The Arlo - Pro 2 Security Camera System kit is a great option if you are looking for a high quality security camera system. The cameras work really well and have some very nice features like night vision. There is also a convenient app that lets you view and control the system which really comes in handy. Overall, I am very pleased with this product and I highly recommend it!

    Great cameras crippled by software

Arlo - Pro 2 Security Camera System, 2-Camera Kit, Wire-Free, 1080p, Weather Proof, Indoor/Outdoor - White The Arlo family of products is a case of great hardware held back by a crippled software notification system. First off the hardware is a combination of very nice quality true high definition cameras connected wirelessly to a supplied base station. The base station connects to your internet router and operates separately from your current wireless network. This works very well since the cameras are on all the time but do not add further congestion to your existing network. You pair the camera one at a time to the base station, follow the simple instructions to create an online account and install either the IOS or Android smart phone application. Next you decide where you want to place the cameras. I have mine installed outside and they have proven to be very durable with amazing battery life. The camera kit comes with small single screw half moon metal mounts that the cameras attach to with very strong magnets. They also have screw holes for standard camera mounts but they are not included in the package and for most installs are probably not needed. It is very easy to adjust the camera image while you see the image in realtime with your phone. The HD images are crisp and clear and even work very well in the dark. I recommend you do not point the cameras at a busy street or traffic area as that will greatly impact your battery life. But placed correctly you can expect the batteries to last several months without the need to be recharged. They have been through the cold of winter, heat of summer and many bad weather events. Using the phone or website you can check the batteries and view images in realtime. They really are a marvel of simplicity. For the hardware there is only one thing that I would like changed and that is the USB wired charger connection on the back of each camera. The USB port has a very small opening and although I have a lot of USB cables available only the supplied Arlo cable fits the camera charging port. It’s a minor gripe on an otherwise excellent design. Where the real problem is with the notifications you get when the cameras are informing you they have been triggered. It is just too inconsistent compared to the quality of the devices themselves. I might get email within seconds or I might not get a notice for hours. This is really unacceptable. Also the smartphone notification is a 10 second video clip. That might be enough for some notifications but it might also just barely let you identify what triggered the camera. You can go online and see a library of 10 second clips so the cameras are doing just what they should be. But there being held back by the software. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere to control the recording length with the free service. You can purchase continuous recording as an add on. And there are premier and elite plans for video recording storage up to 100GB with support for 15 cameras. This can be a great do it yourself security camera system but the software notification needs to match the quality of the hardware.

I had been considering getting a set of cameras for a while to monitor what goes on around my house. I had a package stolen from my front porch a couple of years ago, even though I live in a quiet, safe neighborhood. After installing the Arlo app on my phone, Installing these Arlo cameras could not have been much simpler: 1) Connect and hook up the base station to Ethernet and power 2) Install the batteries in the cameras 3) Connect/pair the cameras 4) Mount the cameras I was a little disappointed that the included mounts don't offer 360-degree protection, so I had to purchase a different mount, but once installed, I have no need to make further adjustments. So far, the battery life has been surprisingly good. They have been up for over a week and I haven't had to charge the batteries, yet. I do plan on hard-wiring the power eventually. The app is easy to use and provides alerts when motion is detected on certain cameras as well as records the instance. The response time on the record feature could be better, as the recording doesn't begin until I'm more than half-way down/up my driveway in my car for instance. I wonder if this will improve once they are plugged into power and/or if I install an external hard-drive. Either way, I'm very pleased with the quality of these cameras.

I originally purchased a vuezone system to keep an eye on my dog when I was at work. Now we have an Arlo baby for our baby monitor and Arlo Pro 2's to keep an eye on the dog and the baby (with the nanny) during the day in crystal clear 1080p. I barely ever worry about charging the batteries and I always have a reliable connection to see what's going on at home.

I have the first Arlo wireless with two cameras, and added the Arlo Pro 2 with 2 more cameras. Even though I have slow internet, the Arlo Pro 2 updated the software without a problem. Installation was easy and I can control both bases and all 4 cameras from my login. If you have multiple users on your account, you have to make sure you use the original account to add devices so they can be seen on all accounts. The video quality is much better than the first Arlo at 1080p HD and it shows on the recordings. We use the cameras to monitor our house and shed and to watch for any wildlife. I like the Arlo systems because of how easy they are to install (being wireless) and to recharge. The batteries will go at least 1-2 months before needing to be charged. The phone app is great - allowing you to view recordings and arm/disarm the cameras. I am switching to a non-ethernet internet service (through a phone company) and found out the Arlo bases need to be connected to an Ethernet port so I am trying a powerline adapter. I am hoping this will work. (If not, I will find a way, since they are critical to our household now). Overall, I have been extremely happy with the Arlo systems and will definitely continue using and recommending them.

I was really looking forward to having a chance to review this product, and while it does a good job on some things I fell it’s a tad unfinished. Given its price point and the competition I am not sure this is the best option. Positives: Totally wireless. Initial setup was easy enough but I did have a small issue when trying to create my Arlo account as I already had a Netgear account. 1080P provides very nice daylight video. Sound quality was good enough. Base unit has 2 USB ports for attaching external storage which can be used to record video. Each camera is magnetic so you can simply place on a metal surface to mount. No need for paid cloud storage as long as the free 7 day basic subscription meets your needs. I think there is a 1 gb total space limit but will work with up to 5 cameras. Varying paid subscriptions are available (more cameras, more cloud space, continuous video recording). Base unit has a loud siren that can be activated manually or automatically (can be accessed in the settings once signed in). I didn’t try this so cant speak to how loud it really is. Arlo app is easy enough to navigate in. You can pretty much set everything just as you want it such as activate motion and/or sound recording, turn cloud off, set recording times, send email if motion detected, etc. I used the camera with USB attached with portable battery pack for power and it worked fine. Cable that comes with it is very long – but there is only 1. Same with AC plugin, only 1. You can use your own USB cable but it will have to have a small connector to be able to attach to camera. I found an extra lying around that did work. Negatives Night vision quality could be better and I noticed it emits a glow/light that can be seen at night. I tried using this as a monitor for our grandson and it was bright on his bed. Granted this isn’t how its marketed but wanted to mention. If using attached storage it appears that only one hard drive can be used for recording at a given time with no automatic switching between them. Also due to having to use FAT32 formatting you are limited to 2 Tb maximum per drive. I could only monitor on 1 device at a time. I got around this by creating additional accounts with different emails. I guess from a security standpoint this is a good thing, but a tad irritating in use. You can send invites to join monitoring thru the app. I don’t know if there is a limit. I tried using a camera stand I had lying around and it did screw into the camera. But I could not attach the USB for power as it was blocked. Not sure why stands aren’t included as they are available for purchase on the website. Noticeable video delay more evident when setting up the cameras. Kept signing me out when monitoring.

I was moderately disappointed with the motion detection abilities of the Arlo Pro 2 compared with my previous Arlo Q cameras. The Arlo Pro 2 2-Camera system was very easy to initially set up on our existing Arlo account, where we already had three previous Arlo Q cameras. It's great having all five cameras on one consistent interface. I did set up a local hard drive on the USB port, however it is not immediately clear (from the app, not reading a manual) what the advantage is of doing this over using the free Arlo recording service, or whether I am accessing the recording locally stored or on the remote Arlo service. I placed two Arlo Pro 2 cameras in a window (indoor, for now) where two Arlo Q cameras were, and the results were -- mixed. First, I had to adjust the zone coverage to make sure I was getting full area coverage (the initial zone was limited). However, even after doing that, where the Arlo Q cameras might catch, for example a delivery truck stopping in front of the house, it's not clear that the Arlo Pro 2 would detect that. They barely detected me walking 10 feet in front of the camera (granted, this is through a window with a screen on it, but Arlo Q never had an issue). I am not sure If the camera is trying to be smart in terms of what types of motion it detects, or it is just not as good at detecting motion as the Arlo Q was. I even adjusted motion sensitivity to 100% sensitivity and it still was not doing much better in terms of detecting motion. The "Siren" could be useful if you wanted to set a camera to trigger a sounds on motion detection, and I might find a use for that in the future. Ultimately, I placed the original Arlo Q cameras back where they were, and placed these new Arlo Pro 2 Cameras in areas where motion detection was less critical. It does detect motion, it just does not do it anywhere near as well as the older, less expensive cameras.

WOW...... I already had the Arlo Pro and I added these to my exisiting setup. SUPER easy to sync to my existing system. Love the battery life. I bet I go 6 months between charges on them. The image quality is better than the first version. I set this one outside and the picture is GREAT both during the day and at night. I like you can share their view with other members, so my wife has the app and also can keep an eye on things. The wall mount holders are super strong.... even outside I am not worried about wind or weather affecting them. My only complaint is when opening the app and trying to view a live image... there is a delay in the live image connecting. But it is not long, maybe only a few seconds, I just wish it could sync quicker on the initial opening of the app. I have 4 cameras and can have them all showing live feed at the same time. Also like you get 7 days of free web recording of activity with these. The alarm setups are customizable, for example, you can have motion detected on one camera and tell it to record another camera based on the motion activity from the first one. Pretty slick design and cant say enough about the battery life. WOW.

Best upgrade from the previous versions by far. The 1080p quality is breathtaking, it's so crisp you would never guess its wireless. Only suggestion is the zones, if only there could be more angles to them than just squares. Overall I would definitely recommend this camera for a smart home upgrade for security and awareness.
