This is the worst product I have ever used. For the price it should work. It is a horrible waste of money, unfortunately it failed while we were on vacation. By the time we got back, the 45days for the return has passed. I wish I could just throw it away. It fails to charge and the manufacturer will not replace it as long as it produces am image. We bought Arlo charges and it worked for awhile, but those quit also. I have 3 out of 5 cameras down. DO NOT buy! I cannot return it. We had to buy an additional camera because one our cameras on our base system failed to charge. We then had to buy Arlo chargers because the cameras on our base system failed to charge using industry standard chargers' they worked for awhile, but those quit also. The manufacturer will not replace the camera as long as it will run on battery power. These cameras are junk! Please DO NOT buy. They will work for awhile, but after the return policy lapses, they will fail.

Arlo used to be owned by Netgear, at which point they were tolerable. In August of 2018 Netgear sold off Arlo as a public company. In older Arlo, Arlo Pro and Arlo 2 systems they were sold with the promise that you could have up to 5 cameras that came with FREE cloud storage for a week's worth of recordings. If you wanted more, there was a subscription service available that would let you add more than 5 cameras, and 30 days worth of cloud storage. Since then the new owners have decided that the no longer wish to honor the original Netgear terms. Slowly over time they began to release crippled firmware updates that didn't offer any new features or fix any old problems. In fact quite the opposite. New firmware versions brought back old problems that had previously been fixed. The quality of the recordings suffered as a result, and Arlo Tech support became nothing more than a bunch of script readers, always blaming the customers for issues that Arlo themselves created. Now with this latest April 2020 firmware update, they have lowered the compression of cloud recordings from 1080, down to less than 400. The result is recordings that are so pixelated that these legacy systems are now useless as security devices. They didn't do this to any of their newer, paid subscription customers. The CEO himself has admitted, in a released statement, that they are moving towards "ending these legacy products". "..“While subscription conversion rates on our legacy business model hovered around 5%, early data indicates that the estimated subscription conversion rates for the new business model is around 50%, five zero and we're expecting a substantially lower churn rate. This order of magnitude increase in subscription attach rates will transform the business as Arlo continues to end of life legacy products that include free storage, and introduces new products that incorporate the new business model..." Buyer beware. These legacy systems are now useless, but still being sold.

Great Product - Support is Poor

The product works well and then this happened: I received an offer on my smart phone from the Arlo App in regards to the Arlo Smart Premier where with a discount code to allow the purchased of the Premier for 12 Months I would get 4 months free. At the time I was just setting up my system and the offer was good until Nov 30th. Unfortunately when this came up I was out and about and didn't write down the promo code. Now a week later I have not been notified of the code again and I thought I would contact support> I was called by a person from Netgear tech support who could barely speak English and has less of an understanding. He thought I was not getting notified of messages from my system. After explaining this to him 4 times he finally came to the conclusion that it was a fishing attempt. I have been in tech support for IBM for 30 plus years and my phone is secure and there is no record of any malicious attempts on my phone. Plus, all the message gave was the promotional deal and a code. No links to anything just told me to use it in my Arlo App. This is not the case with malicious software or Phishing. I told him there was no need to access my computer any more to look at my Arlo app. and disconnected him. He then told me I was a scammer and was hanging up the call. He refused to give me his name and ID number…. This is the kind of support I am expected to get from Netgear/Arlo about a promotional code? Also Several People on their community site mentioned the same thing when this message came out Nov 11th

    Arlo and AC power

Don't think for a second that you can plug your Arlo Pro or Pro 2 into AC power and that it will work, because it won't. I get nothing but error messages or just plain won't work and I have 6 SIX pro 2 units. If you want any of the features of Arlo Pro 2 you have to have AC power and when you do connect to AC power it will error and tell you to use arlo charger. I AM USING ARLO chargers. Junk, don't buy thinking you will connect to AC power. And if you don't connect the battery will drain fast.

During an automatic firmware update, bricked one of my cameras. Of course out of the 1 year warranty. Get an extended warranty to protect. Within two years, one camera bricked along with a battery. No longer purchasing Arlo products.

I purchased this one day ago, already have to take it back. I did the setup, installed it myself and it was working fine. The cameras are very clear, and the sound it can pick up is even more audible than the average person can probably hear. Everything was going fine, but now I suddenly don't receive any notifications at all (the opposite issue I noticed most people have). I did all the troubleshooting possible that is recommended, but the one camera is simply not picking up any motion. I've tested in numerous times, walked out in front of it etc. Nothing. So needless to say, it's very disappointing one day in.

    Very Disappointed in Customer Service

Purchased an Arlo Pro 2 about a month ago - did the free trial for the Home Premium. The first 30 days the system worked so we wanted to continue with the upgrade. Arlo took the money from our account and then dropped the subscription back to Basic. We called customer service and got passed around to 3 different people before being told that someone would have to call us back within 24 hours. We went through this process several times over several days until finally a tech told us that we would have to re-subscribe to the upgrade even though they already took the money. She could not give me someone in billing or tell me for certain that if I did re-subscribe it would fix the problem. Asked to speak to a supervisor only to be told that there was not one available and that they were all in a meeting and would have to call us back, again! The system has difficulty distinguishing between a bug and a person, it requires high speed internet connection (does not work well on rural internet/ DSL), and currently 5 days and multiple reps that cannot fix my issue - still waiting in vain with the hope a supervisor will call us back and that they can solve our problem. Not holding my breath.

The cameras work great as long as your internet provider isn't Zito Media. Zito Media wants $10.00 a month extra for a static IP address to accommodate these cameras.

I bought a 6 camera system in July 2018. Next time I checked online for the price it was 150 less!! Cant believe it!! I always thought best buy gave its customers their best prices. Apparently not!! Called up about it but since it was past the return date they refused to adjust the charge. Next time im shopping at B&H Photography. Much better customer service!! These cameras do not use your home wifi to communicate with the base station. That limits the distance they can be away from the base station. Plus the fees to have upgraded cloud service and upgrade features are ridiculously expensive and per camera, not per base station!! Not happy with either the system or Best Buy. Last time I shop there.

Horrible Night Vision and Blurry Zoom

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this system to replace my Logitech Alert system. Both Cameras are used outside. Installation was a breeze. Daytime picture were great, except when using the digital zoom. Any applied zoom created a blurry picture which made it worthless. Night Vision is absolutely TERRIBLE, the picture was very blotchy and dark. Could not even distinguish whom a known person was. Most crimes happen at night which again makes this a worthless unit. Good Luck, read all reviews before purchasing.

Everyone is writing about how great this product is. Easy setup, easy app, decent quality. But guess what? They don’t last. I invested $600 into this system and a couple of years later one of the cameras will not sync any more. I tried for hours and spent hours with tech support (I have a membership) and we could not fix. One camera down. But they did try to sell me a new Pro 4. No thanks. And, they would not take back the old one. What about the rechargeable battery? Shouldn’t companies take responsibility for recycling their products? Especially when faulty?

Night Vision is poor at best

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I should have purchased the Arlo Pro 1 as others had mentioned as the night vision is clearly better. I hope Netgear listens to these complaints and will consider resolving this with a firmware or software update. The daytime quality is great. I would bump this rating up to a 4.5 star if they could address night vision quality.

Not suitable for business or longer range installs

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Although the product itself appears to be well built and solid, its performance under anything other than straight line of sight communication between the "hub" and camera(s) is dismal at best. Also, even with a high speed (>500mbps) connection speed, there is a substantial lag in real time viewing. Additionally, it would be preferable if the default setting was "live" view; the way it is defaulted is that in order to view a live stream, you have to click on the "play" button. Overall, over priced and ineffective product which may be unsuitable for even the basic installations. Totally unsuitable for any industrial environment.

What's the point of buying security cameras that die after 1 week ,I'm talking all of them do. First 2 charges lasted about a month then total fall off in retaining a charge. Also I never seen anyone be able to identify a person's face off any arlo playback . Also the pay to play subscription Scam is a joke yeah sure you can record 10 seconds for free on a usb drive ,Wow whole 10 seconds for free !! Total junk. ITS 2020, SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A SECURITY CAMERA THAT CAN RECORD A PERSON CLEARLY AND DOESNT CHARGE YOU TO PLAY A MONTHLY FEE TO USE . OH AND NO DELAY !!!
