The Arlo Pro 2 Wireless HD Security Cameras are easy to install and provides a great sense of security that you know who is "lurking" around your home. The push notifications you receive via your mobile phone alert you when there is motion or sound detected. You can adjust the motion sensitivity so it's not sending you alerts every time a car drives by or a neighbor walks their dog (lessons learned). The 1080p HD video is great! We have had a Zmodo system and a Ring doorbell. It is much higher quality video than the Zmodo system and just as good or maybe a little better than the Ring doorbell. The night vision quality is definitely better than our Zmodo system. It comes with 7 days of free cloud recording so there is no extra cost if don't want to go back further than 7 days. The only time we have used our videos have always been less than 48 hours - so we knew this was going to work for us and we would not have to purchase a paid plan. This system is easy enough for one person to install and simple enough to set-up and manage through the application.

hate them! I tried to return them to Best Buy but i was not able to do so bc you have 17 days take them back. I called Arlo and they don't accept returns. So, I have to keep them: I don't recommend Arlo. I'm very unhappy with Arlo and Best Buy.

Nice and easy set up (If you can install a phone app; you are good to go) and flawless functionality. For my test, I set up the system and installed the cameras in under 30 minutes (not counting the 20 minutes I played with the cameras). When thinking about security, this system is everything, you want for home video security. Obviously, larger areas like an office or large home might require more than just two cameras or maybe a different system due to the Wi-Fi range being limited. I like the indoor aspect (outdoors has some other requirements that I did not test) because of five things 1.sound quality is good enough and a neat feature 2. picture quality is 1080p with zooming in the replay capability 3. infrared 4. easily placed on a book self for no drilling installation 5. the app is awesome (even works with Alexa). Overall, I found this system to be of very high quality and would gladly recommend this to anyone. I really kept this review short and sweet because the system is that simple... turn on -setup- works!

After much effort at getting this system to work (called tech support, reset system, etc) we found out that this system worked great until May of this year when the company did a computer software upgrade. Since then, multiple issues. Go with another brand.

Easy to Use but Video Quality Could be Better

The Arlo Pro 2 system is meant to be a security solution for home owners and small businesses. The kit I got came with 2 cameras with batteries and a base station. The base station needs to be hard wired to your network, it does not work over wireless, however the cameras can be used wirelessly. The system itself was very easy to setup, just plug the base station into power and ethernet, put the batteries into the camera (batteries come fully charged) and use the Arlo app to continue the setup. Not counting firmware updates the overall setup time is maybe as little as 10 minutes. The video quality you get from the system looks decent when viewed through the app but is highly compressed when you download the video to analyze it. The tree in my front yard (only 12 feet from camera) was a pixelated mess of green as the wind blew the leaves. Nightvision seems to have a very short range. Despite having a 1080p camera sensor the video quality is nowhere near that. I made sure the cameras were set to "Best Video Quality" and at least 1 camera was only 8 feet from the base station. You'll definitely be able to show the police what actions a person took but if you are hoping for something that will clearly identify a person at range you might be disappointed. Especially if that person is moving quickly. Otherwise, there's a lot to like here. The app works very well and it's easy to use. The cameras themselves are attractive and have a good weight to them. I absolutely love the magnetic mounting system. It makes it easy to mount with only 1 screw required and you can easily angle the camera anyway you need to. There is a free plan that keeps 7 days of recordings. The Good - Easy to setup and use with mobile app Wireless but can be used wired Soiar option available to keep battery charged. Motion Alerts seem to work as intended. Extremely loud siren Easy magnetic mount system makes it easy to remove outdoor cameras and charge them up Basic plan includes free 7-days of cloud recording - paid plans with more options available. Cameras are a good design, proper weight to them (lot of that is battery) The Bad - Video quality is poor at best. The night vision has a short range, might be hard to see subject's face unless very close to camera. Extra cameras are pricey. Must use base station, other cameras exists that are completely wireless. I found that the app drains battery when in use on iPhone. Overall, these are really good but with modern smartphone sensors able to take 4K video that looks incredible I'm not sure why video quality is only so-so on a camera such as this? Especially a kit as expensive as this. I'm still recommending it because I think that the simplicity and ease of use goes a long way for a lot of people, probably more so than crystal clear video quality.

Returned! Camaras are not worth the price if you are actually looking for security (security) only records 30 sec for every motion on a 7 days rolling. DOES NOT RECORD CONTINUES AND YOU COULD NOT PLAY BACK UNLESS MOTION WAS DETECTED

When I was in the market for a camera system for my home, the Arlo line of devices were never on my radar. I just didn't think that a battery operated camera that only recorded when it saw motion would be reliable. Well, after I saw the improvements Netgear has done with the Arlo cameras, I decided to go ahead and try the new Arlo Pro 2 cameras. I would like to start off by saying Wow. I did not know just how handy these cameras could be. I am currently using them inside my home to monitor while I am away. They offer Geofencing Mode, which when you are at home, it will not send any alerts to your phone, but as soon as you leave a certain distance from your home, the system gets armed and starts recording all motion. What is nice is that you can customize your own modes too. For example, when I am at home, I created a mode that would still record motion, just not send me a push alert. This is helpful for monitoring activity during the night and catching it on video, without getting the constant buzz from your phone. Speaking of video recording, I am surprised by the clarity I am getting of the Arlo cameras. It is sharp and has nice night vision. And the Base station is small enough to hide away in your home (and it includes an extremely loud siren, which is a great deterrent). All recordings are saved in the cloud for 7 days for free, which is a rather nice change from other companies charging just for any access to old recordings (Note: they do offer subscriptions to extend recording storage time). You will be controlling these cameras mostly through the Arlo app, which is decent enough. It can be a bit finicky to navigate and find certain settings (took me a while to find how to turn off email alerts), and I hope that these cameras can be updated to support HomeKit. At the end of the day, I am very happy that I gave these cameras a chance and so far I'm really happy with what they provide.

Solid performance with a few small negatives

    Posted .

In researching the Arlo 2, I found that reviews seemed to be either 5 stars, I love it, or 1 star, I hate it, with little or no descriptions. I do not find this type of emotional review to be very helpful one way or the other. So I will endeavor to provide actual helpful information in my review. My initial expectations were actually a bit negative based on the reviews I found online and on my own engineering background making me doubt a few of the design features of the product. I installed the product the weekend before Thanksgiving and wanted to use it for a while to provide an accurate review. In my application, two cameras are installed in the front of the house. One covers the front facing driveway and the other above the front door. Both cameras are setup of be on 24/7. I had my doubts about the battery power versus hardwired and the hassles that might cause, the magnetic mount, and the video quality (because of reviews I had found.) The initial setup of the cameras is extremely simple. Follow the few steps on the quick start card and you are quickly done with connecting the base to your wifi network and the cameras to the base. Not much to see here. I was disappointed in the magnetic mounts that are provided with the product. They are a cool design, but I would hesitate to ever use them outside. It seems rather dumb to have a mount that the camera can be knocked off of easily and rendered useless or stolen. I could see using these inside where that is not a concern. But I think that both the magnetic and the screw type bases should come with the product. I find the picture quality to be excellent, both during the day and at night. One of the main negatives I saw in other reviews was that the quality at night was poor. I have not noticed that at all. To be fair, my location does have some ambient light provided from porch lights at night, so it is not pitch black dark. Over the time I have had the cameras, I have played with the picture quality (mainly related to battery life) and find the quality excellent at all settings. On to my biggest initial concern - battery life. My first thoughts were that the idea of a rechargeable battery was cool, but if it needed recharging weekly (as some reviews complained) the idea would backfire and be completely offset by the hassle of getting a ladder, removing the camera, charging, etc. I am happy to report that this is not the case. Both cameras lasted well over a month on the highest quality setting and, remember, both are on 24/7 and see a fair amount of movement. On the most efficient setting, where they are now, they seem to be on track to last longer. Now to some negatives or complaints regarding things I believe could have been better, whether in the design or the concept. Keep in mind though, that none of these are deal breakers. Charger cable port location: The location of the micro usb port is hard to get to if the camera is mounted on the wall. I have found that it is easier to just take it down to charge. If the location were easier to access, I could just plug the cord into the front porch outlet and charge in place. Power Options: The two camera box I received only comes with one charger and cord. While it appears to be a normal micro usb charger, the instructions are specific that you must use that cord and plug. So you would have to purchase an additional set if you wanted to just plug them in all the time. Solar Chargers: I decided to add a solar charge to the camera that I have on the driveway because it is a little harder to get at to charge. First I picked up a charge that claimed to be compatible online because the netgear panel seemed kind of ridiculously expensive for a simple solar charge. This charger did not work at all, it actually caused that battery to go dead in 12 hours. A bit of research suggests that Netgear updated the units in some way to make only the Netgear brand charger work. I returned the off brand and purchased the Netgear brand and it works great. It was only a $20 difference. Not the end of the world, but this combined with the other Netgear accessory pricing, all of which is very pricey, feels a little like gouging. Though to be fair, the Netgear charger does feel better built, so may be entirely worth the difference in the end anyway. Instructions and App: While the initial setup instructions are very simple and easy, there is not really much more in the way of using features or advanced setting. The app is pretty straight forward for basic use, but again, the more advanced features are pretty hazy. Then there are features that only work if the unit is hardwired. For my application, where I simply want them on 24/7 and don’t care about schedules and geofences, this has not been a problem. But if you wanted to get fancier, you would have to do some research and trial and error, as there simply are not instructions for more advanced usage. Overall, I have been much much happier with this product than I honestly expected to be. It works very well, was simple to setup and is simple to use. I do not think it is perfect, but the flaws are pretty easy to live with or bypass by purchasing accessories that you could argue should have been included. I would definitely recommend this camera system to any level of technical comfort for basic home monitoring. If you did not guess from some of the comments, I did receive this 2 camera system for free as part of a testing group. I strongly believe that such arrangements place a large amount of responsibility on the recipient to provide a detailed and absolutely honest review and have done my best to do so. I did not exhaustively research this product or alternative products for pricing or features, so cannot comment on that perspective. But from a simple use and functional standpoint, this is a pretty solid product that works well and all my negatives are fairly small.

The Arlo Pro 2 system is an easy to use, highly functional security system that is a great choice for many use cases. However, there are inherent limitations that need to be considered. Pros: Easy of use - The Arlo Pro 2 is a breeze to get up and running. The intuitive app and modes allow you to quickly access and make changes on the go. Picture/ audio quality - After owning the original Arlo, I was VERY impressed with the quality of the video and audio recording of these cameras. The motion detection and IR lights are also top notch. Finally, I have been very pleased with the battery life. Cons: Latency - Although not unexpected with a wireless camera system, there is a fairly significant delay in live video/ audio. Luckily, this does not affect the timing of recording/ motion detection alerts, but it does SIGNIFICANTLY impact it's usefulness with 2 way audio or for those who may consider using the cameras as a real-time baby monitor.

This is a great set up both hardware and software/app. Set up/connection was very easy as was setup. Just put the camera where you think it should go and you can use the app to adjust as it will reduce the lag time. There is about 3-4 seconds of lag time under normal viewing. You can set the cameras to notify you for movement, sound or both. You can individualize your system to notify you by camera or as a whole. With the standard membership you are able to store recordings and have them sent to you as notifications. The base also has a built in siren you can use manually or automatically based on how you arm your system. One of the best features is the ability to listen and talk through the camera, I have had tons of fun with my kids, trust me on this. The cameras work very well in low/no light as well as inside and outside. All things considered this is a great investment for security and entertainment, highly recommend.

I have been very pleased with this camera. I had it installed and running within 10 minutes of opening the box (the batteries came fully charged). Installation was simple, requiring only one screw each to mount the camera. The picture quality is very good with only a slight lag. The geofencing and alerting features work great and are very handy. On battery life: I have had these running for a couple of weeks now and the battery still shows to be fully charged. have been using a cheap wired camera and while it works it didn't give me all the functionality that I wanted. I have been researching the Arlo cameras since they were released a few years ago. The first generation cameras were ok but had some major flaws to them. NETGEAR has fixed a lot of those with the Arlo Pro 2 cameras. I think it took me 10 minutes to open the box, plug in the base station and configure the Arlo Pro 2 cameras. The iOS app is very intuitive and made it very easy to walk through each step to configure the cameras exactly as I wanted them to function. I placed one camera inside to watch my back door and installed the other outside to watch my driveway. I purchased NETGEAR black sleeves and swivel mount to disguise the camera. It now blends very well with the outside of the house. You can create different modes, which I have an Outside Only mode as well as the default All Armed or All Disarmed mode. If you run power to your cameras (which they now offer outside power cables), you get more features like specific zone settings and 3 second recording before an event is triggered. I have already used the microphone and speaker to talk a delivery man. It works well but you have to get used to the slight lag before talking. The system also has the ability to tie in with IFTTT triggers and I plan on testing it with my Phillips Hue lights for extra security. The camera has worked fully to my expectations. It triggers recordings from motion and sound. I had a car sitting in front of my house that was slightly out of view but the camera could hear the engine and kept recording. The view quality during the day is almost perfect, the only issue I have is night vision. I don't expect the camera to be perfect at night, but I think the quality can be a little better. It does pick up motion at night and recorded cats that have walked through my yard. Recordings are kept for 7 days for free and I have connected an external drive for local backups. I have been using these camera for about 3 weeks with about 20 recordings a day and the battery has barely decreased. I expect to get around 5 to 6 months on a single charge. I love these cameras and would like to get at least 2 more to be able to cover the rest of my house. With every release NETGEAR is making a better and better product. I have had a few neighbors take a look at my system and they are looking to purchase this unit as well. I received the Arlo Pro 2 Wire-Free Security System with 2 HD Cameras from NETGEAR as part of a review and test program but this has not influenced the rating of this review.
