the system is nice and should meet the needs of most users. I feel there is room for Netgear to improve on the security of the mounting system, especially for outdoor use. Thus far in our use of the system we have only had one hiccup where the app indicated "Arlo system is experiencing an unexpected problem at this time". After trying the app a bit later the problem no longer existed and everything was working fine.

Bad price for quality
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It takes a long time to start recording. By the time it starts recording, the person has already walked by out of view and you get just get a recording of the persons head (for example). I have tried changing the units to different heights and locations and the same thing happens. The app is not good either. You can’t change the time it records.

Battery life is terrible.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All the reviews I read and videos I saw mentioned the wireless cameras will last 4-6 months with out charge. I have had the cameras for 1 week and it is already at 20%. Every time I’m home I have to turn off camera so I don’t get bombarded by notifications of movement. Annoying to do everyday.

Neat convenient security system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good with this security system. First off this is a cool looking system. It has a sleek, modern look to it. Set up is straight-forward and easy right out of the box. Like most devices, an app is the best way to set it up (though, fortunately, isn't actually required). If you choose not to download the app you can use your computer to set up your cameras. Once your internet connection is established and everything is connected a firmware update for the cameras will likely be required. The cameras can be seen by logging into your account on a computer from anywhere, OR straight from the app. This is a netgear product, so if you have an existing account you can link it when you complete your set up. The cameras pick up picture and sound. The cameras are small and easy to mount.either indoors or out. The system includes mounting hardware. They can be set up to record whenever motion is detected, and you can adjust how long they record after motion is detected as well. You can access your recordings anytime through your account, which is cool. There doesn't appear to be localized recording. There is good and bad to this, of course. The system includes a week of storage (1 gb of cloud storage) for up to five cameras. All recordings are stored on "the cloud." There isn't a way to set up to your own cloud (where you likely have more storage) which I don't like, and there also isn't a "fail-safe" recording cloud, so if netgear's cloud is down (which happens) you have no access. You can add more cameras to this system at any time, which is very cool. The camera's have very good picture and sound quality. The recordings I've watched so far have all looked really good. The night-vision is adequate, but only really works within 20 feet or so. The biggest negatives I've found are the lack of offline recording, and the included mounts. The magnet mounting system is cool, but if you're mounting outdoors it also means the camera is easy to walk off with. Also the mount itself can really only be installed vertically on a wall, which limits it's uses a bit. If you try to mount from an overhang (such as under a deck) the camera can't be turned to a correct angle. In those cases additional hardware is necessary. If you want or need additional recording storage it's available...for a price, of course. The price isn't huge, but it adds up, and you're locked into it if you need it. Overall this is a good inexpensive system for home security, with a couple of minor drawbacks.

Beware of these 5 star reviews
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Own both Arlo Pro and Pro 2. Now the bad news. Arlo has been increasing the video compression to reduce their storage demand over the past year or so so you DO NOT get close to effective resolution advertised. Latest firmware update from April 2020 cripples these cameras further by massively pixelating there video feeds, especially on the moving subject. This vendor has had a poor track record on updates and lack of sufficient testing before releases. Since you cannot currently elect to receive these updates, you are at the mercy of these software developers when they force update your hardware. I question these recent reviews since April. A lot of glowing “quality” reviews from aliases that are colorful. Not sure these reviews are legit. Look at their online forums or even other market websites that indicate “verified purchases” to get a better picture of what the real story is.

Arrived defective - hours on phone w Arlo support
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did a lot of research and compared this product against others, ultimately thinking this would be best for my needs. Unfortunately it arrived not as depicted (different, supposedly newer base station VMB4500 with only one LED light not the 3 depicted on the product image). Base station blinks amber and cannot connect via app or web browser, verified base station is recognized by router (a Netgear product too...). Online Arlo support had me try new Ethernet cables, several resets and rebooks but all the same problem. Now looks as though item is out of stock. I needed a functioning camera system working for this week, it now seems as though it may be a few weeks to get it resolved. Very disappointed.

My Review of Arlo Pro 2
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, I have never owned a security camera system. The first principles of security is deterrence. Installed dual security doors, motion sensor flood lights, and fake security cameras with real signs that the premises are under surveillance. Now I have a real security camera system with the Arlo Pro 2 (VMS4230P) to see and record anything that moves in my front yard and back. I was considering buying a system with wired cameras because I was skeptical of the battery life and a wireless setup. Well I'm a believer now. The setup is very simple. Just install the camera battery, connect the base station to your router/ethernet, pair the cameras to the base station with a push of buttons, create an Arlo account with Netgear website, and install the Arlo App on my smart phone. That's it. The features work well. If you setup with Notifications, then whenever a camera senses motion or sound a message will popup on your phone stating that a camera (you can name it like "front door camera") detected motion/sound. You can then open the App to view the recording clip or watch live. Your video clips are stored in your library cloud, not in the base station or hard drive where it could be stolen. I can even turn on a loud alarm on the base station remotely. This system has all of the features that I want (as far as I know :-). The Arlo App and unit is easy to use and intuitive. I can say that because I downloaded the full user manual from Netgear.com and have yet to read it. I think that I have used all of its features and settings without reading it but I'm sure there is more. I guess it is a good thing to be able to use it with just the included setup guide. The camera is HD quality. I'm not sure about the night vision. The speed of the clips which are automatically loaded onto your private library cloud is fast. I really like the different system modes which are basically the rules you set for sensing and recording. I even created a custom mode called "While at Home" to keep from recording my family going in and out. I also like the geofencing mode where the system arms itself when me and my phone leaves the house after a certain distance. The wireless range is good but does have limits with distance/obstacles. I did not have many expectations since this is my first system. That said, I really like it! It is not difficult to operate and manage. Now I can leave the house and don't have to wonder/worry about it. I just open the App on my phone wherever I am and view the clip library or watch live. Compared to the systems (wired) that I was thinking of purchasing, the price is higher. However, compared to wireless systems it is competitive. I have used it for a month and the battery meter shows 100% for one camera and 50% for the other. I used the latter one to record inside while we are home so it got a lot more clips. So your battery life before needing a re-charge depends upon among many things its recording activity. Battery technology has advanced fast lately, so I expect these will last several years. I searched online for a replacement battery price just for reference and average is $50. The included mounts are ok if you are just mounting them on a wall. I needed something more so I purchased the stand-off swivel mounts to be able to set the cameras in many other places. I'm certain that the wireless security camera systems is competitive market. If Netgear Arlo is one of the pioneers, then they will be one step ahead of the competition when others enter into it. The reliability of my Netgear gadgets has been excellent so I have no problem recommending them to others. If anything changes, then I will update my review. As a participant of the First Look Review Program for NETGEAR, I received this product for free as part of a review and test program. To participate, I agreed to provide an unbiased usability and performance review. If there was something that I don't like, then I would say it.

Not for outdoors ,regardless what they say
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Read all reviews before you buy.The batteries go out quick on the cameras. They will not hold a charge. I had only a month. If you don't get a protection plan you will regret it ,because now you have to go the manufacturer warranty and it takes forever to get a response.
