Great addition
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ll begin by saying that I already have the original Arlo system so set up of this was a snap just as the original was. With my original system i only had two cameras so it’s nice having the this system to upgrade the old. The Arlo 2 cameras to me seem to show a little better picture and they also tend to go into live mode a bit quicker. I was able to link in with my iPhone and instantly get clips of detected outside motions sent to my email. I enjoy having the ability to see when someone or something comes into view of the motion sensing camera to include the family of raccoons that visited my my back porch the other night. This was a great addition to the cameras I already had installed. It’s a must for anyone wanting to monitor the activity around your home.

Fantastic Images
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was purchased as a replacement for another brand. Set up was very simple and easily completed. I purchased the 4 camera Arlo Pro 2 to ensure adequate coverage of my home. Before installing thre cameras, I set up one camera and placed it on the computer desk. Day and night video with lights on was crystal clear. When we retired for the night, a check of the camera revealed that the night video was also excellent. Placing two cameras in the back, the 130 degree coverage covers my entire back yard. However, once full darkness sets in, the night video distance decreases significantly. The results were similar for the cameras out front, although they will be good enough should anyone approach the house. Unlike my previous system, the number of motion alerts is bearable. I like that I can manage the cameras from either my PC or phone app. The con is s single wall mount is included in the package with 4 additional magnetic/screwed in wall mounts in the package. I also purchased a charger that can handle two batteries are once should the need arise. You can also find after market outside wall mounts for far less than the Netgear mounts. Overall, a great buy.

Works with first gen base, has better options
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was happy to see that the new cameras work well with my first generation Arlo base station and play nice with my other cameras. Image quality on these are much better than the original. The big bonus is that these can either be battery powered like the original Arlo cameras, or can be plugged in. This is great for indoor use! If you've not tried Arlo cameras in the past, they're incredible security cameras that can be mounted anywhere (rain or snow won't harm these little guys!) and run from batteries. You can set up views of every angle of your property without running wires. Monitoring is simple using the mobile app, and the monitoring is free with basic options. Unless you need to record a lot you can do just fine with the free account.

Great security camera system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this system. It was extremely easy to setup. Plugged the base into my router, paired the camera, create an account online and I was good to go. Overall it took me about ten minutes to be up and running. The motion sensor feature is awesome. I get alerts whenever it picks up motion outside. The range is very good so I tend to get alerts when a car passes by. The alarm is extremely loud so it should startle any intruder. The battery life has been great. Running it for three days with the motion detection setting and medium quality video setting and it still shows almost 100%. The magnetic mount is good and suitable for most situations but there is an optional mount available from bestbuy that would work great for those hard to get angles.

awesome entry level security system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.- Setup - incredibly easy, I was up and running in a matter of minutes - Features - If you only use the free subscription, you only get basic features (movement alerts, siren on the base unit, 2 way speaker), for more useful features, you'll have to pay for additional gear and/or join the paid service. i.e. activity zones require you to have a constant power supply ( which means you'll need to get the solar panel for each unit ), and continuous recording you'll need to have constant power supply as well as the paid subscription. - Performance - expect 2-3 seconds delay in live view - Did product meet your expectation? yes - Price-value - very good - Would you recommend to friend or family member? Yes for entry level security system.

unusual use case
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The odd thing to me about this system is the assumption that you'll use the cameras on battery power all the time, then periodically recharge them. This isn't something you're going to mount outside the front door and leave running all the time (although you could if you wanted to locate an outlet or a USB port nearby). However, that also means you don't have to worry about running wires wherever you want to mount or place the cameras, and it gives you the ability to relocate them at will. They also should not be running all the time if you leave them indoors, because you'll get a phone notification every time something moves in front of the camera. There are automatic settings to turn the cameras on and off if you keep a regular schedule, or you can even use geofencing to turn them on and off whenever your phone leaves home or returns. You can also turn them on and off remotely from the mobile app at will. The cameras will sit on any flat surface and are very unobtrusive. There are also very neat magnetic mounts that will allow you to position them at a wide range of angles on a wall. Because the mounts are magnetic, the cameras are easy to remove and reattach for recharging the battery (since you didn't want to run wires). Further reinforcing the idea that these are meant to run off the batteries is the fact that only one charger is included for two cameras. If you wanted to keep them both plugged in, you'll have to get another charger (and the instructions say to only use the USB charger that comes with it, even though it's USB and should be able to get power from a wide range of USB power sources). Altogether a good system, with really good software behind it, but you have to think differently about how you want to use it compared to a traditional camera setup.

Still a great camera system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own both the original Arlo Pro system and now the new Arlo Pro 2 system. So I couldn’t help but compare the two. I even placed a Pro and a Pro 2 side-by-side monitoring our foyer area. I found the Arlo Pro 2’s HD 1080p night vision was definitely sharper than the original Arlo Pro’s 720p night vision. However, the difference is not so discernible during daylight. Also, for a version 2 camera it would have been nice to see a significant increase in the infrared motion detection distance from 23 feet to maybe something like 40 or 50 feet. Other than increasing the Pro 2’s resolution to 1080p and adding an extra 20 degrees to the field of view there doesn’t seem to be much of a reason for the price jump over the Arlo Pro. I mean the new user configurable Motion Detection Activity Zone feature is kind of a disappointment when you find out it’s only available when these supposed wire-free cameras are plugged into an AC power source. That kind of defeats the purpose of being wire-free. With three basic features that work only when when the camera is plugged into AC, can you really still call it a wire-free camera? Don’t get me wrong, I think from the technical standpoint that the Arlo Pro 2 is a great system. I just think that all features should work when wire-free and that the camera system should be sold at the same price as the original Arlo Pro system, not $40-$50 more. Electronic device pricing tends to remain steady or go down as versions and features go up. Otherwise, Netgear will quickly price this very nice camera out of the consumer market. Overall, the Arlo Pro 2 security camera system is a great system that will serve you well whether you’re looking for a reasonably-priced home security system or just a high-end baby monitor.

Excellent Hardware, No Monthly Cloud Storage Fee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Until recently, camera home security systems required a high level of installation skill and costly monitoring fees. The old security companies with their legacy hardware and reliance on the “Hardware for free but a mandatory monthly fee” business model, are facing plenty of competition now from new companies that have the advantage of being able to start with a blank design slate. Arlo (Netgear) is one of those companies and they have a security system with plenty of attractive features. PROS: - Very easy to set up. Plug in the base station and sync the cameras wirelessly via the free app. - Excellent night-vision. - A high capacity, easily replaceable, rechargeable battery in each camera. The battery will last between two weeks (about 500 activations per day) and six months (about 10 activations per day) depending on how many times per day it activates and how long it's set to record at each activation. You get an email alert when any of the batteries are low. - A built in microphone and speaker allow two way conversation between any camera and the app user. - Recorded Video is retained for seven days in the Arlo-Netgear cloud. Longer periods can be retained in their cloud for a fee. Recorded video can also be retained on the user’s network drives. - The video quality is “good” at 720p when camera is in its normal wide-angle mode. The video quality is not as good when the image is zoomed in. - Audio quality is “excellent”. - The base station siren which can be activated remotely with the app, is very loud. - The cameras can be mounted using a mechanically screwed in swivel which make them relatively secure from theft. - The cameras can also be mounted using a magnetic ball and socket which is strong enough to resist any normal wind movement, but allows quick switching of cameras to different locations with no tools if desired (extra magnetic ball mounts for the walls would be required). CONS: - The deeply recessed camera lens is hard to clean if the camera is mounted where rain or sprinkler water gets on it. A replaceable clear flat cover over the lens would help. - Within the coverage of a security camera there are often objects (tree branches, bushes, dog kennels, etc.) in the MIDDLE of the field of view that are known causes of false motion sensor triggering. Some hi-end security system apps allow the user to choose to “grey out” motion sensitivity in these problem center screen areas, so a larger outer visual area can be scanned. The Arlo App only allows the user to crop the outer sides of the scanned area to try to avoid false repeated recordings. This often means that the user has no choice but to put up with many false motion triggerings. The Arlo app theoretically can by upgraded by Netgear when the camera is attached to the home network by Micro USB during charging. Hopefully the Arlo app software will be upgraded in the future to allow more selective elimination of false alarm areas in the middle of the overall viewed area. - The area viewed by the camera can be zoomed in and out by the app. Unfortunately it is a digital zoom rather than a mechanical zoom (for obvious cost reasons). With a maximum resolution of 720p, that means that if the viewing area is zoomed in, there is not enough detail to make out faces or license plate numbers particularly at night. This could be helped by 1080p resolution future camera models or by offering optional secondary lenses to place in front of the main lens to mechanically reduce the field of view on cameras that need it such as ones scanning the front driveway. CONCLUSION: Overall the pros significantly outnumber the cons for this security system. It is at the high cost end, but it’s definitely worth the price for the level of security it allows the Do-It-Yourselfer to install with no monthly fees.

Can't charge both cameras simultanuously
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was pretty excited to get the Arlo Pro 2 but that ended rather quickly. Upon unboxing the system, I noticed that there’s only one charger for both cameras. The cameras are super cool looking and I thought the magnetic mount was ingenious. I hooked up the base station and then synced each camera. This was easy. The cameras are great with good wide angle that doesn’t look distorted. The motion detection emails and notifications are quick. I used the speaker option through the camera and it’s very loud and clear. The mic on the cameras pick up pretty well also. There are certain features that are only available when the camera is plugged into the ac charger. This is again very disappointing as they only supplied one charger. You can’t set up zones for motion detection when they aren’t plugged in. You can’t do the CVR feature without them being plugged in. Some of these require as well to upgrade the subscription and the next level up seemed reasonable for $99/year with 10GB storage. I decide to research getting an additional cable and adapter to be able to have them both plugged in at the same time. I go to the Arlo website and see that you can’t just buy the cable and adapter. In order to get them, you either have to buy an additional battery or an external battery charger, AND you would think getting an additional battery along with a battery charger would be one purchase. This to me is a horrible decision by Netgear. It shows that they obviously want to nickel and dime their customers. To use the external charger, you’re still going to have a camera down unless you buy the additional battery with another cable and adapter. I wish they had thought this through a bit more.

Good upgraded system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been watching this product since it’s debut. The new upgraded system(2.0) adds a rechargeable battery pack and/or a wired solution to the battery woes of the previous model. Set up was easy enough and the smartphone app is intuitive. The cameras have motion or sound activation that initiate cloud recording of 7 days without any additional subscription charges. This is a nice wireless(WiFi)security system that beats the heck out of running wires through my attic. If I had one knock it would be that it doesn’t seem* to integrate into an existing security system; I currently have Vivent. That aside I’m very happy with it and will be shopping for additional cameras soon.

Great product but need more better accessories
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Arlo Pro 2 in Best Buy last Sunday and it took me about 20 min to set up the system and completed the installation for the first cam for my front door. Very easy and convenient, hassle free installation. The only thing I think could be improved is the wall mount. Current Wall mount is still not flexible enough since the length is fixed. I really need the longer wall mount to cover some the specific angle.

Excellent wireless cameras
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I have been testing for almost a month now. I felt 4 stars was adequate becuase of battery unknowns. Indoor with low activity camera batteries will last for a while I figure about 4-5 months. The outdoor camera i figure it drop about 1% a day so should last almost 3 months. However i am not sure how the cold will affect the batteries. May opt to buy charging cords. Price is somewhat high i can get an analog system for same price however the installation would be more involved and now you have a headend dvr or nvr in the mix. Arlo is ridiculously easy to setup and the one week free cloud storage is awesome. Cameras preform well on motion recording I got the 1080p and pictures a very good. The motion alerts to phone are almost instant. I turned off sound recording because of legal reasons When family ask for a camera system for now this is my goto.

Easy setup, great video
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first time using a home video surveillance system. I couldn’t believe how quickly and easily the installation was completed. I had two cameras installed outside and connected to my phone app in less than an hour. The 1080p cameras provide a crisp picture and clear audio. The app provides a slew of options for capturing video and storage of up to a week is free. I’m very happy with the performance of this product.

Good system. Night time use outdoors useless.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For indoor use I recommend this. Set up is easy. Application makes using it simple. For night time outdoor use I have no use for this at all. It is very difficult to find a location where the night vision will work. A porch light in the distance, street light two doors down, lanscaping lights, reflection from a surface near the camera, and you get nothing but a bright light and the rest completely black. It must be as close to total darkness as possible. For my situation night use is terrible. Indoors... awesome. Outdoor in the day... awesome. Outdoor at night... useless. If that suits your needs then I recommend it. The pic I included is an angle I MUST have but the reflection from the limestone ledge (which is gray) goes completely bright and you see nothing in the dark. I am in this pic. I stood beneath this camera waving at it. It caught my motion but you can't see me. I can find no location in my yard where this camera works at night. Also, motion detection does not work through glass so don't plan on looking through your window to see outside. That is true with most systems.

Simple, easy set-up for this home security system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've installed security systems and cameras numerous times, but this Arlo was by far the easiest and fastest system to install. I loved the design with the magnetic sphere that sits to the rear of the camera and connects via the super strong magnet on the mounting cap. The mounting cap takes only one screw to mount the camera almost wherever you want. Then just touch the magnet on the back of the camera to the mount and simply turn the camera in the desired direction and it stays put. The rest of the installation was just as simple; plug and play. Works great on my phone, exceeded my expectations.

Excellent product
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are new to the home defense/security camera scene, then this is a very beginner friendly product. Although this product only comes with two cameras, it is very easy to purchase additional cameras in the future and add them to your existing setup. There are many things that I liked about this system and that's what makes this an excellent product. To begin, the setup process was beyond trivial. The step-by-step guide in the app allows anyone that can follow simple instructions use this product. I was up and going in less than half an hour. Of all the tech products I have tried, this was one of the smoothest setup experience I've ever had. The app was responsive, intuitive, and reliable. I was worried at first, how well a battery powered camera would operate, but I've had this for almost a week now working actively and the battery icon still says it's near full charge. I have no doubt that it would be a slight pain when it comes time to charge, but it seems that will be months away before that happens. As for the app itself, you can activate your wireless cameras any time, anywhere, so long as your internet is working. One of my favorite part of the app is that you set modes for when you want to alarm your camera to detect motion/sound. You're able to set custom modes which allow individual camera behavior. When I saw this capability, I was ecstatic. I wanted a setup that would monitor dection for one camera, but not the other and this app allowed me that pleasure. You are able to set a schedule for your camera to activate certain modes, as well as allow it to auto activate based on your location. If there is one that that disappointed me, it was this exact feature. Imagine how nice it would have been to be able to auto activate your alarm system after it detects that you are no longer in your house. While the app allows you to do such a thing, it is also completely useless. I wanted to be able to leave my house, and have it auto activate. What actually happens, is that your phone gets a notification that "arlo must be connected to the internet for geofencing to work." I get that, but that's why I have a dataplan on my phone. Even after I connect to the wifi at work, I continue to see this notification until I manually enter the app and wait for it to resolve itself out. This completely defeats the purpose to the geofencing mode, and I'm not better off than just alarming the system manually. Overall, all the expected features are there alongside a few extra nice to haves. If the software improves, I have no doubt that this product can beat out its competitors. As it is now, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking to protect their home.

Feature packed security camera system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only had this Arlo camera system for a short time but it is awesome and packed with usability features to help you feel a little safer where ever you place the cameras. The initial set up was a little slow considering it is a plug and play system after downloading the app. It took several minutes to notice any action after I connected the power adapter and Ethernet cable. But once connected it was amazing from the start. The video clarity is amazing and the audio from the small camera is pretty impressive. During the set up you have to choose a cloud recording plan one of which is the Basic free 7 day plan which is suffice although I would have liked to have a hard DVR included. But the cloud systems works just fine for what I use it for. The cameras have a decent battery which allow them to be placed anywhere in range wirelessly or you connect to a power adapter. The nice feature that I like about mounting them is the included powerful magnetic mount. I was very impressed by this mount as you can mount it inside or outdoors with 3 screws and simply place the camera on the globe shaped magnetic mount. It is strong enough to securely hold the camera in place and allows for easy adjustment. I would not recommend using this mount outdoors unless it is placed out of reach because it can be easily stolen. The cameras have a built in mic and speaker system that allow you to listen to and speak to the person or your pet in range of the camera. The mic also allows for sound detection to initiate recording along with motion detection, awesome for if someone notices the camera and attempts to sneak by but makes noise. The high decibel alarm is another great feature that will alert anyone to a unwarranted presence. You can activate the alarm with the simple push of a button on the mobile app. The app itself is fairly user friendly and allows for live view of your cameras. I did notice a bit of lag when I was using my app while I was out and about and tested the mic speaker phone talking to my wife while she was at home. It appeared that I was able to see and hear her during live view in real time, but when I was talking to her, she did not hear me for several seconds after I spoke. Not a major turn off because all of the other features make it worthwhile the purchase. You can snap pictures, share video, save video all from the app. There are so many features packed into this camera system that I could go on forever. If you are looking for a reasonably priced and easy to use/install camera system, this is it. Do not hesitate to get this if you are looking for one. You will not be disappointed.
