We've had a problem with packages being stolen off of our front porch so I wanted to try one of the next-generation home security devices. I positioned one of the cameras over our front entry and the other camera monitors our lower-level living space. The setup of the device was incredibly easy. We connected it to our home network in minutes. Synching the hub base unit with the cameras was also quick and the system was up and running within 10 minutes. We've only had the unit for a short time, but we are checking the app constantly. This Pro unit is an upgrade to previous versions and includes 2-way audio capability. We've actually been able to communicate with a FedEx delivery man. I asked him to place the package behind a pillar to hide it from the street view. It freaked him out a bit to hear a voice, but more people are doing it so he said he's getting used to it. The added benefit in addition to security is knowing what our pets do when we're gone. We find ourselves watching the video of our pets at play while we're gone. This is a great device - We highly recommend it.

The Arlo Pro 2 system delivers what it promises right out of the box. Download the Arlo app and go straight to the easy set up. Follow the instructions as provided, and your cameras can be up and running in just a few minutes. The 1080p cameras are wireless (wired option is available in the kit), giving great flexibility of placement. Also, they are indoor/outdoor; though for the latter, I would suggest it be sheltered. If you use the included magnets for wall mounting, be assured they provide a strong bond. Coverage range and the video/audio capture is very good. If activity is detected, a signal is sent to your phone/tablet. You can then see what the camera is seeing. One caveat, there is a slight delay in the capture time, but not so much it should be a problem. If unneeded, files created by activity captures are easily deleted from history. If a problem is captured, the files can easily be shared. This is a great 2-camera system. If you have a large area or multiple locations you wish to cover, you might consider the Pro 2 4-camera system.

I have to preface this review by first stating that if you use T-Mobile this is NOT the camera for you. The image quality is stunning for a wireless camera the app is easy to use and set up. I really wanted to love this camera but found that when I go from Wifi to cellular I lose the ability to use 2 way audio. After research I found that Arlo can't use IPv6 which is the newest internet protocol used by APPLE and T-Mobile. I contacted Arlo support and they confirmed the known issue, but did not have an estimated fix. Until this is fixed I would hold off on this product as most ISP's will move to the new protocol

These Arlo 2 cameras are very easy to setup, take minimal effort to install, and are really easy to position and work with around the house. I have added surveillance to my house and I love it! The devices look sleek and unimposing, have good quality video, and adequate 2-way communication. I will be getting more cameras to extend the system. One star taken off for the lag time, I can't use it as a quick baby camera... Pros: - In wire-free mode, lasts for a decent amount of time! - Weather proof, and looks nice - Allows event recording to an SD card! Cons: - Heavy lag time, up to 10 seconds in some instances - Some expensive subscription options for long term real time surveillance...

This is my second Arlo camera, having previously used the 720p model. One of my only complaints before was the somewhat lower resolution. While it was plenty clear for most uses, I always wished I had the sharper picture of 1080p. This new Arlo Pro 2 pretty much resolved any issues I had with the older cameras.. giving it the higher resolution video and now built in rechargeable batteries. Like the models before it advantage with the Arlo Pro 2 is that its truely wireless. Many "wireless" cameras connect to your home network wirelessly, but still require to be wired in for power. In a lot of homes, thats just not possible with where you would want to put your cameras. With the Arlo Pro 2 you can put them out on the eves of your home or tucked in the corner by your front door where no power exists. This makes the install and setup one of the easiest of the cameras out there... something I would "recommend to the parents"... but still choose for myself as a techy person.

I currently own a security system but when I saw a chance to try out the Netgear Arlo Pro 2 I simply could not turn down the offer. Netgear is of course famously known for their extensive line of computer networking products of which I have owned and tested a many routers and adapters. With Netgear now producing cameras with their Arlo line, I was excited to test out their quality and capabilities! ***DESIGN*** The Arlo Pro 2 has a very cool sleek appearance that is very competitive with rival camera systems on the market today. I am not a big fan of the white color as it will show dust or stains more easily when installed in an outdoor setting. I prefer my cameras to be black so they are easier to hide from plain sight and dust does not show as easily. They are IP65 certified which provides solid weather resistance. Included base station has a built in 100db security siren and a external hard drive may be attached for recording video storage! ***PERFORMANCE*** Download the Arlo app for your mobile device to access the system's functions from afar including activating the siren or receiving instant alerts. 1080P video quality is a welcome addition. The night vision is very important to me as this is the ideal time during the course of a day when nefarious or suspicious activity is more likely to occur. The Arlo 2's night vision quality is somewhat grainy and not as sharp or clear as I would have hoped. The wireless connection has been pretty solid so far; connection distance is very short so that probably helps a lot with minimal disconnects. Microphone quality could be more sensitive too. Compatible with Amazon Alexa. ***CONCLUSION*** The Arlo 2 is a promising system with a lot of room for improvement. Hopefully this can be accomplished via software and firmware updates. This being the 2nd generation of Arlo one would expect or hope that it would be a improvement over its predecessor; that does not seem to be the case and it can be disappointing considering the overall value that you may or may not be getting here.

Easy to set up. The sync process is straightforward and was successful on the first try. I have 5 cameras, 4 outside, 1 inside. They all synced immediately and work flawlessly. Two things to know. The feature of setting up activity zones is only available if the camera is powered, not when it runs on battery. That could be important. The amazing wide-angle of the cameras catches my neighbors yards. I have the cameras plugged in so I can limit what movement they alert on but if I didn't they'd be buzzing every time my neighbors were in the backyard. The camera only comes with one power cord. You'll need to order the cords and the plugs for them. The magnetic mount is great but doesn't allow for enough camera positioning. I bought the articulating mount which also offers the advantage of screwing into the camera which discourages theft. The picture is awesome, the two-way audio is cool. I would buy these again without hesitation.

Got the 4 camera Pro2 system. The video is great and setup is simple. The downside is the battery in those units with a lot of action go down in a little more than a week. Constantly having to climb up to claim the cameras is a pain. I ordered a couple of Arlo solar panels hoping they would solve the problem. Unfortunately the newer solar systems have to have absolute straight on sunlight. One of the solar panels had some moderate shade over it for part of the day and so it didn’t really keep the battery charged well. When I called Arlo for support, I was frustrated by the lack of English the tech spoke. After 15 minutes of talking about how the solar panel wasn’t doing its job, the tech asked..”so you have a solar panel?” At that point I hung up

Intro The new Arlo Pro 2 now in 1080p, more power source options and it works with Amazon Alexa. The Arlo app, which is available for iOS, Android and Amazon, is pretty simple to use. I like that you can view multiple Arlo cameras on the main screen at the same time. Compared to the Ring which only lets you view one camera at a time. You can take a snapshot of the current view or manually record video. With Amazon devices, like the Echo Show and the latest 10” Fire tablet, you can ask Alexa to show you your cameras. You can set individual detection, notification rules for each camera. 3 power options: wire free with the included rechargeable batteries, AC with the included charger and USB cable and solar power with the optional solar panel ($79). When plugged in to an external power source, it unlocks advanced features like activity zones, CVR, and 3 second look back. 3 second look back records 3 seconds before motion or sound is detected so you can see what caused the detection. When connected to the Arlo solar panel, the Activity Zone feature is disabled when the sun goes down. 7 days of FREE motion detected cloud recordings for up to 5 cameras!! For most of us, I think this is plenty sufficient. If not, you can also subscribe to their premier ($99/yr) or elite ($149) plans. Then there’s the CVR service which records 24/7 non-stop recording. They have 3 options and the cheapest is $99/year/camera for 14 days of 24/7 CVR. With a CVR subscription, you get a timeline view of recordings like the Nest Camera app. Arlo Smart is another optional feature that you can add for $4/month. Per the Arlo Support, you can “configure the system to filter cars and animals and receive alerts only when your camera detects a person. Arlo Smart also reduces unwanted alerts by filtering minor movements within the video capture area, such as swaying branches and rustling leaves.” Setup was fairly simple. The quick start guide was kind of misleading though. It tells you to connect the base station to the internet, power on, get an account then start adding cameras by synching them to the base station. Missing a step in the guide because I had to add the base station as a device first then I was able to add my cameras by synching them to the base station. Pros & Features - 7 days of FREE cloud recordings!! - 1080p FHD live video stream - Works with Alexa - Local backup & CVR available - 3 power source options - IP65 weather resistant - Local backup via a USB flash drive - 2-way audio. Surprisingly loud and clear. Cons - Activity zones are not very customizable. It’s a square or a rectangle. You can’t adjust the points to outline a certain area like you can with Ring and Nest. But then again, with Nest and Ring, it might as well be a square or rectangle because it is not precise either. - The siren is on the base station, not on the camera. So when it goes off, you’re going to hear the loud 100+ decibel siren and not necessarily the intruder or your neighbors. I would suggest putting the base station in your garage. Outro I’ve owned the Arlo, Arlo Pro and now this Arlo Pro 2 and it has resolved all the complaints that I had with the previous two which was mainly the lack of 1080p resolution and continuous recording availability. The difference in resolution between the Pro and Pro 2, especially with night time recordings, is worth the extra cash. I wish this came out before I bought the Nest outdoor cam. This bundle comes with the magnetic mounts but I would suggest getting the outdoor or the security mount if you plan on mounting this in the open. I really like this bundle as my security camera setup. It’s a good starter kit and you can add more to it later if needed.

1080P But Battery and NightVision Concerns!

I was waiting for a 1080p Arlo, and they have finally landed. Netgear finally fixed a few nagging issues, but added a few new ones.Battery Life seems to vary and be much much worse. As well as Nightvision seems to be vastly worse and inconsistent. But overall the Camera is still as great as it used to be with new improved settings and quality.

The Arlo Pro 2 camera system is a good all-around security camera system that was easy to set up and use. The box arrived and was well packed. The quick start guide enabled me to set the system up quickly with a minimal of frustration. The base logged into the internet without issue and cameras synced quickly with the base. I downloaded the app and set up an account to utilize the cloud based recording. There are options you can pick giving more recording times and lengths of retention based on how much you are willing to pay. I stayed with the basic plan. I moved on to setting the cameras up which was where I started encountering some issues. The cameras are truly wireless but in this mode they have limited functionality. They record, motion activate and have IR capabilities, but other functions like zoning the motion activation, times and others tasks require the cameras to be plugged in. The system also does not have a "separate" battery charger; the batteries have to be charged in the camera by taking the camera down and plugging them in. For the price, I would have hoped those accessories would have been supplied. You can buy them separately, but again, I think they should have been supplied with the system. I got the cameras set up and got a strong signal and good picture from both. The motion activation works well and it's sensitivity is set through the app. IR for night also gave good and useful pictures, such as the stray cat that likes to sleep on my porch that I was unaware of... The cameras are not wifi based so your base location is somewhat important relative to where you place the cameras. Your router's location is not important. The app worked well and controlled the cameras well. All in all, this is a very good security camera system that I believe that most people will be satisfied with. The base even has an siren if the cameras sense motion (found by accident by the way..) Had all the accessories needed for all types of setup been included it would have been excellent. Just be aware of where you want to use them and know what additional costs you will incur to enable that functionality. Good Shopping!

1 Step Forward 2 Steps Back

I have the previous Arlo Pro camera set. I was interested in adding in a couple more cameras and wasn't sure if the Arlo Pro 2 cameras were compatible to the Arlo Pro base station. Thankfully they are. Adding on the Arlo Pro 2 cameras to the Arlo Pro base station is easy. Unfortunately, adding on the Arlo Pro 2 cameras do not switch the Arlo Pro 2 cameras to my existing settings. For example, my original Arlo Pro cameras are set to 10 second recordings and out of the box, the Arlo Pro 2 are set for "Record until activity stops (up to 300 sec)" and once you change to record for a fixed length of time, it defaults to 20 seconds. Another example are the rules, my original cameras are set for "Push Notification and Email alert..." but the Arlo Pro 2 cameras are set to "Push Notification..." only. Added features for the Arlo Pro 2 cameras are a resolution bump from 720 to 1080, cloud video recording which constantly records to the cloud instead of recording upon motion detection, more zone recording options, 3 second look back which utilizes the constant video recording to store the 3 seconds prior to the motion trigger. Unfortunately, most of the added features require the cameras to be plugged into power. I don't have power readily available where I've mounted these cameras. I bought these cameras because they were wireless. So to advertise features with requirements that are directly reverse one of the camera's main selling points seems counter-intuitive to me. To add salt to the wound, the system only includes 1 charging cable and 1 wall adapter. The power requirements to charge the battery will prevent the battery from charging unless the correct adapter is used. So it's very difficult to operate both cameras in the set to the advertised features unless you purchase additional adapters. And I can't even find a way to purchase the adapters without purchasing additional batteries. I live in Michigan, where winter temperatures regularly go below freezing. When this happens the Arlo Pro cameras pause charging with a notification on each camera within the mobile App. If I were interested in the added features, I'd have to dismiss the "Charging Paused..." message each time I entered the App. As of right now, because I don't have the cameras plugged in and constantly charging, the Arlo Pro 2 cameras show: "AC power has been disconnected from yhour Arlo device. CVR and Motion Zones are currently unavailable" message. Again, each time I go into the App, I need to dismiss the message in order to manipulate the Arlo Pro 2 cameras. The original Arlo Pro cameras are fine. I'm really hoping a firmware revision will help solve this soon. Size of the Arlo Pro 2 cameras are identical to the previous generation. The Arlo Pro 2 cameras seem to utilize the identical power requirements of the previous generation, but the battery model seems to have been revised slightly. I've interchanged the batteries and did not have any issues. Sadly, some of the weaknesses have been continued to the newest generation. 2-Way audio is still sub-par. The tiny speakers are inadequate. If I'm to ward off a would-be thief with two-way audio, I want my voice to boom with authority. The tiny speaker just won't cut it. Video performance of these cameras vary based on amount of ambient light. On a clear sunny day, you really get the full 1080 experience vs. 720 of the previous generation. In dimmer situations, motion gets very pixelated and video performance compares to 720 resolution. Application connection to the Arlo system is somewhat slow. If I get an alert on my phone about motion detected, it takes me a while to open up the App, sign in to the App, select the camera, and interact with two-way audio. Motion detection sensitivity adjustment in the Android App is very strange. Arlo Pro 2 cameras allow you to change the sensitivity on the fly and save. On the previous generation cameras, you can adjust sensitivity, then you test that sensitivity, but you cannot save the setting. iOS and Web apps allow you to save, but not in the Android App. Overall, I kinda feel like the Arlo Pro series has taken 1 step forward but 2 steps back.

This is an all around good wireless HD security camera system that includes free cloud recording. You are able to use either camera completely wireless or wired, the only advantage to being wired is that it is the only way to set up activity zones or to use the optional continuous recording. When set up to do so it will send you mobile alerts and/or emails of activity that is recorded throughout the day, it also includes the ability to remotely sound the alarm that is built into the base system as a deterrent. This is not a full suite security system, it is a camera system that has the ability to sound an alarm manually. It will not set off an alarm if something moves in one of the zones and it does not have the ability to add any door or window sensors into the system. If you are looking for a replacement security system this is not where you want to look, however if you are looking for a fully capable security camera system with remote management available this is exactly what you want.

The Arlo Pro 2 is a nice upgrade from last years model. The Pro 2 now supports 1080p video capture (up from 720p) and the Pro 2 offers the ability to set alert zones. This way the camera can alert you if someone is walking on your lawn, but now when someone is walking on the sidewalk. They have also added a subscription plan. Rates are from $99 to $299 a year it will store 24/7 recordings from an Arlo camera between 14 and 60 days. If you don't want to pay for a subscription, Netgear will still store the past 7 days of recordings (only triggered when there's motion or sound) for free. The cameras are cordless so you can set them up anywhere in your house or yard. The cameras connect to a base station and the station requires power and internet service. If you want 24/7 recording you will need to plug in the cameras. It is suggested that you keep a battery installed in case of a power failure. Battery life is about 2-3 months and less if you live in an urban setting. Extreme heat and especially cold will greatly reduce battery life too. Battery life also takes another hit since the cameras can now film at 1080p. Installing the cameras is easy you just use the magnetic mounts. The magnetic base lets you easily adjust the camera's view. If you are looking for a more permanent solution a wall mount screw set is included. Unfortunately if you want to plug in the cameras outside you will need to buy a separate Outdoor Power Adapter. You will also have to make sure that the outlet you are plugging the cable into is weather proof as only the connector that plugs into the camera is water proof. Viewing angles on the camera have upgraded to 130 degrees. The cameras can pan and zoom digitally but they don't move like other pan and tilt cameras. The Arlo will zoom into an area with their field of view and give you a more detailed look. At night, you can get about 25 feel of night vision. At night I really couldn't make out a face past 10 feet and during the day it went up to about 30 feet. Audio is now offered in this package. You can two way talk using your smartphone to speak with someone near the camera and they can speak with you too. There is audio streaming too and sound detection. The sound detection is neat since the cameras will send you an email or push alert if a loud sound like breaking glass or crashing objects. You can also set the cameras to record videos based on sound alerts. This is great if you are away on vacation and see that there is a storm in you area. If you receive a sound alert you can send a repair man to check to see if there was any damage. The Arlo detects motion with an analog motion sensor, which unfortunately case more false alarms. Fortunately Arlo uses a PIR motion sensor with adjustable sensitivity. I found that being able to adjust sensitivity helped reduce, but not eliminate false alarms. The sire is loud, really loud. I could hear the alarm two houses over and I was inside the front door of my neighbors. The cameras can also classify motion into categories. You can set it for cars, animals, people and other. With Arlo smart you can choose which categories to be alerted. What I found that really separates the Arlo from other camera security sets in that the cameras offer zones. From the mobile app you can create three rectangular shaped zones and the camera will only monitor activity within the ones while ignoring other events. The cameras also have a 3 second buffer. This allows the Arlo to always be ready and if motion is detected, the camera will record the event and include the three seconds before the event. The app is great, it works on either iOS or Android. It allows for a lot of flexibility by letting you set the Arlo with different modes. You can tell the camera to notify you of motion alerts but not sound alerts or the other way around. You can swap between modes by manually using the app or you can set the cameras to automatically change modes based on a schedule. The app also lets you watch live videos, access video history and change settings of you system. The Arlo also work with other Arlo devices if you are looking to expand. The Arlo will also work with third party devices. If you are using Philips Hue light bulbs and automate your home, you can tell the Philips Hue lights to turn on when the Arlo detects motion. You could also trigger the Arlo to start recording when you August Smart Lock is unlocked. The Arlo also works with the Echo show or fire tv, so you could say Alexa show me the front door and you can see who is at your front door. There is a lot to like about this new Arlo Pro 2. I would highly recommend this is having camera security ranks highly in your needs. Pros The ability to add on other Arlo devices Works with other smart home items such as Philips Hue Light Bulbs Improved cameras to 1080p Backup storage for 7 days Lots of flexible programing for alerts and camera Works from an phone app Very loud siren Cons Price Pay subscription for larger back up but it is cheaper than most subscriptions Buy a weather proof cord if you are going to connect cameras to power source
