These are great easy to install camera’s. The app is good and the free version is more than enough for my needs. I like how you can keep them inside or outside. There are many mounting options and the picture is quite clear. I do not like that there is no live constant recording which for me is the point. When the motion recording starts the person is already halfway actoss the room. The battery life is ok but could be better. The app does a good job of letting you know how much is left. I still in the end like it since there is not another wireless option out yet.

Excellent system both on the camera side and on the back-side with Arlo. However, Arlo's customer service was very poor regarding an ongoing issue we had for about a year. One of our very active outdoor cameras would not stay charged, even when plugged in. Arlo suggested that was could only use their proprietary 6-foot charging cable and adapter (and did not add any useful solution), while we needed about 30-feet worth of cable. After trying and failing with various lengths of 5-volt charging cables, we finally began using the 6-foot cable with a large (6-gauge) extension cable running up to the the camera and have had continuous, uninterrupted camera coverage since.

    New to Security Systems

I have never had a security system with cameras (let alone wireless cameras) for my home. I honestly had no idea what to expect, but I was excited to try these out. Since I had two cameras to work with, I set up one in the backyard at the back gate/detached garage and one on my front door. I ended up having to move the camera at the back gate because I think it was too far from my router to get a good connection. It kept cutting in and out. I moved it to the backdoor and things seem to be working smoother. Set-up was straightforward and the mounts seem very sturdy. Given that these are wireless cameras, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect as far as battery life goes. So far, I haven't been disappointed. The battery does drain faster if you have your cameras in a more high traffic area (because the motion sensors trigger more often). However, the cameras are still going strong and I do feel more secure just knowing that they're there and running. Picture quality during the day is excellent. At night, it's a bit grainier and more difficult to make out images (that's where the review dropped from 5 stars to 4 for me). Speaking as a first time security camera owner, I'm very satisfied with this product and definitely recommend it.

Arlo pro 2 = Too many hassles to deal with

    Posted .

I bought this arlo pro 2 with 6 cameras about a year ago. It is easy to install and the software is kind of easy to use too, when is not frozen. The quality of the picture is pretty good too. The reason(s) of why I would not recommend this arlo system are: 1 The batteries lose charge too fast. Some of them you have to replace them every 3 weeks or so. And I wait to replace the batteries until the charger shows the green light. After a few months of replacing batteries you get frustrated with the extra work. 2 The software is too problematic. It freezes up the whole cell phone. I have uninstalled it and installed it back up like for 3 times already. I think that I got to the point that I hate the software for the extra work and hassles. 3 The sensitivity won't work well. Sometimes it captures movement and sometimes it won't. I tried different settings of sensitivity with unsuccessful results. 4. Additional parts to install it outside etc. will add up substantially to the cost of the system. 5. Sometimes, after you install the new batteries, the system won't read the charge percentage of the battery. Another software issue. 6. The microphone was not working. I found out how to fix it. It was another software issue. From my own/personal experience with this expensive system for the last year or so, this arlo pro system brings with it too many hassles to deal with. I am considering switching to a wired system instead.

    Great DIY home camera system

One of the things that stood out the most is how incredibly easy it is to get this system installed & running. For starters, the rechargeable batteries come fully charged. Simply unbox, download the app & create an account, plug the base unit in to Ethernet & power, then insert batteries in the wireless cameras, press the sync button on the base unit, then on a camera. Repeat for the 2nd camera and you’re in business. The mounting brackets attach to your home via a single screw, and the camera is attached to the mount with a strong magnet. The magnet is strong enough that I’m not worried about the camera falling off if someone slams a neary door. Video clarity is excellent during the day, and very acceptable at night. Motion sensitivity is much better than the original Arlo, which is a blessing and a curse. Something as simple as a flag, tree, or plant blowing in the wind can trigger the recording & alerts. Fortunately, you can adjust the sensitivity, but it takes some trial and error. Once an alert is triggered, recording starts and you can be notified via app and/or email. Some others have mentioned that you can’t turn off email notification, but you can. You have to go into Modes, and edit the settings for Armed, then edit the Rules within. Unlike the original Arlo, which limits to 2 minutes of recording per event, you can set these to record until it stops detecting motion, which is an improvement. The base Arlo cloud recording plan, which is free, will store your recordings for 7 days. This should be plenty of time for most people to log in and review/download recordings they need to keep. You can set the system to arm manually, by schedule, or by geofence, which detects your presence (or lack of) via the app. There are a couple of minor downsides though… I frequently experience ‘buffering’ when reviewing recordings from the Library. I have good internet service at home, so I’m inclined to believe it could be something with the Netgear cloud. Could be wrong, but I rarely have issues streaming other services. If you want to use Activity Zones, which only trigger alerts/recordings when motion is detected in specific portions of the camera view, you have to use an external power supply; Activity Zones are disabled if you’re using the camera’s rechargeable batteries. Overall though, it’s a great DIY system.

Okay, but stick with original Pro

I currently own a couple of Arlo Pro cameras and for the most part I’m happy with them. The way it breaks up video into clips though means not all action is actually recorded and if you’re trying to figure out what pet did a dirty deed, you miss the actual incident being captured. I was excited to see the Pro 2 allowed continuous recording and hence decided to give it a shot. Overall all I can’t really discern that the image quality is any better than the original Pro even though it’s supposed to be a matter of 1080 vs 720. My biggest gripe about the Pro 2 though is the continuous recording, though a nice improvement, it doesn’t offer activity markers in the timeline. So, scrubbing the video timeline, you have no clue when/if something happened and you’d basically have to know what time an incident occurred if you’re going back to look for something. Seems silly and not viewer friendly. The other thing I’ve noticed is an 8-10 second lag when watch the camera live. I suppose this is because it’s pushing at 1080 vs 720, but the lag doesn’t change even if I change the video settings of the camera. In all, I’d say stick with the Pro.

I have the original Arlo cameras. This camera and base are much better! I like the siren option. I like the rechargeable batteries. I like the 1080p. I like the two way audio. I like the adding settings to record until motion ends. I like the fact that i can power them if i want. All around this camera system is a much needed improvement to the original cameras. Setup was easy and the range seems to have improved as well. I could see this being used for a baby monitor, security camera or an addition to an already setup security system.

By far the best of security cameras since it's completely cord free and portable. We often leave home for a day on an overnight stay and want to keep our house under watch because of our three cats. The ability to place the cameras at a strategic locations depending on the situation as well as crisp HD pictures is awesome. We can stream the video via the apps and call our cats via the 2 way microphone is really a nice to have. So far the best system available in the market for home/pet monitoring! A must have for your precious babies.

Was great - recent updates & support terrible

I bought this system November 2018. Setup was simple; really plug and play using the App on my iPhone. I remember having to setup the camera twice since the first attempt stalled out but it wasn't a big deal. Intially we loved this system. Lately, not so much. I'll be buying a Ring because I don't trust Arlo Pro 2 to work anymore. The good: - good picture - fairly good motion pick (and activity zones when you have permanently plugged into power) - charging is simple for me; I rotate my batteries to the plugged in camera so no 1 battery is under more stress and charging is a breeze. - Geofencing (I don't use) - turn off whole system or just certain cameras depending on when I'm home/away. - add your own thumb drive to expand storage (more on that later) The bad: - If camera is not plugged in, it may miss the action (delayed start) - Sometimes it doesn't activate or it records and cuts off clips and misses continuing action (ie doesn't initiate another recording.) -Arlo did firmware updates over the spring/summer that broke my system. 'Base Station offline' because a normal occurrence. The system was useless for 4 months or so. Ultimately they patched an error related to anyone using a thumb drive to expand storage. Again, 4 months to fix so I had cameras that didn't work. - Support is slow and unresponsive; I opened a ticket and they never responded to that ticket. When I did chat a week later to follow up, they tried to create a new ticket (probably to disconnected from the 1 week old 'stale' ticket.) - When I updated status and provided additional info on the new ticket, they never responded again. - Online chat support is not an 'active' chat. They disappear for 10 minutes at a time but try and disconnect with you with 2 minutes elapse while you're typing. Probably talking to a bunch of customers at 1 time. - We had a car break-in right in front of the camera and it never activated during the crime. (the camera was on AC power) This was after they patched the previous issue. The camera did record about 100 cars and dogs and people walking by...and the police investigating the crime 20 minutes later. Arlo didn't work the only time that I needed it in the last 9 months. As I said earlier, getting a Ring to supplement but I can't recommend Arlo until I have a good year without these kinds of issues.

I was so excited to receive this security system in the mail. I took it home to set it up and initially had to charge the batteries for both cameras. They took about a half hour each. I also downloaded the Arlo app. I had to hard wire the receiver to my router and set up the internet connection which only took about a minute. Each camera had to be synced to the receiver - the first camera synced right away but the second one took almost a half hour. Since I did them both the sane way I'm not sure why the second had such issues but eventually it synced. I set up the cameras to cover the front and back doors into my house and turned on the live feed. I was immediately impressed by the field of vision as almost my entire living room was visible from one camera or the other. The app lets me watch the live feed from my cameras from anywhere. You can customize the sensitivity of the cameras so that they detect motion and sound and the app will alert you when something is happening - I get a notification each afternoon that motion is detected when my kids get home from school and I can look in on them to make sure they get in safely. The cameras have built in speakers and microphones so I can also communicate with them if I'm watching in the app. I set up a schedule to have the cameras armed from the time we leave the house to the time that my kids arrive home and any motion or sound that is detected in that time will send me a notification and will also automatically record and save to my library. The alert that can be sounded from within the app is an awful sound! I would imagine it's enough to scare off anyone that managed to make it inside. The mounting option that came with the cameras is really neat for indoors but I definitely wouldn't put these cameras outside. The mounts are put into the wall and have very high strength magnets that the cameras stick to. The magnets are rounded so the camera angles are plentiful but if you were to use them outside the cameras could simply be removed from the magnets. I was a little bummed that I couldn't test the cameras outdoors but I will definitely settle for the interior coverage.

Just purchased this last night and so far, easy set up and great quality, captures sounds great too. Only 4 stars because we've had it less than a day, but so far it seems too good to be true, will wait a few more weeks to give updates. about 30 min. to set up and then another 30 -40 minutes to put up cameras to capture best views. Notifications are really on point but the only draw back is you'd have to have really really good internet speed or there'll be speaker lag/live lags, ours has about a 1-3 second lag depending. So far we are excited about this product.

The arlo camera system is overall very glitchy.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased the Arlo pro 2 camera system a few months ago with 4 cameras and also purchased the subscription plan to have continuous video recording. I would not recommend this product to anyone since I have found that reviewing footage is a pain, it is really hard to scroll through the video footage as it takes for ever to load regardless of internet speed (current speed is 120 Mbps). It keeps jumping back to live mode if you scroll too much and I have found that it skips a few minutes here and there of video footage not recording anything for those minutes. This is unacceptable for a CVR security system. Some days I spend more than an hour trying to review 20 min of footage. There should be a time-lapse feature to review the day similar to competitors. Playing the videos back on the computer is worst than on the IPhone app. Also, three out of 4 of my cameras also have a loud internal noise which makes it hard to listen to conversations in a room. The speaker system is not clear and blocks off the sound after you say something so you can't hear if someone responds to what you said. As far as live mode, the cameras pause or turn off every once in a while saying connection to camera failed. I also added a hard drive to record videos but found out it only works for the short few second videos triggered by motion. Which reminds me that even with the motion sensitivity set to the max setting it still doesn't pick up some movements and when it does it stops recording before the action has finished. I have messaged the Arlo support team and never received a response back. Overall this is a glitchy system that works sometimes but not others. Not something I feel comfortable relying on as my home's security camera.

This security camera system was easy to set up. Download the app on your smartphone. Plug the base into the wall and router. Start the app and follow the directions. Once set up I did have to update the firmware. It does give you three options of recording from a free option And two that cost per year. Each one gives you a little more options. In less than 15mins I was able to watch myself walk across the room, wave and speak. This is a good product stater pack that can grow as your needs grow.

    Need subscription

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The BAD- Just so everyone is aware- u need to sign up for an Arlo Smart subscription if u want ur cameras to differentiate between people & vehicles. Otherwise, u will be inundated w/notifications w/every passing vehicle or headlights. I've even turned the sensitivity down to 50% & it made very little difference. I don't really want to turn it down lower as it would defeat the purpose of having cameras. If u sign up for their extra subscription, however, u have the option of only being notified when a person is near ur home/property. Apparently, it didn't use to be that way but is now. The Arlo app- not very intuitive & unless ur the "master" acct holder, u can't make any changes. Which can be good, but if u have a spouse that also uses the app, only the person that holds the "master" acct can make changes, otherwise, u will need to login with the "master" acct. The "master" acct is determined by who signs up for the app 1st, & they send a link to the other person to give access. Once again, many of the app features will not be available unless u sign up for their paid subscription. Mounting- Arlo cams are secured on a MAGNETIC base. I purchased secure mounts on Amazon to prevent someone from just grabbing my cameras & walking away., Bc if I were a thief, that's what I would do. Not sure why Arlo thought that would be a good idea unless it's a marketing ploy to force customers to purchase their more secure mounts. However, u do have to remove the cams from the mounts for charging. With constant notifications from passing vehicles, u will have to recharge ur cameras about once a month. The GOOD- clear video/pics, night vision, ability to zoom, u can activate a siren in real time if u see someone trying to break in cars/property, & they have a mic that u can talk through as well. There's also some type of internal storage bc mine have been up for about a week & I can view footage from the entire time.

The Arlo Pro 2 is an excellent wireless security camera kit. Setup was easy a straightforward. It took a little bit of time because the base station and cameras needed a firmware update out of the box, but was otherwise painless. Once the cameras are synced up you can place them where you'd like. I placed one in the back of the house and one in the front watching the front door. It is very cool because the app will send a notification to your phone when a camera detects motion. So, if someone is at the door, a delivery is made etc. you will always know. Today I was notified as soon as the UPS guy approached the door and I got to watch my kids get on the bus via the camera. Too cool! The web app for Arlo is great as is the mobile app. You can monitor all the cameras, adjust the cameras and settings, view the cloud library, delete videos, manage your subscription and much more. I have had no issues with the web based or mobile app. The cameras themselves are excellent quality. The video quality is great too. Goes up to 1080P and you can adjust the settings to save battery if you choose. Battery life is awesome too. Have had the cameras up for about 3 days and are at 99%. The Arlo pro 2 comes with a basic FREE video cloud service. You get up to 1gb worth of video history (up to 7 days back). This plan doesn't offer continuous recording as it only records when the camera is activated by a motion sensor. Of course there are other tiers you can pay for so you will have to decide which one is appropriate for you. For us the basic is great. I'm just pleased it comes with a free version. Overall, I don't think I could be happier with this camera system. There are a bunch of accessories available for purchase that can make it even better as well. If you are looking for an excellent, reliable camera security system I highly recommend the Arlo Pro 2!

As an owner/user of Arlo HD, Pro and Pro 2 cameras - the system continues to improve. I just exchanged 2 older cameras (1 HD and 1 Pro) with 2 Pro 2's for a solid improvement to my system. I found them very worth the price and am satisfied with my purchase and the system overall. The new Pro 2's have noticeable higher resolution and better detailed images, if you pay for the video recorder function then there is almost no delay for detection and notification.

The also system is just so great. The unpackaging to the set up was super easy and quick. It's great that it comes with fully charged batteries from the manufacturer. Between connecting to the internet to getting everything connected to the app it probably took me only 10 minutes and I had cameras up and running. Super clear video. The night vision could be a little better because to see clearly you th ave to be close to the camera.

I use these cameras, four total, three for backyard critters and one for the front door, to watch the going ons around my house and for general amusement. I love the feature set, price, the fact that I get free 7 day recording, and the battery life. Dislikes would be sometimes the motion does not trigger fast enough, and if I put the camera in an actual sprinkler path usually it disconnects for some reason. Rain seems to be ok.

This is my first security camera system, so I don't have much to compare the Arlo Pro 2 with but, so far, I'm very impressed. The quick start guide was pretty easy to follow and setup via the app was also simple. Playing around with the app, it seems that the cameras are very customizable and that the app is feature rich. The only thing I don't like is the included mounting option, which consists of a metallic "orb" that you hang on the wall with a single screw. The way it is made, the orb is never really securely attached to the wall. Because of this, trying to adjust the camera for the optimum viewing angle was difficult, owing to the fact that the strong magnet on the back of the camera constantly moved the "orb" around when trying to adjust. Netgear should have included the more secure and stable articulating mounts instead of these "flimsy" orbs. Other than that, though, I'm happy with this system.
