Great upgrade to Arlo 1st Gen System!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently upgraded from the first generation Arlo wireless system to the Pro 2 system and we could not be happier. The rechargeable batteries along with sound/voice are great additions, along with the crisper video and more refined movement recognition. Set-up was a breeze, especially because it was basically an unplug and replace on the existing cables from the original version. Linking the cameras (including (2) new ones and (2) existing ones) was simple as well. The app is almost exactly the same as previous but with a few nice additions mainly to activate the microphone to speak through the cameras. We are very happy with the upgraded version and have had no issues with the rechargeable batteries after a few weeks of use averaging roughly ~30mins of HQ footage a day. Disclaimer: we received this product as part of a review and test pilot program through Netgear. Thank you for the opportunity Netgear!

Geofencing Security Cameras
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, this camera system was extremely easy to setup, geofencing is a great feature once configured correctly, and I truly feel I can set it and forget it. Setup took less than five minutes. The camera batteries came pre-charged. The base unit needs to be plugged into the router using Ethernet. The cameras need to be synced to the base unit, but it was easy to do. I did not have an opportunity to use USB storage recording, but it looked simple to setup. The cameras are relatively small - about the size of a medium apple, but not as wide. The batteries are rated to last 4-6 months, much longer than I anticipated. This is one reason 'set it and forget it' works - you only have to move/charge the cameras maybe 2-3 times per year. The ability to move the cameras is convenient, since I can quickly change the configuration or temporarily remove the cameras if needed. The cameras mount magnetically to included hardware, and it seems very sturdy. The night vision worked well indoors. I did not test the night vision outdoors. The app is straightforward and easy to use, and for me setting up geofencing was a necessity. Combined with the wireless cameras, this makes the Arlo system highly effective. Since setting up geofencing, I haven't had any excess phone notifications - the system easily detects when I am home and away, and adjusts accordingly whether it is on or off. You can add other users on the Arlo app so geofencing responds to multiple people, but I did not test this feature. If you are used to 'Activity Zones' from previous Arlo cameras, they are disabled if the cameras are on battery power. For me, this was not a problem, but it's something to consider if you have pets. My only complaint with the geofencing feature was that on the iOS app, it will not work if your phone's name has spaces or other characters in it. I've been told they are working on fixing this bug, so it may not be a problem in the near future. Either way, I was able to re-name my phone to use the feature. I would recommend the Arlo system to anyone who wants to monitor their home and wants the flexibility to move the cameras easily. The wireless cameras and geofencing make this system in particular very easy to set up, use, and forget about (in a good way). I received my Arlo Pro 2 Wire-Free Security System with 2 HD Cameras from NETGEAR as part of a review and test program.

Great camera, very impressed!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system was very easy to setup. I had the system up and running in about 10 minutes. The clarity in video is impressive both during the day and with night vision. The wire free camera’s and the free cloud storage option are awesome. I am able to put the camera’s anywhere I want and have the video uploaded automatically within seconds with no recurring monthly fees. There is also a magnet on the back of each camera so it is possible to put these up without the bracket. I also bought one for my mom. She needed something simple and effective. I have been showing all my friends how easy it is to monitor the camera’s through the very simple to use phone application. The videos in the application are very responsive, even over a 4G LTE connection. I highly recommend it! The best security camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to setup and very easy to place your camera, you can place the camera anywhere and the camera battery last a long time. Camera viewing angle is very wide and the alarm is very loud. Camera has night vision and very good motion sensor that does not get tricked by change of lighting. It comes with free online plan where it will automatically record video and notify you via an app when alarm is triggered. The recorded video is very good, sharp and clear. I own many security cameras including Foscam, Annke, z-ben and Hikvision and this is the best security camera.

Good Inside, needs more for outdoors
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So OVERALL, this is one of the better overall camera systems out there. Takes about 15 minutes to do the initial setup, including firmware updates. Needs some additional accessories, if planning to use outdoors. Pros: - The two cameras have extremely good video, for their small size. - Can be used cordless, so you don't necessarily need to have wires running to them (note will have to recharge batteries) - Sleek looking, not ugly... so noticeable, but not out of place - Home base station, creates a separate wifi network (see cons as well). So it won't fight for network space on your home network, and makes setup straight forward. - Allows for a USB device to hooked up to base, for local in home storage of video - has a FREE BASIC video plan, so you can have 7 days of cloud storage at no extra cost - Alarms and motion sensitive are good, and configurable - Can add more cameras to the single base unit - Comes with everything you need for INDOOR usage Cons: - Since it creates it's own wifi network, your are limited to the range of the base unit. So in a larger house, this can get to be a problem especially if you are going to hook cameras outdoors. No option to utilize your existing wifi network (such as a spread out eero system), to provide extended range - Even though the cameras are weather proof, the hardware to mount outdoors is an accessory - Powering the units outdoor full time, will require a way to get the accessory adapters, run so they are protected from the weather - As of right now, software doesn't allow multiple "Modes" and configurations.

Garbage don't buy, not reliable.
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not buy, not reliable. Constantly loses connection to internet when it's plugged in hardwired to the router. My ring alarm system never disconnects and it's wireless. I have to reboot the base everyday. Used it for 6 months.

Perfect security camera for everyone!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overview: I have to confess, I'm a bit of a CCTV snob. I currently have 2 semi-commercial grade small dome cameras installed in my house that are connected to a network attached storage device via cat5 (POE). I access these cameras via an app on my iPhone. Until I received the Arlo’s, I thought this was the way to go. Who wants to be bothered with charging a batteries!! With the Arlo’s, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve heard of them in passing, but have not looked into them much. Setup: So I get the Arlo box which contains a base station (about the size of a router), 2 cameras, rechargeable batteries, magnetic bases for the camera and some cables. Included is a 16 page quick start guide, within 10 minutes (and I took my time), I had the cameras up and running!! It’s incredible. I even had the app downloaded and created a login within those 10 minutes. Steps include: setup account, unpack stuff - put batteries into camera, plug in the power cable and cat 5 to the base station, press the sync button on top of base station, press the sync button on camera and that’s it. To mount the cameras, you screw in 1 screw and anchor if needed, than slide the bracket over that screw, that’s it. The camera will stick to it magnetically. Obviously you want to mount this in a place where someone can’t reach up and take it, but at the same time, somewhere you can easily access to take it off and charge. Also, keep in mind if you mount it too high, you might only see the hat or head of the guy who stole your Amazon box! Functionality and features: This camera system can do everything my fancier setup can do, maybe a bit more. The list of features is lengthy, here are some of the features I find important: 1080p (Arlo Pro and Arlo are 720p), nightvision, rechargeable batteries, USB local storage, works with Alexa, 2 way audio, and obviously completely wireless. Arlo app: The Arlo app is very easy to use and is used to do everything: monitor cameras, 2 way audio, setup alarm modes, view recorded camera footage, view status (battery and wifi strength, armed mode). I shared the app with my wife, I also tried to share my log in info. It didn’t work, once she logged in, I was kicked off. To let her use the app and access the cameras, I had to go into settings and grant her access, excellent controls. Modes: I’m impressed with the different modes you can “armed” the cameras. You can setup the camera and “arm it”, sort of like what you would do with a burglar alarm. When armed, the camera would send you email when it detects motion and/or audio. It makes sense because if you were home, you’d get spammed if the camera kept sending you emails every time it detected motion or sound. These settings are very flexible, you can arm 1 or both of the cameras, have it notify you when it detects motion, audio or both and you can set the sensitivity for both. Not only that, but you can also set a schedule so cameras arm themselves based on time or even geofencing, when a cell phone is detected. This is very well thought out and very impressive. I don’t think I have to this extent, number of settings on my existing security cameras. So to test it out, I armed 1 camera that I’ve mounted on the back of my house facing a gate. I wake up in the morning and noticed a notification on my phone from the Arlo app. It had recorded a snippet of video when it detected a loud noise, a truck passing by on a nearby highway. During the day, it detected a squirrel on my deck and than some wind noise. To fix the wind noise, I went into the app and lowered the audio sensitivity from a 3 to a 2, it’s that simple. So over the course of 24 hours, no false alarms. I have it set to pop up on my phone and send me an email when an event occurs. You can even set it so the 100+ decibel alarm on the base station to go off when it detects an event. Storage: With the purchase of the camera kit, 7 day cloud recording is included up to 5 cameras. There are packages that range from $99.99-149.99 annually, this would give you more days of storage and support for more cameras. I find these rates to be very reasonable. For my existing cameras, I use my NAS which has no monthly cost, but the initial setup cost me well over $500, but I use my NAS for other purposes as well. For a dedicated camera monitoring services, this is very reasonable. Another popular company that makes fancy thermostats and cameras charges $10 a camera and $5 each additional camera for 10 days storage, if you want more than 10 days of monitoring its $30 a month! I plugged in a USB drive to the Arlo base. It recognized it immediately, you can find it in the Settings - base station - local storage. After several hours, I unplugged it (safely eject from Arlo app) and plugged it into my PC, sure enough, the 3 event were recorded on there in 1080p! Very nice. Alexa: I was so happy to see that the Arlo cameras are Alexa compatible, another project of mine. It seems like more and more devices coming out, whether its a vacuum cleaner, sprinkler control panel, are all Alexa compatible. It only makes sense that Arlo is as well. I don’t have an Echo Show yet, but I do have FireTV’s. To set this up, you add the “Arlo” skill in the Alexa app. On the FireTV, you simply hold the microphone down and say “show me backyard - (or whatever you’ve named your cameras) and like magic, it’ll pop up on the TV. I tried it a few times, it works well, sometimes a bit sluggish. I would just repeat the command and it popped up faster. Also works with SmartThings and IFTTT. Conclusion: This camera set has opened my eyes to wireless cameras. My first impression was why bother, such a hassle to replace batteries etc. I have had this camera going for 1 week, the battery is at 92% now. Keep in mind I was playing around with it quite a bit. In the week I’ve had these, I’ve already recommended this camera system to 5 friends who were looking into camera systems. They were all turned off by the work involved…snake a cat 5 through walls to each camera…and the price. This set is a great starter set, everything you need for peace of mind. The camera hardware seems to be well made as well, it should last years. Nicely done Netgear! Pros: - easiest installation ever. - 1080p video quality - Decent battery life, estimated to be 4-6 months - 2 way audio - Siren to alert you of activity - Nightvision - Flexibility of various arming modes - Geofencing Cons: - Unless you have the camera’s plugged into power, you can’t set a particular area to detect motion. - Easy to steal (Arlo has screw down mounts available, screw mount to side of house, the other end screws into the Arlo camera)

Powerful & Easy Home Security
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After living with the Arlo Pro 2 for a couple months, I am very satisfied with the product's performance as well as the ease of use of the service. While I did not originally see any need for a home security system, a string of front-porch package delivery thefts in the neighborhood made the Arlo a deterrent simply by its presence. Someone snooping through the window near our front door noticed the camera and quickly turned tail and took off! Pulling a high-res image from the captured video for the local police was extremely easy. Set up and use of the Arlo Pro 2 is intuitive and easy. You can configure and monitor the system through a web portal or mobile app. I've been using the Arlo app for iPhone which makes remote monitoring of cameras, recordings and the rest of the system easy and convenient. The iPhone app seems to work as well over cellular data as with a Wi-Fi connection. Before committing to exterior positions for mounting the cameras (facilitated by a slick magnetic mount design,) I used the cameras indoors pointed through windows at exterior traffic areas. This presented some challenges as interior glass reflection can trigger motion detection. Positioning the cameras on exterior mounts should be done to avoid direct or angular sunlight producing excessive glare and compromising the image. Properly positioned HD image quality is exceptional. Battery life of the wireless cameras has been very good, 5+ weeks before needing a charge. Mileage will vary depending on how much motion activity they see. There are solar and hardwired options for the cameras which expand the systems' capabilities and functionality. The only feature I miss by using the cameras wirelessly is the ability to set motion detection zones within the camera's field of view. Perhaps this is something that can be addressed in a future software release. I received the Arlo Pro 2 with 2 HD Cameras from NETGEAR as part of a test and review program. Despite the limitations of wireless activity zones, I am extremely satisfied with the product. I purchased 2 additional cameras and exterior mounts for greater home security, and based on my experience recommended Arlo to a couple of people who were talking about getting a system over the holidays.

Need security? Look no further! BEST IN CLASS!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.-=First Impressions=- Nice and secure packaging to protect hardware from damage. It white… very white! Not liking that since cameras are NOT supposed to be seen or attention drawn to them. I am sure this can be fixed with some sort of skin… yep, already ordered some. Looking through the box you get two magnetic mounts and NO OUTDOOR MOUNTS. Disappointing… have to shell out more cash. -=Build=- (7/10) Everything is made of plastic. Bright white plastic. This is how these can be made affordably. The cameras have a high gloss finish so they stand out anywhere you put them. The cameras feel light and cheap until you actually put the batteries in them… then they feel like solid cameras. The battery is built extremely well. There isn't any flex in the casing like you find in other cheap rechargeable battery packs. The mounts are plastic with a metal half sphere. I like these mounts for indoor use as they offer multiple angles and flexibility for aiming your cameras. However, these are NOT good for outdoor use since someone can just walk up and snatch your camera. To rectify this, Arlo has included a threaded mounting option for which they do NOT provide. You will need to shell out more money if you want to use these outdoors. Overall, I do not question if these will last. Above average build quality. -=Setup=- (9/10) These cameras were up and running in 10 minutes. If you can install an app on your phone or press a button you have all skills needed to make this work. Mounting where you want them takes the skill of creativity and planning to make sure you are getting the area you want most. All you do is give power to the base, plug the base into your router, and sync the cameras… that easy. The longest part was creating a login for Arlo which took all of 3 minutes. Out of the 10 minutes to get the cameras online, 3 of them you will be making an account unless you already have a Netgear account. If you want to use the Alexa skill, add another minute to setup because you have to link the skill to your Netgear account. -=Things I Love=- +Ease of Use/Setup - this is the fastest camera system I have ever setup. I have use ALL of the other competitors out there. +Arlo App - this app is the best! I can monitor ALL my cameras live if I want to as if I am in front of a security room with screens for each camera. You can have 2way conversations through the app, make camera adjustments, and zoom all in app. +Third Party Integration - the camera seamlessly integrates with Alexa. I love the ability to say Alexa, show me the backyard and I get a full screen (ON TV!) through my FireTV. It works with the Echo Show and Echo Spot well also. It also supports SmartThings, IFTTT, and Strinfigy too. +Free 7 Day Cloud Storage - I don't know of any other company offering a free option for cloud recording. All the others I've tried you have to play at least $3/device. Arlo gives you up to 5 devices on a 7 day plan for free. WINNER! +Battery Life - this battery is rated up to six months. This will all be contingent upon how much recording it does. I like the wired option for high traffic areas +Zones - this allows you to only turn on motion for a certain part of the video feed. If you have a pesky tree near it this will trigger lots of motion +Audio/Motion Triggers - this camera will turn on for sound or motion. Most cameras only will record if you have motion trigger them. +Doubles as Unmonitored Security System - the Arlo system includes a siren that can be triggered automatically if you set the rules to do so. It offers geofencing so if you are away and it detects you are not in your home, you can set rules to sound a siren much like ADT systems with ear piercing decibels. This could make an intruder think you have an alarm and force them to leave. +Secure Offsite Storage and Easy Downloads of Videos - if someone steals or disables your cameras, the recordings don't go with them. You have them stored online and easily accessible to upload or email to someone in the cloud. +Ability to record to USB - you can have a thumb drive plugged into the hub and it can record there for you also. Options if you don't like the cloud for your privacy. -=Things to be Improved=- -Lack of Outdoor Mount - for the price of this system, you should include at least one outdoor mount instead of charging over $20 for one. -Video Quality - you get 1080p but it is still very graining in low light situations. I don't get clear pictures at night but it isn't a wired system so I guess that is to be expected. -Alexa Skill - it would be nice to be able to do other functions besides just showing the feed. Features like 2-way communication and maybe zooming in from the remote or voice commands would be great. Maybe asking battery levels/connection strength of the cameras as well would be useful too. -High Gloss White Exterior - I would like to see other options rather than having a bright white camera as the only one. White is not a great color to conceal a camera and will attract attention of someone who wanted to steal the camera. -=The Verdict=- If you are looking at this, you probably are or have already researched the other names in the game. In my opinion, this is THE BEST system out there. If provides the most options and you can scale it to grow with you. I can foresee this becoming a security system much like Nest is trying to do. I like where this is going, and Netgear is definitely on the right track with providing value not found with its competitors. MUST BUY if you are in the market for wireless cloud recording security systems.
